Completing the Coldain Military Wristguard quest in 30-40 mins:

(If you are not familiar with the zones, get maps from eqatlas.com because I'm not going to take the time to give the exact loc's of all these places). To do the quest you need to have at least apprehensive faction to both Giants and Coldain. So the way around faction issues to create a new character that worships Rallos Zek. Contrary to information on some sites, you can completely skip the initial part of the quest dealing with killing wolfs and getting the harness. Follow these steps below and you will have the bracer in under an hour.

Step Number 1: With your Main Character, purchase 3 vendor sold invisible potions (they cost 10pp apiece). If you have the money and don't want the hassle of asking others for SoW, buy a stack of SoW potions as well. Place these potions in your shared bank account. Now run your main character to the Crystal Caverns and log out.

Step Number 2: Create a Halfling Warrior (needs to be a short race) and chose Rallos Zek as your god. Click the PoK book. Go to the soul binder in PoK and bind yourself. Grab your potions out of the bank and head to the Great Divide book.

Step Number 3: You won't have to worry about mobs in Great Divide killing you, so just run over to the Eastern Wastes zone. Once in EW, avoid every mob you see and make your way to the Rygorr Fort. If there are people outside killing the guards, you will be able to zone into Crystal Caverns. If not, gulp an invis potion and zone in.

Step Number 4: Log your Main Character in and start killing every orc you see. It has never taken me more than 10 mins to get a Bottle of Karsin Acid to drop. Once one does drop. Log out, relog the Halfling warrior, loot the bottle, and suicide on the nearest mob you see.

Step Number 5: Once back in PoK, SoW up again and click the Great Divide Book. Head over to Thurgadin and find Erdarf. He is in the bar near the cleric’s guild. Hand him the Bottle of Karsin Acid and you will receive the Gem of Pursuasion. Suicide on the nearest Dwarf.

Step Number 6: Once again re-Sow and click the Great Divide book. Now run over to Kael avoiding every mob you see in the Eastern Wastes. Once in Kael, find the Wolf tamer under the bridge that leads to King Tormax's Throne room. Hand him the Gem of Persuasion you just received from Erdarf. Then re-hand the Giant the Gem he just gave you. That’s right you hand him the gem 2 times. You will now have the Giant Control Harness. Now Suicide on the nearest giant.

Step Number 7: Log your Main character on who is probably still in Crystal Caverns. Gate out to PoK. Click the Great Divide book and run over to the Coldain Mines. Re-log your Halfling warrior, get SoW up and return to the Great Divide. Run to the entrance of the Shadow Wurm caves and click an invis potion. There are some Wurms that still see invis so be careful. Hug the left wall until you see the Shardwurm Broodmother. Go to the back of her cave and let the zone know that you are about to initiate the quest. Hopefully no lamers will attack the Broodmother and ruin the quest for you. Hand her the Giant Control Harness and log your Main Character back on.

Step Number 8: Once your main character is back on. Get your pet and buffs up. After about 4 mins Korf and his companion will spawn just outside the cave. DO NOT ATTACK HIM YET! Just wait for the Broodmother to arrive, which will be about 8-10mins. As soon and the Broodmother arrives She will attack Korf's companion. As soon as this happens. Korf will de-spawn and a new Korf will pop. This Korf will take off running. Hit him with snare, fear, and your pet will do the rest. He is an easy kill. Loot your new Coldain Military Wristguard and enjoy :)

although it can be done solo, if you can pull strings and have access to friends, they make this quest fly by in NO TIME flat. review previous comments/allkhazams guide.

my 2cp i did this:

had a guildy create a troll warr alt. got him potions. got rl druid friend to come with. quickly followed through all steps. the longest parts were getting the acid and waiting on broodmother.

the guildy was back to what he had to do after the brief turn ins, all he needed was my instructions and his in game map of kael.

the druid stuck around to help with korf but my pet just owned him before she could get all of her dots off =) of course i had gotten off splurt, asystoyle, dark soul, and envenomed bolt. pet tanked for a bit got hurt, backed off, rooted, healed pet, back in for final touch. easy moneys =)

friends make it easier always! this is a short quest to so it shouldnt be hard to rope someone up for 30-45 mins

