Hi everyone, I just dinged 10 last night, and after a few more hours I noticed that the exp really slowed down. This may be just me, but I may not get to lvl 11 for a while. I figured this would really be a good time to get new armor and a new weapon, just to help leveling a bit and to upgrade from my cloth armor. Any help would be much appreciated

If you haven't done so, I would consider doing the Newbie Armor Quests. It is an awesome set of armor for those just starting out, and is much better than cloth. One warning though: It can get quite tedious trying to find all of the components, but it is well worth it IMO.

After you get your newbie gear goto sister isle and get some cash by selling what they drop to vendors...you can actually make decent money there at 10-14 and so-so exp

I just dinged 10 last night, and after a few more hours I noticed that the exp really slowed down.

AFAIR you get 2x the XP below level 10 that you get after it for killing the same mob... that was one of the newby changes they made a year or so back, along with eliminating corpse runs.

OTOH there's still an XP bonus for any dungeon zone below level 30, which is one of the reasons why XP is so fast in Paludal Caverns: it has a high XP bonus itself, and the low-level dungeon bonus on top. So if you want to level fast up to 30, stick to dungeons as much as possible.

As for gear, yes, if you're not an Iksar then there should be newby armor quests to do: the Dark Elf quests weren't too bad and the results were pretty nice for the level, I'm not sure about the other races. Iksar, I think, have Kunark-era quests which are harder for less reward.

First, go to PoK and do the quests for the focus items. Most of the items needed can be bought in the Bazaar for less than 10pp. Each focus item will probably cost you less than 50pp and an hour to get.

Focus>HP>Mana>Resists>INT

Same formula all the way to 65.

i suggest hunting in east commonlands for skins (cat and bear) and silk (spider/spiderling). the high quality bear ones sell for quite a sum at bazaar on most server.

Once they are light blue/green got to west commonlands and hunt the upgraded mobs for same loot.

you should end up with a few hundred pp if not a few thousand of pp. depending on your hunting luck and bazaar prices.

this should be enuff to buy you some nice low level items on bazaar (better than the newbie stuff)

You could start by killing skellies - look for the ones holding a shield or a weapon. You can equip the shield in your secondary slot, and many times the weapon they are carrying is better than the one you are using now, so you can switch yours for one you loot. The newbie armor would still be good upgrades to work towards as well.

And defiantely do as Jeb says and head to sister island, it's in the ocean of tears, talk to the gnome on the dock in East Freeport to get him to send you there, you'll land right on the dock of the island you want to be at. If you kill the sisters close to the beach but away from the docks you shouldn't have much trouble with adds and the drops you get are excellent pp if you sell them to vendors.

Vishna there's NOTHING to be ashamed of there. I started out like that, and I'm sure most non-twinked characters did. Not every necro is born with a "silver spoon in their mouth" and most of the best necromancers I know earned every single little thing they had, and continued that upto and past time gear. There's no gimmie's in EQ, find out what type of player you want to be, look up gear that will make that possible, and go out and put yourself in the position to make it reality (in terms of a fictional character in a video game thing). If your given everything in EQ, you won't know how to do for yourself later. Kudos to you for taking the long road...you'll be a better/more skilled necromancer for it in the long run. At 12 goto sister isle and loot purity belts until you can't kite safely anymore due to encumberance sell them in the freeport tunnels to the evil vendors and go back and do it again. You can make 100-200pp a day like that, and really get yourself something decent in not to long. Don't fight the named yet...just "sister of erollisi"

kurns tower isnt so bad either around those 10-17 lvls.. Crushbone groups are often filled with twinks who dont give a rats a** if ya loot up or not.. (pads, belts) sell decently to peeps who are factioning. XP at 12 ish is tough to beat at crushbone as well, but I think everyones advice would be wise to follow, jus find out fer yerself which area you prefer to lvl in. heh, it's refreshin to see a necro startin from scratch.

ps, gratz on your dings.

definitely consider the newbie quests as others have said... you could do them pretty quick at your level... talk to the guy at the top of the necro guild way in the back

most stuff drops in nektulos, except the embalming dust which is easiest to get in north ro off mummies... you may also want to skip the few items that call for deathfist scout scalps, as they are extremely rare drops off the scouts that wander a bit north of the bridge over the river

i was still wearing a lot of newbie stuff in my 40s, and the final task writ of the fallen i held onto for even longer

also remember to save for spells, and be selective when you buy... some spells you'll rarely or never use... buy the dots and taps and pets first

Vishna... I'm currently levelling up a necro on the FV server and she's in the same boat you are, pretty much.

Here is her profile Zilly's gear (http://www.magelo.com/eq_view_profile.html?num=1002927) for you to compare.

