Anyone have any suggestions on level/tactics for killing spiders in Velks Lab. I entered and played around at the enterance a bit last night, but my pet (49, didn't try rogue pet) couldn't stand up to much - so I figured I would ask if people here have experience there and what tactics they used.

I am interested in killing there mainly for the purpose of gathering threads for the prayer shawls... and I wouldn't mind doing it while the exp should be decent.

I started soloing in there at 56.. If memory serves correct (I am old.. so I hope it does)..


highest life tap
pet buff
dot or spirit shield for pet and you
dot that heals over time
DD or pet heal spell
heal other spell
health/mana spell
FD

Or something like that.. make pet.. buff..

Pull with life tap, dot/heal over time spell, cast heal other spell on pet (this will heal him as he fights), if needed heal pet. If problems arise.. FD.

I played with my spells to see what works best for me. It was a long time ago.. but I made levels there. The Velium sells well in the bazaar, and if you can get a group together, other gear drops higher up. In the back room, a deadly velium spider randomly spawns where the blizzard hunter spawns. Avoid him for now. He summons and hits in the 200's. Drops a no drop helm for plate wearers. Up higher, another spawns almost on the TS (top shelf) in the area where the frenzied spawns (drops silver chitin hand wraps, dagger, axe of the velium brood), and crystal eyes spawns near the top also (drops spider eye, crystal chitin shield, and dagger).

You should be able to solo the entrance no problem. The spiders themselves range from about lvl 46 to lvl 50 depending on the area. It's also good to /ooc that you are looking for the threads, since most groups let them rot. The US (upper spiders) camp drops a lot more threads than the entrance, but that would probably be dicey to solo before you get the 61 pet.

We used to farm US quite a bit, and if we thought there was a good chance the person asking for threads wouldn't train us, we'd usually invite that person up to US to loot the threads to their heart's content. There were a couple times where somebody milling around our camp got the full set of threads (78?) in one sitting.

The experience there at 55 should pretty much suck compared to other zones, but while you're farming threads it should be acceptable all things considered. You might even get into a mid 50's group there, in which case the exp might even be passable.

Either way if you are courteous and assure the other group(s) that you won't train them, you may not even have to kill anything to get your threads. GL to ya!

Would you believe I was trying this out the last two nights :)

Anyways. I'm 56 and this is what I did.

Pet, buff etc. Only self buffed, and I have about 1600hp, so not uber at all :( Although I do have demi-lich. But that just meant I could chain pull instead of medding each fight.

I used the 56 pet. He hits harder and more often than the 49, and although he has less HP, he seems to offset that by getting hit less.

I set up in the entrance, and pulled with splurt. Once the spider got to me, I'd sic Goner and dot lifetap. Then When goner started getting low on HP, I'd rush in and what away. I've increased offence, defence and 1HBlunt about 50 points in one evening (about 2 hours). And I didn't die once. If you get aggro, either FD or deflux.

I was a little overconfident at one point, and pulled two. (By mistake) but with goner offtanking one, and me defluxing I managed. Close... but I survived :)

In 3 hours I got 60 threads. About 30 from my solo efforts. The xp wasn't great, but not bad either.

When people around my level came LFG, I invited them, with the caveat that I got all the threads :) more people = more dps = more threads for me. B)