Well this quest is very easy to do once you have the basics down. The first time I attempted the quest I never got the bracer because I thought Korf Brokenhammer spawned outside the Shardwurm caves. Well the caves are actually SE of the Southern entrance to the Shardwurm caves. My biggest mistake during this quest was not taking the advice of the quest author who explicitly instructed to do your research about certain areas, which I found my self doing midquest. Another problem I had when I made my halfing warrior was repeated falls during the trip to Kael where I would be instructing my friends on where to park themselves and BAM! LOADING, PLEASE WAIT... The other thing I noticed was that my Blood of the Wolf Potions didn't last too long on a level 1 Halfling Warrior.

So in addition to this guide, if this is your first time doing the guide I recommend at least 2 SoW Potions, 5 Invis Potions, and 2 Levitate Potions.

Awesome quest and I will be doing this again to help my fellow guild members obtain the Coldain Military Wristguard.

Cheers,
Quez

Would it be better to make a shaman ogre who worshipps Rallos? That way you could PL him/her to level 9 quickly and let them get SoW (not sure what level they get Invis or Lev). However, if you were doing this repeatedly then a gating class with SoW would be better and you wouldn't have to worry about short duration potions.

Just a thought, since I don't know if this HAS to be a warrior. Also, this quest is almost exactly the same as the Kromif Military Leggings if you have someone who needs those. (that one originates with the Coldain if I remember right).

Did it. Easy. Thank You!!!!

The only thing I can say is it did not take the broodmother 8-10 minutes to get to the mines. I barely had time to camp, log and get pet up. With a level 49 necro it was a piece of cake battle. Snare, send in pet, fear and sit down. I think I put one additional dot on it but probably didnt need to.

I am new to the boards, been reading them a while just never posted. Played a ranger to 65 and now the necro is 50. Having a blast with him.

Did this quest tonight. It was a pretty easy fight for a 49 necro. My Darkness wouldn't stick so I had to resort to agro kiting. To slow the little bugger i used Insiduous Retrogression (sp?) and dotted with BoD and Ignite Blood. All the while pet was beating him down from behind. It was over in about 2 min and I got my wristband. All in all, this was a great walk thru for a great focus item :P . Good luck to my fellow necros who are in the process of getting theirs.

I'm pretty sure they nerfed the drop on the Acid. We use to get it within 5 mins. I know, I did it for 4 different characters. Lately, we cleared the dungeon down to the Coldains Town without seeing 1 drop =(. Weird...

I completed this yesterday and the walkthrough worked as it was described.

The Acid dropped in 6 kills.

I did bind myself (57 Necro) at the Coldain mine, so I could just gate from Crystal Cavens to the quest point. The brood mother arrived at the Mines 4 minutes after the hand in. It would have been a close if I had to run there from POK.

Great walkthrough on this quest. Thank you very much. I was able to complete it with my 38 necro and the help of a couple high level friends (who were nice enough to kill Korf for me).

One note though. There is a faction hit with the dwarves for killing Korf. That didn't bother me or my buddies, but I think it's worth noting. If you are getting help to complete the quest, warn your friends that they will take a faction hit.

One great walk through thanks for writing it up. I was able to get my druid and a friends necro this in two days time. Of course I had been told the reset was 24 hours but this was rumor. Now I just need to get my necro up high enough to do this for him to. This had to be the easiest I have ever seen it done.

Just so you know if you have a level 20+ enchanter (as most of us do) the illusion:ogre can be used to fool the frost giants. The storm giants will still con threateningly sadly but if you benevelence the first one you see (they have a very small aggro range) he will become dubious too, and this is a great help as you will be able to gate to pok instead of suiciding, sow will last longer, you can invis and levitate yourself instead of using pots, and you can actually kill the rygorrs/genoids for exp.

Anyone who hasn't done this - should. It is easy and fun.. my info to add to the pool..

If they did indeed "nerf" the Karsin Acid took me little over an hour to get last night, but I picked up anough velium to make up for it (sold 1100 of it so far in the 'zaar).

When switching between characters remember the little guy isn't uber. I fell 3 or 4 times thinking it wouldn't be an issue.. hence someones suggestion of levitation potions.