Everything she's wearing she's gotten by either questing it or selling silks/pelts/zombie skins in the bazaar to buy the quest pieces or the armour itself. (She found the loam she's wearing in the bazaar for anastounding 3pp for the bracer, 5 for the cloak and 8pp for the sash... she has absolutely no money for her level 12 spells now, but hey... a girl's gotta be well dressed B) )

Do your newbie armour quests. They're an easy way to upgrade from cloth armour and every little bit of HPs and mana helps.

The Writ of the Fallen that was mentioned earlier is an awesome secondary item for as easy as it is to get.

Zilly's mask came from this quest: http://www.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=2203 It says level 30 but if you're brave (and cautious) you can get it now. Zilly did the run at level 9 and I have to admit that it was one of the most intense rushes of adreneline that I've had in the game in a long while.

Pre-Quest Preparation

1) Make sure your divination is maxed for your level, invis is CRUCIAL to live thru this run and if you have to recast it when it drops, you don't want a run of fizzles

2) If you don't have them already, download a set of in-game maps. You're going to be running thru zones with things that could eat you for breakfast, so its important to know where you're going.

3) Print out the EQAtlas maps for Droga and the Inner Sanctum of Droga. The NPC you're looking for in Droga spawns at #3 on the EQAtlas map of the Droga Inner Sanctum.

4) Take the stone to OT and look for Sarnak Blood on a vendor. You only need 1 and it will cost you under 2pp.

Do the PoK part of the quest and then, if possible, see if you can get a SoW for your run from someone in PoK. (If you can't, that's ok, it will just take a little longer)

Take the book down to OT and make sure you have both invis and gate up. Cast Gather Shadows on yourself. Open your OT map and use it to navigate to the Frontier Mountains zone.

Once in FM, use your map to navigate to the Droga entrance.

Once you're in Droga, open up your in-game map and compare your EQAtlas map to it so that you can navigate a path to the NPC.

Warily move thru Droga, watching for safe spots that you can duck back to if you see Gather Shadows fading. I had GS drop twice in Droga with Zilly and managed to not aggro anything and duck into a safe corner to recast it.

When you get to the actual NPC there will be several goblins in the room outside of him. Stand very very close to him, get the book on your cursor and then drop invis and hand it to him. What he will give you will automatically go into your inventory, so just cast gate at that point and give thanks to Innoruuk that you lived thru the run.

Then go back to PoK and finish up the quest and enjoy the mask and the spell haste on it. :D

The quest for her ring is here: http://www.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=2193

You should be able to get the Tiny Rockhopper Eye for yourself in Shadeweaver's Thicket and the Undead Froglok tongue in the Qeynos Sewers. (The EQatlas map of Qeynos Catacombs has the location of the frogloks marked. Despite them dropping undead froglok tongues, they didn't seem to show up on sense the dead for me and there are only 3 in the entire zone (all in a camp together underwater) so knowing where you're going iin the sewers is important.

Zilly watched the bazaar until she found a High Quality Cougar Skin for 5pp and a Cockatrice Beak for 7pp. A vendor will charge 26pp for a cockatrice beak so you're better off in the bazaar looking until you find one cheaply.

Hope this helps you. If you have any questions I'll be happy to try and answer them, since I'm going through the untwinked newbie phase again myself (and loving it) I'm going to head over to Sister Isle this weekend with Zilly, I think and see how it goes. :)

lol, my first character was my ranger and he had mostly leather gear (purchased from vendors  ) until he was over lvl 30. That was when I finally found out about those uber Ivy Etched gear quests. Man, I loved being a newb.

I thought I was the shit when someone stopped me at the orc lift and gave me 2 of those rings with like ac3 and +5 str that drop in Unrest and a crystal fiber from CC. They must of felt sorry for me because I was wearing leather and wasnt a druid. I would of killed for newb quests back then when Velious just came out and I started playing.

So, dont ever be ashamed of what you have. We all started like that. (well, excpet Shadowthorne :P )

I remember "back in the day". Some high level necro (maybe 45?) gave me a green silk drape....I was about level 2. I was SO scared I would die and it would rot. Now you cant give those things away. What fun it was when every turn could wreck your world. Enjoy it!

One thing I've noticed recently in the bazaar is that the LoY robes (some of the lower end ones without the focus effects) can be found very cheaply in the bazaar these days if you watch and wait, since people are skilling up on them and are often desperate to get rid of them.

I found
Robe of Tears
Slot: CHEST
AC: 9
STA: +4 INT: +8 AGI: +2 HP: +10
SV FIRE: +6 SV COLD: +6
WT: 0.0 Size: TINY
Class: NEC WIZ MAG ENC
Race: ALL
Slot 1, type 7: empty

in the bazaar for 20pp for Zilly. A twink would turn their nose up at it in a heartbeat, but its a huge upgrade from the newbie robe.
