Hello all,

I am new to the world of you necromancers . I have played EQ on and off for a while and am amazed at the things you can do as a necromancer. I am going to roll up a necromancer here in the next couple of days and am coming here looking for help/advice. I need advice on, what are the advantages/disadvantes to the different races (exp penalties and such)? And are there any hunting guides out there I can see? Any and ALL advice you guys could give me would be so Greatly appreciated.

Thank you tons,

Newbix

Newbix;

Simply peruse the boards and the information will fall into place. There are few people here who will tell you WHAT race is best (which is a good thing). The majority will simpy tell you to play what tickles your fancy. They all more or less even out in the end. Same goes for hunting areas, opinions will vary greatly and it also depends on your play style. Are you looking to move up FAST or take your time and enjoy the lower end game?

Good luck and welcome to the boards

I am looking to lvl up fast and enjoy the game ( I admit I am not much for the lower lvls of the game), also a bit of what is best for end game. A friend of mine is playing a Iksar necro and says the exps penalty is actually pretty noticeable compared to his dark elf magician. I was just hoping that you guys could possibly give me some suggestions supported by your opinions and such. There are so many posts to swim through it would take me forever

Thanks again

There are countless posts on these subjects. I would use the search feature on the site to seek the answers you are looking for. I wont take but a few minutes.

Well only iksar and trolls have a xp penalty.....so you really just have to decide if you think the regen/looks of an iksar is worth it.....I do not think it is after lvling a troll SK including back in the day when they had an additional 50% penalty for being a hybrid.

Also keep in mind that the higher your STARTING INT is, the more mana you will get per lvl...you get decreasing results from items that add INT...your starting int is more important.

notice that I didn't say what race to be...this is a choice that YOU need to make...you will enjoy your character a lot more if you make the decisions about it....anyway............................

Pick a race you like and go for it :D

With the equipment you can buy in the bazzar now a days it really dosen't matter. Just play and enjoy the Game. ;)

I choose to play a Gnome because I Solo alot and wanted to play the best solo class in the game and I also wanted to Tinker

I have also chosen a gnome to play...they are a fun and good natured race, and I like the sense of humor attributed to them! It also is the best starting faction for a necro (I believe) And that means more places to explore at lower levels (as opposed to higher level faction farming)

Pick your own character though...it's your $12/95/month :D

Any non iksar will tell you Iksar regen is overrated. I'm here to tell you it's not...even at 65. The Iksar xp penaly was a bitch in the mid-upper 50's, but now that I'm 65 it's moot (aaxp isn't penalized).

Iksar starting INT being low (85...110 with 25 training points at creation) kinda sucked at low levels, but after 34 (our first good lich spell, Call of Bones), it really didn't make much of a difference. I'm 65 now and have 50ish aa's, and my INT is only 233 with @800 raw mana on various pieces, and I NEVER run low on mana...so what if kiting mob_a takes 40% of my mana bar and 20% of MR. Dark Elf's mana bar. We're regening mana at the same rate and will be full again at the same time...and I'll have more HP left than he does. (23 hp regen, 18 natural, 3 general AA, and 2 GoD AA, when you're FD is damn nice, I tell you. Compare that to what? 13 for non-iksar with all AA? 10 might not seem like all that much difference...but when 3 mobs that double for 600 are camping your FD self, you'll be praying for your health bar to go up up up up.)

Anyway...on top of that, Iksar aren't short (gnomes - hard to target in a crowd), don't run bowlegged (dark elf, looks like a little pansy running), and won't get you laughed at (people actually MAKE non-monk humans?) Though you might be mistaken for a monk alot, depending on your held items. (I have a zheart and a Glowing Black Stone I like to hold when I'm in PoK sometimes...keeps me from being harassed for KEI and shit...even the "Sage" before my name doesn't tip them off I'm not a monk. tee mothafuggin hee.

OOOH, there is one advantage to being a gnome necro...you can make your own Stalking Probes. They're a 5 charge "Eye of Zomm" clicky which are handy as hell for when you're running low on health with no mobs to tap...good for grouphealing if you use the grouptap and mobs your hunting are immunte to Zevfeers.

But me...I'd rather buy my probes in the bazaar than give up having a tail. chicks dig the tail.

Did you read the 'What is the most popular race for a necro?' (http://www.necrotalk.com/index.php?showtopic=744) survey?

