I believe you are talking about the Concordance of Research quest. Go to south ro, and you will see the DE camp there. Can't remember the name of the lovely lady, but hail around the four or five that are there and she will tell you about it. Give her a greater light stone to get the Concordane of Research, which is like a practice book to combine practice runes in for research skill ups. Some the the basic components and rune combines can be found on casters realm.

However, the time and effort put into farming the components to make your runes is a long and arduous process. You may want to cinsider just leveling instead and put those practice points into research, as that is the easiest method. but if you want to practice it the other way, go for it, just be forewarned you will spend a long time doing it.

Practice Rune and Journeyman Rune are two items that you can make for the soul purpose of gaining skillups in research. The practice rune will get you up to a skill level of 21, the journeyman rune will get your skill up to 95. I really recommend that you just spend your practice points in research as there's nothing really better to put them into. For a full listing of runes, their components, and trivials you can head to EQ Traders (http://www.eqtraders.com) and do a search for "(Complete)" or look at Allakhazam's (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/recipesearch.html?tradeskill=Research) research listing.

Yep, practice runes are a waste of time really. Just scrounge up a few pp and put those training points to good use. It caps at lower levels though...which is kind of annoying since the trivial research skill for those levels are a ways higher then what you can train in.