I did find one Wurm that saw invis but upon avoiding him found the Broodmother. You don't have to worry about any lamers killing her. A few friends and I where in her cave looking for a spell drop and decided we would pick on her. Well after 10 mins of casting and attacking her her HP's still hadn't dropped off from 100% and when you stop fighting her she doesn't continue. So she has a "bizillion" hp's and she doesn't take aggro or give it. So when she crosses the zone - she don't care. :D

So now I am going to attempt the "marketing" of such an item by getting the required giant control harness and selling the loot option.. will let you know how that goes.

Anyone been trying this since all the problems with GoD/Collision system, etc? I managed to do it once, but I have yet to be able to get my little guy back into the Broodmother room for a second shot.

It seems like a LOT of the wurms see thru invis now. On top of that, with the collision system messed up, about 6 wurms "pop" on top of me, still embedded in a wall. I've tried to 2-box this, using my 51 necro to fear the wurms outta the way. All I've managed to do is kill my necro repeatedly. The wurms pop, I take 7 or 8 DDs from them in about 1-2 seconds. My necro doesn't last long :(

Anyhow, anybody try recently?

I tried this today . Everything worked great until I turned the Harness in to the Broodmomma . I logged my little guy out and logged on my main . I waited . 3 minutes later , Korf and a buddy spawned . 10 minutes go by , No Broodmomma , and the 2 dwarves despawn . Any idea what happened ? Im thinking that thanks to this screwed up collison crap , Broodmomma got caught up in a wall . Is this possible ?

What probably happened is someone just finished the quest before you got there. Happened to me when I was doing mine. I heard that there was a reset time on the quest but I don't know what it is. I tried it again the next night (after getting another collar...what a pain :P ) and it worked great.

I did this one last nigth, All was going great until I got to the cave and started looking for the broodmother. She was not in her usual home, so I logged my Bard to track her down.....She was stuck in the rocks(left of entrance to cave).

I tried everything to get her unstuck  FD---send pet, call back pet to have her follow agro, attacked with bard to see if I could pull her out too.

Finally I got a friend to attack and hold her out(you could not target or see her unless in melee) did the turn in while she was attcking friend :D

Korf or what ever his name is was aslo stuck in a similar way in his cave area...

Anyway, after the turn in, the broodmother popped out of the rock and started her walk to the other cave for the kill :P Plan on gathering up the stuff to have a GM Pooter make me a Ceramic Shackle of Torment next ......

I have to thank you immensely for this quest. I am using it to outfit my guildmates and friends with it. It works itself out very fast. I must say though I am going to have to start a betting parlor. Sneaking into wurm cave without the elder shadowurms noticing you can be somewhat daunting. People get a kick outta watching a halfling warrior tiptoe his ass in to the broodmother.

Completed this last night, and it went off without a hitch. At lvl 51, Korf was a cake walk - so easy infact that I am sure this would be doable 44+ (ie. dooming and fear, then just dot him for a bit and then no more Korf).

Took me a little while with running around, but I was surprised at how little trouble I had getting my little halfling alive to his destinations. I did end up using 7 cloudy potions though and get a temp for the run through cc.

Thanks for the fun quest, as I don't do many, but for a Necro, this focus effect is really valuable.
Did the quest today. If you have a 2-box setup you can do as I did, and buff and assist the lowbie halfling warrior as needed. I took my time, preferring to return to locations running, rather than suicide-porting. My Druid alt did the buffing, lev, and invising during the quest, and also did the killing in CC, for the acid bottle to be looted by the halfling. Only needed my Necro for the final kill at the mines, and some exploring that almost ended badly, more about that later.
Found it very interesting to be running about freely in Kael, the little halfling warrior exploring without being attacked. Levitate is nice to use in many portions of the quest, since the halfling can be slowed down and sometimes stuck oeherwise.
The Halfling's only death came getting to the broodmother for the turn-in. Halfling got nuked by some unseen mob. (My Necro went in looking for Broodmother location, and also got attacked, losing 1.5K HP to a series of melee and nuke attacks, but was able to run to safety, thanks to SoW and Virtue. Have no idea how, but must have been a see-invis mob in the caves that I overlooked.) Of course, for a level 2 Halfling, discovery means instant death. So I thought it was time for another run or more. Fortunately I got a big break. Someone was killing in the shardwurm caves and saw him die. They were kind enough to drag him to a spot near the turn-in location, and rezzed him in. (Ideal situation would be to follow a group that is clearing the wurms for the turn-in.)
The turn-in starts the Broodmother lumbered off for the mines.
At this time my Necro was parked just outside the Coldain mines. Korf spawns to the right of the entrance to the mines (-3000, -6200, estimate from map), along with another dwarf. When the Broodmother reaches these mobs, it seems almost immediately that a respawned Korf takes off running South, so be ready to attack when he runs.
This was an easy battle for a 59 necro, of course. Korf died near the Broodmother, after being feared, dotted, and petted to death. Here is something that I didn't expect, the Broodmother aggroed me when I approached to loot, and I was taking some nukes when I was looting the wristguard. I wasn't going to let the wristguard rot, and she wasn't moving from the spot, so I went ahead and looted. Fortunately the nukes were not that strong, and she did not pursue me after I grabbed the wristguard and ran.

