I'm thinking about starting a character on a PvP Server once I return to EQ. I was just wondering if the people from PvP could give me some ideas of a good class to play on PvP, strategies, etc. depending on the server. I'd also appreciate any suggestions on the server I choose, since I know there are PvP players here.
I know Bards are great at PvP, but any other suggestions I can have fun with, roleplay, and be able to duel well.

Best OVERALL(not just high end) PvP classes in my opinion are:
1. Bard
2. Wizard
3. Druid
4. Necro
5. Shadowknight
Any 65 char with insane gear can kick ass if they know what theyre doing, high lvl melees with awesome gear can be unstoppable...at lower lvls though and with low-mid-high gear those classes are the best.

Alright thanks Umbrello. What server are you on, and what is the situation (teams, etc.) and the teams on the other PvP servers.

Umbrello and i are on sullon zek and we are both evil necros... we are in the same guild tooooo B)
Not sure about other pvp servers but heres sullon in a nutshell...
Teams: Evil B) Neutral Good (in decsending order of population)
PvP levels: lvls less than 6 are immune to pvp in newbie zones but not regular zones. Any player may kill any player on a different team.
Pvp Looting: Any player who kills another player within 5 levels (con white) can loot whatever money the victim was carrying at death... no items.
PvP Rules: There are NO pvp rules on sullon so corpse campin, spawn campin, training, ect are all legal.
Economy: Sullon's economy is extremely messed up atm... uber items' prices are rising and rising and lower grade items are getting cheaper and cheaper... nobody is camping anything so its really about a 4/5 ratio of WTB to WTS... its an awful server if you're into bazaar whoring...
Most Popular Classes: Necro, bard, pally, ranger, druid, shadow knight, enchanter (these are in no real order and are also just what i have noticed... might not be exact)
Most Popular Races: dark elf, high elf, wood elf, half elf, iksar, halfling seem to be most chosen races
Rarest Classes: Clerics and warriors seem to be slim
Rarest Races: frogs and dwarf i havent seen to many of heh
yah some of these statistics might not be totally on the mark but ya know...
cant think of any other info about it but if you have anymore questions... just ask... hope maybe you come join us ;)

I'm suprised you list Wizards Umbrello.
At the highest end most people will resist all but their lure line, and those are 5 sec cast time unless they have spell haste.
Personally i disagree with that one but then again i dont play on Sullon, i play on Rallos.
My list would be a bit different.
Bard
Shadowknight
Necromancer
Druid
Shaman
Beastlord
This is for 60+ however and decently geared or at least in Save VS X gear.

Alright thanks for the info and and class stuff. I'll read more into the PvP stuff, and hope to join a server as an alt or something of the sort.

Personally i have never tried PvP, but from the rules you wrote it sounds challenging to say the least. Spawn and corpse camping is kinda harsh. lol
Now Loading..... Should be a regular theme on most peoples computer screen from the sound of it. Might try it just to see for myself what its like.

I play on rallos zek just started up. To be honest I find it more challenging to play there and have to worry about being looted for gear. But you better have high magic resist or your toast. Nothing worse then being blinded/snared/rooted give it a shot on rallos if you like I'll hook you up with some basic gear. Let me know my char on there is named Zaveon.

I can't believe that you guys think that Bard is #1 PVP... maybe number 1 trainers... and number 1 cowards.... if you atually die to a bard then there is something wrong cause you suck... they either need other people there to kill you after you have been mezzed debuffed and mana drained or they will just run away... Bards are not pvpers...
And who put druids ahead of necros... man druids are the suck... we have better dots, mana regen, and a DD/heal all in one.... they only thing that will save druids is very high resists or they will go down fast....
Wizzard is the only class that is actually decent at pvp... and its thier shields that save them... you open with life tap dot which will usually stick... then you have to try and DD through like 3 shields before you can heal yourself... which usually means your casting gate or zoneing after about the second life tap cause the wiz has nuked you to 50%
Just my 2 cents...

So your saying a bard couldn't beat me if all my mana was drained?

