Hi, I have heard that with equip its better to get mana items than Int items past 200 int... can someone explain the reason? how much mana you get past 200 per int point and how much int points before 200?

First to answer the actual question...It's not "INT over 200" it's more like "INT over your base INT" where you start taking the penalty. There is no "extra" penalty for over 200. It's just the law of diminishing returns.

I guess the easiest way to explain this is to send you to my magelo profile.
http://www.magelo.com/eq_view_profile.html...466&resize=true (http://www.magelo.com/eq_view_profile.html?num=822466&resize=true)

...now look at the stats to the right of my gear. Note the mana part.

Base Direct Indirect Total
----------------------------------------
MANA 1296 847 1174 3317

BASE ------- Naked Mana (unmodified INT)
DIRECT ---- Mana from the +INT gear
INDIRECT - Mana from the +MANA gear

....
So lets do a little math. And this varies by level, so just keep in mind i'm LVL-54.

Base Mana (1296) / Base INT (110) = 11.78181...
That means I get approximatley 11.8 mana per Base INT.

Direct Mana (847) / Direct INT (138) = 6.13781...
That means I get approximately 6.15 mana per Indirect INT.

----------------
Now the lower the level you are, the less mana you get per INT for both equations, and the ratios will be different, but you are going to stay *near* 1/2 as much mana for Direct INT as you get for Base INT.

What does this mean?

+MANA items are very valuable...at all levels. And if you're considering an item that is a couple more INT over something that's +MANA...just realize that you'll probably be better of with the mana item.

Of course, INT has other important factors. Tradeskills, etc...so don't ignore it...but definately make sure you don't rely on it exclusively.

so if i am getting a new gear item, say it is a choice between say +3 int or +30 mana... the mana one is better because the +3 int item gives only +18 or so mana... i get it thx

btw, where did you get all your no drop gear, it is awesome

only the robe is NO DROP, the rest has been "made" NO DROP by adding the "augmentations" to it. Otherwise it's all tradeable.

And yea, that belt is expensive as hell (65,000pp on my server) but it is SOOOOO damn effective. 25% Bonus Damage on every DoT...which also means 25% better heals on Bond of Death type taps.

Items form Lost Dungeons of Norrath adventures. They can be placed in items you have (i.e. slot 4.. is a weapon.. empty means.. well.. you get the picture).

Boat load of augs out there.. Flowing thought.. regen.. everything..

Additionally.. with the adventure points, you can get gear and spells.. I need 450 more points for a spell at the everfrost camp..

Hope this clears it up a bit Nekro

Uhm, unless I am mistaken the indirect is +int items and the direct is +mana items.

Think about it. +mana is a direct impact on your mana, not an indirect impact.

Commong Sense Logic and Programmer Logic does not always overlap.

The terminology is correct as far as Sony and EQ is concerned.

Yes you do get a penalty post 200.. given that you are 65.. I think you get somwhere in the range of 10 mana per int.. pre 200 then after than it is cut in half. I would do the exact math but magelo is down. Post 200.. I would focus more on straight HP/mana but don't sacrifice too much INT. at higher lvls it is the HP you want most anyway.. HP = mana.. as a rule of thumb .. once you get to 200 don't stop getting more iNT.. but also don't focus on INT. get HP/Mana items..

I look at it this way.. when deciding which item gives more mana.. 5 int roughly 25 mana, and 1 sta = 2.7 HP. so if you have a choice between 5 int 20 HP item
or a 25 mana, 15 HP, 3 sta.. which would you choose? I take the 2nd item cause it = 25 mana and about 23 hp. 3 more hp ;P

question then. why does Magelo have them opposite? All it really does is raise your 6.5 number to say 8.5ish the theory holds true. Just need to make, no pun intended, intelligent purchases when it comes to gear upgrades. I was looking at that on the original post myself then saw the reply then double checked the Modifiers section. Just curious really.
