I would've asked this on the channel but I'm giving Lineage 2 a spin. :D ..

Anyway, I'm a lvl 53 necro and I've been wondering what would be a good tap (29, 39, 49?) to use at that lvl for any sort of combat tapping?

I'm not sure what you mean by "combat tapping."

Like Bond of Death (80 hp/tick, 720 points total) and Drain Soul (338 hp)?

Or the stat-reducing things like Degeneration?

Bond and Drain Soul until 54. At 54 you get Deflux. Deflux is a mild game-changer. Heals only 310 hp, but takes only 198 mana, and casts in 3 seconds. Every 5.5 seconds you can zot the critter for 300hp.

Deflux being a game-changer hits the nail on the head, Fizzleplink.

I remember prior to getting it thinking in PvP stuff I wasn't bad, but I kept wondering where the awesome necro super-power PvP reputation came from. Then I got Deflux, and I was like 'Ohhhhhhhhhh. NOW I get it.'

I always used the highest tap I had, even Drain Soul with it's long cast time. There are a few very specific times when it might be better to switch to a lower but faster tap, like with a target who has significantly low hitpoints, but mostly it is not worth worrying about. It wasn't until after Deflux that I even though of a tap as damage rather than just a heal. So whatever the health taps couldn't manage was what I used taps to make up for.

And once you get all giddy about Deflux, you still have Touch of Mujaki to look forward to... fuggin YUMMY.

Do you mean lifetap tanking? If you meant that, I'd go with Bond of Death, but I just got Deflux and 54 last night...giddy would be the appropriate word I think. No more thinking to myself, "I'd like to tap off this mob, but I probably wouldn't get it off before it's dead." I'm not sure if Deflux will replace BoD when soloing for me, but I think it will replace it in groups.

I use both. 80/tick + 300 as needed = full health on most mobs.

I have OK gear, but I can zot tank PoD goos and the smaller rats easily. Flies don't to much to me there now.

OH.. "Zot Tank" is what I call lifetap tanking. Every 6 seconds I "zot" them. I think I got it from an old B.C. comic where Grogg gets hit by a lightning bolt.

Really? My gear at 55-58 was pretty much the same as yours and they used to tear me up when they resisted Dooming and caught me (I agro kited there when I was waiting to get into LCY/RCY groups).

What is the secret to toe-to-toe tanking Fizzle? Do you have great defensive stats?

My health drops so quickly when I try to do this! If I get interrupted, I'm dead.

I must have had Brell's own luck lately, which ran out. Last night I couldn't get a spell off to save my life. Literally. Stop, turn, cast, interrupt. Cast, interrupt, now the thing's unhurt and on me. Bleh.

Need to be full mana and nearly so on health by the time you engage. I make sure the dang thing's heavily dotted when it gets to camp (by the bone wall). I don't rely on zot tanking and Boney as my only sources of damage, my mana pool's not big enough.

It's been a matter of Bond (now Vexing) and Deflux, E Bolt and Splurt. The EBolt casts damn near kill me, but I can usually step back and zot my life up again. The goo usually dies just before Splurt runs out.

Warning: Don't try this with the big bugs =( Flies, goos, "feeble" rats. That's it. Even the rats are marginal - they hit real fast. Also look forward to huge downtime after, since we just spent almost all of both our mana pools (the red one and the blue one).

Er, did I mention I was Virtued? Damned if I'll try it when I'm not.

Edit: Expanded & clarified

I have done some tank tapping, its great fun, get hit, take its life!!! but its not an effective use of our mana and power. Though I do it for fun, and say NO WAIT I can TANK IT!! LOL but this is not good to use unless there is not an off tank around or if I happen to be the off tank and just need to hold it off a couple of casts of deflux, the other life taps take too long to cast for tank tapping to be effective unless you can keep a rune up. I do this if mob is on cleric and no ENC to mez it (or I don't have mez in), though I dont' think this will work forever or on all mobs so be selective.

Exactly. It's one of those "I wonder if I can..." moment that ends with one of the following
- Well-earned victory
- Bitter Defeat
- Ranting at the Link Gods.

I've died to too many "I wonder" moments. Guess it comes from picking classes that can actually try those things.

lifetap tanking works great in natimbi with the broken souls ..pull out your rouge pet, pull with shackle of spirit, cast saryns kiss then whichever other dots u like and refill hp with touch of mujak ..enjoy ...easy kills and the occasional piece of nice l00t