OK, huge thanks to Umbrello, Bobyab and Archerphate (those maps were a godsend!), completed this last night. My dots are now taking mobs down a lot faster. :D

Finished this last night, everything worked as advertised. Got the acid off the third orc I killed. B) Only slight hiccup was that the broodmother wasn't up when I got my little halfling to the cave. :( Logged out, when I checked back the next day, there she was! (apparently a three hour re-spawn?) Did my hand-in, logged main and toasted Korf. :)

Took about 5 minutes for the broodmother to reach Korf, not the 10-12 some have said. /shrug Just be ready. Easy kill for 53 necro.

Thanks again all!

Thanks to everyone for all the info. It made this quest almost as simple as the SHII mask and MPII ring quests. Do you think someone on the first page could put the info that archerphate made with his maps into their posts. obviosuly giving archerphate his praise for a great job.

EDIT: I wanted to add I was a 48 necro and solo'd Korf with ease. Everything I hit him with stuck the first time, although he did have a whole lot of HP.. but was an easy kill.

From the time I gave the broodmother the harness, to the time i got my necro logged in, I still had about 5-6 minutes before the broodmother came, I was beginning to think something had happened to her on the way.

If you have a slow computer, it would be best to try and get a friend to help you out by creating the halfling and do that leg work.. maybe throw him a 100pp or so for his work.

How did you get your halfling to the cave?

I tried numerous times (with a backpack full of cloudy potions) but there is one wurm in the cave that sees through it. Got killed every single time. Bah. I guess I have to wait for a group hunting and clearing caves.

By the way, those maps are GREAT. I wish I had them before I run through Kael like madman looking for wolf tamer :)

Jasred

I found it easiest if you go through the south entrance of the cave.. you can time it where you wouldnt even need the cloudy.. the ancients will all see through, and i think some of the elders will.. and the 2 guardians (i think thats there names) right next to the broodmother will see through as well.. so stay in the very middle when goingi nthere.

I went through the south entrance and stuck to the wall, as advised. Right past the two gaurdians, nothing saw through invis.

For those of you on the Firiona Vie server, you may have trouble finding the bottle of acid, because of the trivial loot code.

All you need to do is get one friend to join you in a raid. They don't even have to be in the same zone. This takes care of the TLC and should allow you to get the Bottle of Karsin Acid.

I am dumb... dont' be dumb like me. Did everything up to the hand broodmother part. Of course necros dont have track...so if you don't know where broodmother paths to you just about have 5 minutes to find out until the dorf spawns...she paths to the southeastern caves in GD! Just did the quest this morning and was running cave to cave...i'm so dumb. The last one i checked happened to be the right on...I saw broodmother in the distance and she popped lol. Oh well...quest takes about 1 hour to do and it's hella well worth it. I would still do it if it took 5 hours.

BTW: SOME SHARDWURMS SEE THROUGH INVIS...con the first. It's random if they do, if they don't then you are lucky...if they do you have to try to bypass them. Lol, half the time you can just go up the wall and sneak past the ones that see through invis. Half the time they will bite you though...i'm not sure why. I have sneaked past the see invis ones half the time...the other times I got my ass handed to me.

