After scanning through the guides here (all 6 pages or so), I thought I'd write a quick article on another good mid-level spot.

Zone:
Jaggedpine

Route from PoK:
Qeynos Book -> Qeynos Hills -> Surefall Glade -> Jaggedpine

Alternate Route:
Qeynos Book -> Qeynos Hills -> Blackburrow -> Jaggedpine

Alternate Route:
DRU port into Surefall -> Jaggedpine

Target Mob(s):
A Cave Basilisk 30 - 33 Monster (non-aggro)
A Cave Basilisk Genitor 33 - 40 Monster (aggro)

Camp Locale:
First intersection of the tunnels at #7 (http://www.eqatlas.com/jaggedpineforestmap.html).

http://artesian.homeip.net/images/olinks/jpfbascamp.jpg

Benefits:
* Fairly amazing XP for the levels.
* ROG poison component drops.
* Words and rune drops.
* Basilisk Egg drops (reportedly makes 15 clump of dough per egg, by EQ Traders (http://www.eqtraders.com)). Five nights and 7 levels netted me over 150 eggs. Also found those same eggs for sale in the bazaar for 10p a pop on PC vendors.
* Bank and vendors in the zone, for non-evils. (Ie, apply this zone to your alts, et al =)).
* Few, if any, people ever in the zone.

Notes:
* Evil races/religions will need invis, mainly through Surefall and the zone in area at JPF.

* The EQBeastiary (http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?zone=157) lists the genitors with a level range of 33-40. However, the highest I encountered was L35 in 5 nights of leveling there.

* The genitors have an extremely low aggro radius. So low, in fact, that I've pulled mobs (almost) right over them and got no adds.

* I experimented throughout the level range indicated by both a ) soloing the spot with self-buffs only, b ) tested with a bot cleric handy, and c ) mage pet toys. I had no issues when soloing, self-buffed. The MAG toys and/or healer combo really made pulls super-fast and non-stop. I would have had more down time without the bot/healer, but not much.

Plan of Attack:
Setup camp at the intersection of the caves (shown as point C on the map above). Pull the mobs, starting with the ones guarding the individual cave sections first. Pull the remaining mobs as you see fit.

If you attempt this area at L29, you may want to bring a partner or partners as you will see quite a few reds pop off and on. At L35, the highest I had was an even con. At L36, so far all blues and easy as pie kills.

My experiences:
L29-30 gnome - each kill resulted in 1 to 1.5 blue a kill.
L31-32 gnome - each kill resulted in .75 to 1.25 blue per kill.
L33-34 gnome - about 1.5-2 blue per round (5-6 kills).
L35-36 gnome - about 1-1.5 blue per round (5-6 kills).
**Figures are a close approximate and given as rough reference for the ranges indicated. I will say for certain that at L29, 1 to 1.5 blue a pop was common.

I easily got a level every hour and a half at the lower end of the given level range. At the higher end, I was levelling every hour to hour and 15 minutes, as timed by a non-extended Temperance cast on the spot - Ie, no PoK run down, etc.

Respawn time is fast, on the order of about 5-6 mins per mob. If you can kill a mob every minute to minute and a half, you can kill nearly all of them and restart the cycle with no down time. Even at 36, the longest I've waited on a pop was 10-15 seconds - literally.

The basilisks, if tanked straight up, repeatedly cast a stun. It's best to fight them with a damage shield up (on you or pet) or fear kite them. Aggro kiting is possible as there is plenty of room to maneuver.

The highest hits I saw was on the order of double 70's. The few times I took aggro and got hit/stunned, there was never a threat of me dying. That is, even while getting munched on for 5-10 seconds, maybe more, the most HP they ever took was 15-20% with self buffs only (tested with temperance and self buffs). They have about 1000-1500 HP depending on their level.

Resists were random at best and not bad at all. Rarely was I ever resisted twice in a row.

Give it a shot... I think many will find it to their liking.

Take care and best regards,

Haettan

Excellent Guide. Very well written. It mirrors my experiences in JPF almost exactly. I came here at 39 and am now 41. The Basilisks and Basilisk Genitors are DB and still giving me 1% per kill. 100 Eggs later I'm still here, although I'm thinking of moving on just for a change of pace. I used Aggro Kiting until 40 and from now on I'm going to practice my Fear Kiting Skills as long as its a viable tactic. Might go try the Gnolls at 42.

There are actually many more basilisk in that cave area. The ones shown on the map are simply the ones I had time to pull before respawns started.

Guessing... I'd say the area would support 2-3 camps of soloers or maybe 2 groups.

Ya, at 44, you might see a lot of light blues and/or greens... enough that it might not be worth your time.

Just for kicks, I duo-d this spot with my 56 NEC and (at the time) 37 MAG. With the Minion of Shadows pet and focused 34 MAG fire pet I could clear 3 of the 4 cave sections before respawns started. Had I been a little more aggressive, I could have probably, barely, cleared all 4 sections.

Of course, the NEC got no XP, but the MAG got a full level (approximately .25 to .50 blue per kill) in about an hours time.
