I'm presently working on the shawl quest. I read the boards, ally's and a couple of other places on information on how this spawn happens. This is basicly what I was told.
1st. make the vapors
2nd. get the quest started
3rd. head to easter wastes over by Kael.
4th. (one form said kill the guards at the bottom of the ramp and squads won't appear) (this didn't work)
5th. have your pet guard on the north side of the ramp, he'll face the way the dwarf appears. (this didn't work just got more death squads)
6. Found where he spawned at neg 6644 pos 4337, (not confirmed)
So does anyone know the trick here? and done it recently? I was kinda told they changed it with GoD (or the last patch) but don't know how you find stuff like this out. Please let me know.

I still haven't finished this quest yet (need to do it soon as I have the Vapors in the bank), but what I was told was that the pet just pointed towards the nearest spawn point... the spawn could be either the Dwarf, or a death squad, it's all random.

I recently did this part of the shawl quest and here's how i did it.
1. Run to kael ramp, summon pet and have it "guard here". It will point to the nearest TRIGGER, which is not necessarily the trigger for the dwarf.
2. Run in the direction the pet is pointed. The dwarf has about a 1 in 10 chance of spawning. Otherwise you get the death squad. DON"T TRY AND FIGHT THESE GUYS. just run back to your pet and let HIM eat the death while you FD. They will despawn about a minute after they eat your pet.
3. Summon a new pet, rinse and repeat till you spawn the little guy.
His spawn point is random, despite what other people have said. When I did mine he spawned on the right side of the ramp. When I did it again a few days later with a friend who was working on it, he spawned on the left.
When you do get him to spawn just hand him the vial and go. If you try and talk to him he will probably despawn (unless your a real fast typer :P ). Found this out the hard way with my friend and we had to do the death squad thing all over again.
Oh, almost forgot. I got 4 death squads before he spawned. I've heard of as many as 14 death squads with some folks before he spawned. Yet another guy I talked to said he got the dwarf on the first try. Guess the real secret is to have a little paitance and A LOT of luck :D . Good luck to ya. Wait till you have to work on the 5th one. 75 silks.... :P

I did this twice recently. I think once before GoD, and once after for an alt. I used the pet method. Summoned him at the top of the ramp. He pointed me in a Northerly direction both times. Got the little dorf first shot both times. Lucky? Maybe. Onto something? /shrug
Worked for me anyhow. Good Luck on yours!

Yeah, did it last night: the pet guard worked as advertised (except when a couple of mobs wandered closer to Kael than the spawn points and the pet targetted those instead). Got two death squads that I FD-ed off (4 giants, light blue at 61), then the Dwaft. For a minute or so I couldn't give him the vial, but then he took it and I got the note to hand in with the third shawl.

Finally finished this, and yeppers the pet tricked worked, only had to do 2 sets of death sqauds. I've started collecting for the 5th shawl, the skill work is done for this one...but still may farm some more crystalline silks and raise my tailoring a little more.
Biles are a long camp, but you can tell the dragons with the bile, they glow in the dark. I camped in the room with the crystalline wurms they were DB, and got exp while waiting on glowing dragons walking through the tunnel.

the 75 threads for Shawl 5 are no treat either...
I got lucky and hooked up with a pally from one of our uberguilds that was levelling himself a shammy bot on his second box and he, my druid, and I AE'd pretty much everything in Velks for a couple of hours. His shammy got all the XP and I got all the threads, velium and silks.
Was a total blast... when was the last time a necro actually USED those AE spells we get.. *giggle*

I would like to add my 2 cp. As for spawning the dwarf, I did the pet trick. However, I mad a hot key with /say...whatever the phrase is you need to tell the dwarf. I went in the direction the pet faces for 2 or 3 steps and hit the hot key. I think I went about 10 feet or so. For the biles, the smallerwurms outside the southern entrance to the cave drop them more often than the wurms inside. And yes, they do glow. Happy hunting...

Use the pet trick ...then face in the direction that the pet is facing and attempt to hand a coin in the direction that the pet is looking. You will get the message "You are to far away to trade with You Stumble (Dwarf) , or You Have Been Ambushed (Death squad).
The reason this works is that there is invisible NPC's that you walk over to trigger these and the pet can see them but you cant.
I got the dwarf message on the first try and I went over to the spot and triggered him.

How long ago did you do this using the coin? I too am working on this part of the quest and had heard that the coin trick does not work anymore.

It was about 2-3 months ago that I used the coin trick with my 65 Beastlord.
I am currently deployed to Haiti so I have not played for a couple months. As far as I know though this still works.

I tried the coing thing last night and got the deathsquad messages twice. Both times the squad spawned but I was able to FD in time. I may have misread your post but it looked to me like you were supposed to get the message and have the mob NOT spawn.
Anyway, third time was a charm and I got the turn-in NPC.
Got the 5 glowing biles this morning so I'm on to the 75 threads!