I just did this late last night (so, technically, very early this morning ;) ) using a combination of Archerplate's editted maps and Umbrello's posted instructions. Everything went off without a hitch, and every single step worked as advertised. A couple of notes, however:

1) The Karsin Acid took an hour and a half of solid killing to drop...not ten minutes. Perhaps the drop rate on this has been nerfed? Well, even if it has, it's still ridiculously easy to get. 49th pet (Invoke Death) positively rapes those orcs. Just keep at it, and it will drop. Just make sure that your little halfling has a clear run to the corpse once you camp, or be prepared to consume one of your cloudy potions. ^_^

2) The run through Eastern Wastes netted me a few deaths from dervishes I never saw. Be EXTREMELY careful.

3) Korf is ridiculously easy for a named mob: I had just dinged 49 earlier in the evening, but I'm certain I could have killed him at 44, or maybe even 39 (though it would have taken a while). Cascading Darkness (yes, I use this instead of Dooming...sue me) stuck first time, then Asystole, pet, fear, and one nuke from Insidious Retrogression = one dead dwarf in under a minute.

4) The broodmother stuck around for a while after Korf's untimely demise. She conned yellow to me at 49, and was indifferent. I was extremely tempted to attempt a kill, but I decided not to tempt fate.

5) Some shardwurms do indeed see invisible, but it's easy to duck and dodge around them if you're quick on your feet. Enter from the North side of the tunnel (river entrance), and take your first left. It's almost too easy to get to her lair. Position your halfling behind her (seemed to be no collision issues as some have reported...there's a big, sweeping area behind her), hand her the harness, and off she goes.

6) Only took around five minutes for broodmother to show up, and less than two for Korf and associate to spawn.

7) Once you have the Karsin Acid, no matter how long you take or how many mistakes you make, it is utterly impossible to permanently mess up the quest until the very final point: the Broodmother's walk down to the Coldain mines. She gets there faster than you think: be ready, or be prepared to start over.

8) Good luck, and a hearty thanks to Umbrello and others for this excellent information. Now I only need a much-harder-to-obtain AE III or IV focus item to replace my recently obsolete Chipped Bone Braclet. (http://www.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=809) I wish there was a quest as easy to pull off as this one was for that. :(

hey, delete this message if this question was asked before (im too lazy to read through all the pages). Could one just slash his way thru Kael Drakkel and mezz the wolf trainer to hand in the jewel? Ive noticed most giants cant be mezzd but can be made pets.

Just got mine :-) Nice, I wish I've done this earlier.

Had to do it twice. First time, gave broodmother a harness, logged in my main - and there was Korf's buddy and no Korf. Broodmother came over, promptly killed Korf's friend - and nothing happened. After a while, she left. I figured that maybe someone did the quest before me?

Second time, it went fast. Acid dropped of the first mob - lucky me - and everything went smoothly. Korf and his buddy were waiting, broodmama came over in about 5 minutes and creamed him, I took care of Korf himself. He was db to lvl 58, I had pet up, dotted him - easy kill. Hehe, make sure you darkness him when he takes off - the little guy is running fast :-)

Thanks again to Umbrello and others for maps and instructions.

Just finished this a few minutes ago, and here are my thoughts to add -

I got the acid from an orc at the bottom of the main shaft in CC after less than an hour working my way down.

On the halfer mule, I put a Barbed Ringmail Tunic and some other cheap HP gear on him, and simply bounced my way down to the bottom of the shaft past all those re-spawning orcs with little damage.

I went in the south end of the caves as well, to the Broodmother after dying to an Ancient Shardwurm parked at the north end 2 times in a row. I conned both Guardians in front of the BM, and one saw thru invis, the other didn't. run close to the one that doesn't ;)

I parked my pet several hundred units south of Korf and told my pet to attack when he respawned. My pet slowed him down enough to get off a snare and all my DoTs and fear with out a single problem.

Lastly - remember for coords it's N/S, E/W -- thus the true LOC is -6200, -3000 - not trying to nit-pick, just FYI ;)

Big thanks to Umbrello and all others that contributed to this idiot proof guide - It was fun and rewarding, even with a spoiler. Thank you all for the info.