I disagree with either SK or Wizzie being better at pvp... my list of best classes definately consists of bard, necro and druid.
There are definately some levels where a druid is waaaaay better than a necro... remember your early 50s, before you get deflux when your tap will always be interrupted? And if a bard is well played he should be able to stay out of casting range most of the time. Still, a well played necro shouldn't ever die in pvp... if you aren't winning, HS and gate are there to save you. And really, as a necro you should be winning.
I love playing on a pvp server... the best part is it is totally cool to make enemies, it won't come back to haunt you (providing you don't make enemies on your own team, and even then sometimes it is okay!) and raids and xp spots being determined by who is strongest and smartest, rather than who was there first or taking turns.
Sullon Zek is great.... it's true the pricing is way messed up.. partially because of the greater value resists have here, a bit because of what zones people are in and what is controlled by what team, and in large part because of the low population. Low level tradeskill items often sell for 5 times what they do on other servers. But it's a small price to pay to play here.

/agree aryse. Well said, I like sullon zek alright myself, but some people piss me off. Funny you mentioned making enemies with somone on your own team, I just had that happen to me tonight! Only worse, it was somone from my own guild.
I bitched about it in a thread i started in the Flames forum.

Don't know about most people but as far as i have experienced on Terris-Thule in Highend dueling Bards can be very tough but things are alot different seeing as 90% of my dueling is in baz arena or The Arena but yeah a bard with elemental gear and the knowhow of dueling wouldnt be an easy target to kill and as far as SK's go they are just luck we cant Lifeburn like they can HT ;p but they are killable in an open place easier than the arena and Wizards i dunno last wizard i faught was about same gear as me and we faught for a little while seeing as i resistsed he resisted all came down to Crits/ecepionalheals for me and me living through the MB and killin him ;p

And anotherthing i forgot to say about high end bards is its hard to fight when they take all your mana and stay out of range most of the time <_<

If your retarded enough to sick around and let a Bard chain cast mana drain on you while he ducks in and out of casting range then u would lose to a duel with an Orc Pawn...

Hello Everyone!
My main is on the fennin ro server, and I just started an Erudite Necro on sullon zek. Talk about a difference! PVP is new to me, and I'm still tryin' to get the hang of it. I'm up to level 7 now, but need to find a place to safely hunt. As I was leaving PAineel last night, there was a Ranger parked outside the zoneline, rooted me, and pk'd me in about 2 seconds. After I came back, tried to zone into Toxxulia again, started wacking on a kobold, then some crack backstabs me for 251! WTF???
Kinda hard to start over again, being from a different server and all.I'm wearing the cloth gear I've looted from skel's and such.
Question: Where is a safe place for lower level hunting?
Also, I've been killing spiders in Toxxulia for silks. Do they also sell well in Bazaar on Sullon Zek?
Thanks all!!!

I started on sullon zek too, as an iksar necromancer (but of course), and from my experience and from the advice of what people have been kind enough to tell me, Any zone with PoK books, is good/bad for PK'ing (pending your viewpoint) I don't really know where to go, I'm level 6 but in an almost full-time raid guild on bertox so it's really hard to get a block of time to take a hiatus during normal playtime for me. I heard Kurn's tower(which is where I planned to go next) gets cleared by level 60+s pretty regularly, although I've also seen several high level iksars and DE's running around looking for those people.
Just a guess but I would think, playtime/time of day could be a big advantage to getting up in level to the point where we're not so easily dispatched, PK'ers start rolling into FOB at about 4pm EST, from what I've seen, which happens to be when my guild's raids start so....I haven't recieved much grief. I can say though I'm looking forward to casting fear on cabilis guards, and fd'ing when I see that red con PK'er close by =)), they're very fast and very resistant to magic, and some roam (should make a level 60's day /grin). I dunno, I'm pretty actively trying to atleast make they're day more difficult then mine, should they be around causing grief, and from what I hear...that's not petitionable, so nps with "enlisting NPC help" heh. paludal caverns I heard is very PK orientated as well, so if you go bring friends =)

Pvp does sound kind of neat, so I think Ill prolly try to join RZ os SZ sometimes in the next month or so, just to see how things go, though doing a Nec all over again from scratch is going to be a living nightmare...
Then again, thats what we Necs are for B)
