OK, Necromancer pets are just like Magician pets in the fact that every item you give them effects them. OMFG that rules. That means they get stats and AC from armour as well as DMG / DLY from weapons...and recently (relatively) Focus Effects and PROCs.
This means if you give your pet a weapon that has a proc, he can and will proc it...if he mets the proc level restriction. (remember your pets level is usually 9 below yours)
OK, here we go...
EQUIPMENT TO USE WHEN SOLOING:
Muzzle of Murdu, Girdle of Magi`Kot, Fists of Ixiblat (2)
Also, try to get a full set of Phantom Plate Armour as well for the AC.
if your pet is high enough, use Kedge blades or whatever
EQUIPMENT TO USE WHEN GROUPING:
if you have a melee, any melee at all, do this instead...
Muzzle of Murdu, Girdle of Magi`Kot, Gnoll Hide Lariats (2)
don't worry about phantom armour in this case as the melee will always have taunt 90% of the time anyway and it's unneeded.
....
Why the Gnoll Hide Lariats? The first time a melee says to the group "I don't know who keeps stunning the mob, but thanx...KEEP IT UP!" you will understand.
Stun = Mob doesn't hit for a turn = Less HP lost by main melee = Less heals from cleric = less mana cleric wastes = less you'll have to twitch.
Damn right, it always comes back to me. Stun pets generally == the WIN in LDON too. (see my rant about twitching in LDON <grin>)

I agree.. and dont agree.. The pets do NOT get dmg / dly from weapons. The pet dmg is set in stone unless you focused your pet with some necro focus item. The percentage they hit however can be increased with shammy Focus spells etc.. But that is just how often they hit and not dmg from the stats of a weapon.
I do agree however with all the rest of your comments. They do get stats from the armour they wear such as the girdle, muzle, etc.. And I also agree that the BEST weapons for your pet sub level 55-58 mobs are gnoll hide lariats. I am 62 and still farm the heck out of Splitpaw for them. I just wish they would increase the drop rate. A pet that dual weilds these is too awesome since they proc allot. And than GOODNESS they dont use the dmg / dly on weapons cause of that very reason. The gnoll hide lariat is shear crap as a weapon in a players hands cause of the low dmg.. but in a pets hands it is sweet!
Also remember to buff your pet with your haste spell. I have the ornate pants (vorshir's (sp) pants of the blight which is right click rune of death on them and it makes a HUGE difference in dmg output of your pet.

don't forget the most important reason to give those pets gnoll hide lariats is for those anoying caster mobs in LDoN.. believe me it makes a huge difference if that damn cleric mob cant heal itself do to the stuns. which means ya don't have to kill it twice... or that damn chanter type that keeps mezzing/charming the main tank...

It works like this
If WeaponDMG > PetInnateDMG Then
DMG = WeaponDMG
Else
DMG = PetInnateDMG
End If
If WeaponDLY > PetInnateDLY Then
DLY = WeaponDLY
Else
DLY = PetInnateDLY
End If
.....
At least AFAICT (as far as I can tell)
.....
And yea, I do a Splitpaw farming once a week until i have 10-20 of those Lariats as well...

I still dont agree. Get a weighted axe if you dont believe me. It has like a 45 dmg on the weapon but your pet will still hit for it's regular amount. I am telling ya, dmg nor dly means anything to a pet, only procs and stats.

Well I can test that easy enough. A SHIV is a junk item in Dulak so I will watch damamge befoe and after I give him shivs them will try a pet with Harpoons or axes as they are decent waepons DMG wise.
There is ONE THING.. at like level 29 a pet will only single attack unless he has TWO weapons. Once he has a second weapon he then dual wields.
The thought about procing never occured to me. I tend to sell things that are worth any plat as I am CHEAP.... :blink:

The pet hits for max damage more often with higher damage weapons. I put the boarding axes from dulak on my pet...He looks cool and he hits for max damage more often. my 2cp.

