I am curious on how the fellow necros organize your spellbooks.. after 58 levels of play, I have acquired *almost* all of my available spells. But, I'm having trouble keeping track of where they all are in my book...

I started out with a page per line; for example all my boiling blood on one page, all darkness on another, all poison dots, all poison DDs, etc... It's worked well, but now there are just too many icons in there that look similar -- MindWrack is same image as Bind...

I realize I can just delete old spells, but I'm a packrat and I'd rather not.

Anyways, other tips/tricks out there that you use to keep things nice and organized?

I used to keep them organized in a very complex system that developed over time based on category and how often I used them. Since the advent of the right click spell memming menu's I have just been filling the next empty slot and my book is a total mess.

I've always used the technique where:

1 section would be used for my spell lineup, typically having this be pages 1&2

then i skip 1 page (page three for example) and put my emergency / utility spells, such as Levant, invis, IVU, ect.

then i skip another page and begin to catagorize (dots, self shields, old manaskins, ect)

This makes for a large spellbook, but I like to keep a page open for new spells. (even at 65 they add spells) It might not be the best system, but it's what I use.

Pretty close to how I do it, too. Plus, banks 3 and 4 of my hotkeys link to the specific pages.

I tried. I tried so hard. But as I kept getting levels and new spells, the sheer quantity of spells overwhelmed how I had it organized. So, upon reaching level 60something, with a nice list of all the spells available to an almost fully grown necro, I set out upon...a QUEST.

A quest to organize the spellbook. All the pets together, the lifetaps, the mana regens, the poison-based DDs, ect... I thought to myself, "Neth, you nifty necro, most of these spells are already organized, so it shouldn't be too hard!" So I set out upon my quest...

Sadly, this quest was never finished. Gave up in the middle of organizing it. Especially since I had discovered the wonderful joys of right-clicking the spell gems, and saving spell sets. Alas, the reward of an organized spellbook was obsolete before it even began, much like my half-finished epic, replaced by something more streamlined and efficient.

I load spells using right click method mostly, I never delete anything and recommend against it because there have been odd times when I've used a bizarre spell I never thought I would again. I'm lazy, for a longer answer about how I actually keep my spellbook, check out this thread:

How do YOU organize your Spellbook? (http://www.necrotalk.com/index.php?showtopic=1352)

I've tried the "keep all the same type of spells together" method. I've tried the "I don't give a shit, I'll scribe it anywhere" method. Neither of these methods worked for me.
This is the system I've developed:
Pages 1, 2, 3, and 4 are for my "working" spells, spells that I frequently find myself casting. From there it flows into spell level order arranged in alphabetical order beginning on page 5.
WTF I hear you say. I'll try and explain it a different way.
Starting on page 5, I have my 1st level spells arranged in alpha order - Cavorting Bones, then Cold Light, then Disease Cloud, etc etc. Because there are 10 first level spells, the spell line up extends on to page 6 as well. So we have pages 5 and 6 devoted to level 1 spells.
Next bunch of spells come at level 4. These are on pages 7 and 8, again arranged in alpha order. You get the picture now I'm sure. From there we just work through the book in the same level/alpha arrangement.
As already stated pages 1, 2, 3, and 4 are for all my commonly used spells. Saves me having to rifle though the entire book.

Right click spell memming is soo much easier than before =D /cheer now that people like it SoE is gonna be like... "We're going to make you have to right click it 110 times before you can mem anything!!"

I've been wanting to work on saving/loading spell lineups as well, any idea where I can find some info regarding this? Haven't noticed anything on different sites I commonly read.

Right click the book icon on the spell gems to save, load, and delete spell sets. My recommendation is to NOT just load up all the gems in each set. Basically, I have a rez spell set (loads pet buff in gem7, death peace in 8), DD (lifetap in 1, neuro in 2), agro (snare in 1, BoT in 2, FP in 3, Kiss in 4). You get the idea. Only the spells that are required for that spell set.

Advanced organization is helpful for this.

And if you haven't used this yet, and do fill all the gems for each saved spell set, remember when you load a new one, it will unmem any gem that doesn't corrispond with what in the spell set. So if you have FD in gem 1, lifetap in 2, and whatever in the rest, and the loaded set has FD and lifetap in the same gems, it won't unmem those. If I just made any sense whatsoever, go me!

I just pit them in an empty spot. If you right click an empty gem spot on spell bar u get a drop down menu all organized for ya. Learn to sellect that way much faster and u can keep spell book from view. Search on the run as I say. Once you know what catgories in the outline have what spells its way easy makes book organization moot.

check it out its sweet.

I have other caster/hybrid alts and the right-click mem works fine for them. But, I will forever stand beside the point that the organization for the necro spells in that respect is beyond fucked. Problem is that alot of our spells have so many components to them that it's hard to place them in one specific category for ease of reference.

As for spellbook organization: I never delete a spell, the outdated spells get moved to the back of the book and are sorted to their respective category. I keep the "gotta mem the damn thing NOW" spells on the first four pages of my book. But overall, in the first several pages of my book, spells are for the most part organized by type. There's the group tap half page, the undead half page, the pet page, DoT page, etc. Makes finding something easy. But then again, my book has been organized this way for such a long time that finding what I need never takes more than a few seconds.

Like Aryse, I never have deleted a spell -- However, I have, in fact, organized all spells by type and function, from least to greatest. Lifetaps on page one and two, skeleton summons on three and four, darknesses on five, poisons on six, diseases on seven, and so on. I also have various spellsets, but sometimes you need to know where a particular spell is that isn't in a spellset -- something you rarely use. In those rare instances, it's nice to be able to type /book #, and quickly mem. what you require for the particular moment.

Guess I am just lazy. I used to organize me book but at around 39 or so, I just started throwin spells into the first open slot. When I need to find x spell, i just delete the spell gem from where I am going to put it and rightclick the slot and go tp the appropriate selection menu and load it up that way. Saves me time from flipping through pages. Plus using certain spell sets for grouping, raiding, agro/fear kiting, etc makes it very nice.

At 65 only new spells will be GoD ones which I am not gonna be getting for least a few months so my book is pretty much done and setup. I keep on pages 1/2 all of the Dmg types for grp/solo. Something like Horror BoT Dooming and embracing pyro pyre short root long root nuero lifebane fire and cold DD with no skele illusion. next page is devoted to my pet charm haste war rog pet shrin. next page is my beneficial ones gate levant shield line rune those next are undead specific undead dd mezz banishment shackle and the sorts. all my old spells are just random shoved in the back of my spell book atm and barring another fabled event wont be changing it since that is when I fixed mine, sow for pet man that would rock Sony scowls at you ready to nerf what error message would you like on your next patch.
