Okay Gearing up now that i bought my 65 pet and I am still using gatorscale sleeves. level 64 necro not more than 6 hours away from 65 and gatorscale.... Embarassing is all i can say.
Anyway, i was scoping prices out waiting for the vendor that had my pet spell at a resonable price and saw the Ornate Silk arms for 35k. (This is a good deal on Luclin). So i pull up allakahzam and see its Mana preservation IV. The gloves also have some kind of mana preservation, AND i have ceramic gavel of justice to help with the aflliction IV that cuts the cost down on our stuff.
The question is which one of these three items will work the best, will any of them stack? I know the gloves and the sleeves wont, but are the gloves better than the sleeves or sleeves better than gloves. I would hate to waste 50k on gloves with decent stats, when the ones that i have are simlar just lack the focus effect.
Any help would be greatly appricated.

Ornate Sleeves are MPIV (10% mana savings on everything)

Ornate Gloves is Neurocus (20% mana savings on spell: Neurotoxin, lvl 61)

Gavel is Affliction Efficiency IV (25% mana savings on dots)

So the break down:

Assuming you have all 3. If you cast Neurotoxin you save 20% mana, if you cast Horror you save 25% mana, and if you cast your lifetap DD you save 10% mana.

Each has a purpose and is more or less valuable depending on what you do as a necro. Having all 3 will guarrantee that you save atleast 10% mana on everything you cast, but say you solo primarily and basically all you do is cast DOTs - you would see little benefit from the Ornate Sleeves if you already had the Gavel. On the other hand in a group if all you ever casted was Neurotoxin, there would be little point to get the Gavel or the Sleeves.

It really depends on what you do most - I personnally am a foci junkie, so I am planning to have them all in one way or another. 'cept for Reagent Conservation of course.

Why not have your cake and eat it too?

I agree with gnomicon.. I too am a foci junkie and difference is night and day without focis and with them. One thing you are missing from your list and is a personal favorite of mine is spell speed enhancers... agro kiting mobs that run a sow speed by the time they get in range.... you almost don't have enough time to snare. Entended range will help with this as well but don't forget these things.

having that Natimbi mob charging at ya at sow speed getting that snare to land before he sticks his beastie paw up your butt is priceless.

ceramic sword of war is a cheap extended range IV item...

saw it for 7k on stromm

moonstone ring extended range II can be bought for about 200pp or so...

Me being a speed freak keep those old spell haste II items around even in my 60's cause of the min cast time on haste II items is a full second lower than anything higher.

I swapped out my ornate sleeves because I was buying the AE4 tribute and got sleeves with better stats (but no foci) and I have to say I definitely noticed the difference when I grouped... taps, mind wrack, zefeer's, pet haste, pet himself... none of those spells are covered under AE4.

The gloves have always been sort of candy for me... I have decent gloves already and don't find myself casting neurotoxin enough to warrent buying ornate gloves for a foci that works on exactly one spell in my spell book.

But that's just me... YMMV.

The answer is that you should get both the sleeves and the gloves and keep using your gavel.

To me the gloves are great for LDoN's and on Raids. Also once your mana pool is up there, if you have these gloves you'll use Neurotoxin all the time. Its a good spell once you can drop the mana on it.

The gavel is awesome when kiting but the lack of stats sucks. The sleeves are a pretty decent item even without the focus so getting 10% off all the non-dots is a nice bonus.