I guess i missed something along the way....I never bothered with gnoll hide lariats since we have a 60m stun spell that works up to level 55 mobs. Only time i am ever concerned with stunning a mob is typicall Clerics and wizards that like to CH or IC me. However the pet pretty much pushes the mob around and gives it a better chance for interuption. However if it looks like hes gonna do somethign particularly rude stun him with your spell and go on with life. 60m is barely a burp for us. Just my 2cp on the whole deal but id rather spend 35pp on 2 pet weps, a muzzle, and girdle and go farm say seb or veksar for other things.
As a side note i prefer to give the pet 2 diff types of proc weps so i can keep tabs on how often he is procing and i like to increase the odds of getting the procs thru if the mob is particularly resistant to say fire..the other hand may have a better chance. The muzzle is only 11% haste and is nice but alot of times i dont bother with it. The reall kicker of the pet geat is the girdle. Its +10 dex and 500hp are what makes that one a nice buy.
Again just my 2cp. People have their own play experiences and preferences. I was always pretty familiar with the gnoll lariats cause my brother is a shammy and he loved them. He was mainly using them to keep the mobs from running with the benefit of interupts but we have snare and stun so i didnt feel it worth the time.

Mostly agree what was originally said, but I've also been under influence that weapon delay makes NO difference other than how they equip what. There was a patch LONG ago stating pets no longer use the weapon delay as it was "overpowering" for the pet classes.
I've personally given mobs 2h weapons and watched them hit harder than normal with 1h or unarmed. Could be a different damage table on them for 2h or they may really use the weapon, either way i noticed a difference lower level doing the 2h for pet.

I bought a weighty polearm for 10pp and gave it to my pet at 20th level. His max hit was for 58hp. Sometimes he got 3 hits between dot damage messages. With the haste mask and hp belt he was rockin!!

Another note on the gnoll hide lariats. I still solo in Velkators Labrynth at 63 when I cant get a group. The spiders there are light blue but the zone has an experience bonus to it, so it is like fighting DB's. Plus I get a frenzied spider every now and again and get a pair of crystal chitin gloves that I can sell for 3500pp+.
I can solo about the same exp as a normal LDoN group. I never have to stop pulling at 63.. anyway.. the gnoll hide lariats are very sweet for that zone as it stops the mobs from moving for a few seconds each time it procs. Since the lariats proc ALLOT, there are times the mob looses 3- 4 rounds just from being stunned. Many times I don't even have to heal my LoZ pet as he stuns and stomps the spiders.

Point taken. I guess im spoiled on ToD. I jsut spent some time in velks, Coldain shawl quest, and just let him tank it up. If he got Low life just ToD him and go on. Shadow bond method i rarely use anymore now that my brother has canny5 and Qintessence. I used to hit Zevfeers and the shadowbond him while he canny 5. was rather efficient 205 per tick and 655 mana really isnt that much of a hit for us. Any case, and its merely a matter of opinion, i would prefer 4 damage procs vs 4 stun procs. Means that mob X is dieing faster and also means ill have to heal it less. Adding in the stuns on bash checks ive really never had a problem keeping pet alive. Im not bashing the gnoll lariats i just find it not in line with my play style and really dont want to farm a green zone for X time when i can just go buy some damage dealers and go on with life.

Don't go to blackburrow looking for gnoll hide lariats. In all the time I stomped there for quenos faction I never got one. But in splitpaw in South karanas you can get them much easier. I will say though that to get a backpack of them is not so easy to do sometimes. They seem to spawn outside with them as much or more than they do inside the zone.
The lariats though are worth allot when it comes to taking on caster mobs that are stunnable. The gnoll hide lariats are the fastest stun proc of any weapon I have ever used. At times the mobs can barely move from the stuns. Just remember this though if you are trying to agro kite a mob. 1) because stuns piss off mobs, 2) because it will stop them in their tracks. Add the two up and he might turn to your pet who now has to tank.
If however you are tanking a stunnable mob then they are just plain out great! I don't think there is a better necro pet weapon for stunnable mobs where the pet has to tank in the game. Put two on him so he is procing up a storm and go stomp some mobs. :-) If I was going to solo in KC for example even at 65 I would def have a set on my pet.

Two lines in (obfuscated) perl. :)
$dmg = ($weaponDMG > $petinnateDMG) ? $weaponDMG : $petinnateDMG;
$dly = ($weaponDLY > $petInnateDLY) ? $weaponDLY : $petInnateDLY;
... why, yes, I have nothing better to do.