I love my choice of erudite, the high INT was a factor in my decision for sure, but I also just chose her because I thought she looked pretty and different from most other necros. I think in the end that is the kind of reasons a lot of people use in choosing their race, and then just find a way to justify it afterwards. Pick what you identify with, and you will be happy.

Well I've just recently booted up the necro again after getting a iksar to 61 and now playing a Dark elf i can tell you that i Much more enjoy the dark elf because lets face it...Iksars leveling bonus is just sooo damn ghey (and yes you DO notice it). Also i like the higher starting int and the fact that im still a "evil race". O and another thing is that now a days with items Iksar regen doesnt really matter to greatly at all...You can stack regen to what +35? and that + base regen on non-iksar/troll classes is still good enough. IMO iksar regen is overkill at higher levels when you get the pizimp regen items anyways. Another drawback to being a DE tho is the fact at lower levels alot of leveling places are either not close and you have to keep running back to neriak and some good leveling spots like CB ( my favorite at low levels) are cut off from you. It all comes down to what you want tho thats just some plus and minuses ive experienced playing both of the Races i mentioned. Good luck to yah. :) .

Woot first post!

I am a DE myself and I love it. Iksar regen is nice of course but it really chews the fun out of the game in higher levels: of course you might be able to pwn stuff with a lot faster regen in the early years but at higher levels it sort of gets phazed (sp.?) out with time, as if you ever need health you have that nifty 1k lifetap (not the one that takes an EE curses to the person who was stupid enough to make that, then a same damage one without a component 1 level higher) and by the time you get a point to need that 1k health you have probably lost about 2 mana per tick less then an iksar. Now considering a FT 2 item costs about 10k I don't think having to spend nearly 1/3rd longer in the "bitch" levels (55-60 in them right now and all I can say to show for it is ARGH) in my opinion is NOT worth it.

Heck if you want to take it in even more perspective the time you could spend farming that you would have spent gaining extra exp as an iksar, you could have made 300-400k which would easily have bought you the extra regen to make up for it + some nifty items on the side. Of course that is just mathematical reasoning however: personally I think iksars look kickass, but I wasn't willing to pay the exp penalty just for a bit more regen.

worn regen is capped at 35/tick...seduction of saryrn is 64 dmg/tick. That alone is enough for alot of people to play iksars.

I like the roleplay aspect in that I can kill anything I want and not worry about faction, anywhere (cept cabilis). There's absolutely no dependency on any other race as an iksar, OT spells...are in cabilis...Echo spells, we're not kos there. Trade skilling, cabilis has TONS of vendors for every tradeskill, and is under populated so there's never a line at a loom, brew barrel, forge etc etc...

We take a hit on newbie armor, there isn't any or it sucks, but we have an ac and regen bonus that makes those levels so easy that we don't really need much (if any) gear. Starting stats, while not great at any one class, we do average out pretty damn good, and our vision is one step below ultra-vision, so we're not blind. Start off with 100 swimming, not a huge deal, but definetly nice..and field of bone is a good newbie zone.

The exp penalty is compensated (atleast somewhat) by the ability to regen faster, yeah people say it's not a big deal, but you get a rez, or fd low health and mana after a fight, or during if you know your gonna die and give up..and the iksar necromancer are going to be in lich form MUCH faster then any other race. (if they don't get a heal), so downtime is much less.

The exp penalty doesn't effect AA exp so after 65 and a little buffer exp(it's not really as hard or as long as it seems) it's a mute subject, and then you have all that racial regen, that stacks with worn regen, bringing you up around 50 per tick with raid attained gear. That's not tough to take.

I've never regretted picking iksar....

I play on Vallon zek and used a Netted Kelp Tunic for a while because, the graphic isnt a robe, just looks like a normal leather top on an iksar. Along with a Chetari Warstaff I look like a regular iksar monk to those dirty dirty light races and they attack, and all of a sudden, dark, poison, asytole, debuff, tap tap, redark, tap, dead dead dead peck (47 dead pecks since last thursday, the little runts had it comin).

Its always fun to fool pecks into thinking yer a helpless monk. Helpless monk who can dark, poison, asytole, debuff, tap tap, redark, tap who has a dual wielding skelly pet.

Iksars for life :D

I'm assuming it's a term from the film "Willow." Peck was the term used to describe the halfling types.
