Friends in EQ

Hey folks... I haven't been playing all that long (May '03) but, I have met some other players in here who have met some people in EQ and then met in RL (Real Life) When I first started playing EQ years ago tho', it was just me and my two buds on a network running around Norrath. Alas, times change and I thought I'd play EQ again cause it was such a blast, still is. I've made some EQ pals and try to help out whenever I can, if it's even possible (i.e. Way higher level than I am). I thought it would be cool to hear other players stories tho'. If you ever find yourself needing a little assistance (Xev Server) look me up. I may be a Dark Elf but, I'm still a nice guy. ;)

I have been playing off and on since March 01. Only story that I really remember about meeting someone in RL from EQ is the last girlfriend/fiancee. We meet on the Venril Sathir server and she plays on Bristlebane now. A little disaggreement caused us to meet in RL. We started talking to each other in late April/early May, Met on 4th of July weekend, and stopped talking sometime around October.


I live a few hrs from alot of people yet I haven't met any of them yet. Only one that I know I may meet is the druid/beastie/monk I am always partnering with. Still trying to get her to try a necro hehe but it doesn't look well so far.

lol i would love to meet some one that plays EQ \altough i would rather happen to bump in to some one who plays in the mall ro something no going around in EQ asking hey were do you live cause there are aloto perverts out there and crap like that allthough im sure you all know the risks and stuff and i also know alot of people that play Eq are aults

was in the mall 1 day and asked her if she knew any thing about the new EQ expansion POP at least it was new at that time and figured out she had a shammy :-) not on my server though .....

I was in a bar with a friend of mine who had just started playing. He started a druid so I was telling him how to kite. The bartender overheard us and asked if we were talking about EQ. Turns out he's got a 65 SK on Rallos. So we started asking him questions about PvP being as that we play on Terrew Marr. We eventually got around to talking about gear and weapons. Then we notice this drunk old man next to us looking at us with this totally confused and frightened look on his face as we were talking about killing people, ha ha ha ha ha it was priceless!!!

Yea my g/f met her best friend on EQ. She lives down in Georgia (we're in Illinois) and she visits us on holidays and shtuff. They plan to go to college together and get an apartment. Well see how that turns out.

My husband and I both play eq...but we didnt meet via EQ. Actually I have an interesting story about that, EQ actually helped our relationship along when we first started dating.

When we first started dating my husband did not have a car and we were both busy with work and I was also going to school for my masters. So we only saw each other on the weekends and sometimes we didnt allways get that. We both started playing EQ and at the very least we were able to play EQ together almost every night. It helped make Monday-Friday go alittle faster. I guess we're one of the few instances where eq helped our relationship.

Additionally a few of my real life friends play eq and play in the same guild I am in now so thats really cool...wish I had joined the same guild as my friends a long time ago.

A RL friend of mine got me playing EQ.We work together,so we talk EQ most of the nite.Most people just ignore us,but we had a 65Beast on a different server<sorry dont recall which> come thru one nite...was funny because his wife wasnt a fan of EQ..and we met 2 people on Tarew Marr that are Time enabled.And this is in a tiny town in Alaska.. =)

My girlfriend and i met on EQ. She moved halfway across the country and is now living with me.

I met a guy last year who played EQ. He told me how he figured out how to dupe items. He said he made like 7,000 dollars or something(dont remember exact figure, but he did buy his car with it), before they fixed the bug.

I got my RL girlfriend back in highschool(love of my life thus far), to play. She started a bard, leveled her to 20 too, but she was playing on a crappy computer over AOL dialup lol, so it eventually became too tedius. I always thought I probably had the hottest RL girlfriend playing on the server(Tallon Zek at the time). P.S. She was a very attractive girl. I still think I love her ::sigh::, we were together for 2 and a half years. Jeez Its about time for me to meet somone new.

I use to play EQ with my brother in law but divorcing my wife changed that , he always told me to start a necro. hehe I finally listened my necro is lvl 57, I play on Innurok server and live in Phila PA. It s always fun to play EQ with someone in RL because you have someone to talk EQ with that knows what your talking about I have been playin EQ since 2000.

I started to play cuz of my boyfriend, when I was moving away it seemed like a good way to chat every night, and it has been. Funny, too, he's a necro, and I was dead set against playing the same class as him since I didn't want to just be shadowing him... played 3 other classes up to about level 10, and finally caved and admitted that what I really wanted to be was a necro (I count this as my first char, the others were gone so fast). Now I am the same race and class as him /sigh. At least I hope I'm establishing myself as independent and not his twink!

Now I've got my bro playing too. I haven't met anyone irl that I knew first in the game, but that's partially just cuz I don't know anyone in game from where I live.

ive met a few people in real life on eq i was living in michigan parents just got divorced got mom into playing it and she met my step dad on eq we moved out to washington hung out liked it there step dad and mom been to gether for 4 years now also his brother inlaw plays and the town chiropracter i was amazed that old people played video games when i met them hehe o well thats my exciting eq story

Most of the peeps in my guild are peeps that I work with (we're on a cruiser homeported in hawaii :D ) . I have also met other people on other ships that play here in pearl harbor. It was a real trip to find out how many people here play. My wife also plays (although on a different server <_< ). She has a 65 human monk on the tribunal server (nobody's perfect hehe).

Ssyruk, be nice. I played on Trib for 2 or 3 years and plan to return when I get back on. What is your wifes name (character)? There are only a few female monks that I see on that board.

I know that people in my guild have started arranging meetings. Several of our officers have but I have. I keep in touch through email though and consider two of them close friends (the third one I know in RL).

Yeah I have bumped into a few people, the first was at an EB Game store. I had just started so I had no freaking clue what he was saying. He had like a lvl 57 pally and said that he couldn't go into Kelethin since he killed their god lol. I just nodded and say cool. LOL now i know what the hell he was talking about. And then just last week I was at a Media Play and this guy that was decked out in harley davidson leather came up and picked up an EQ card. We started talking and he had been playing for about 2 years. It proves that anyone can truely love EQ.

I also started playing because of a boyfriend... we did not work out, but I still play EQ :)

I have met a ton of people from EQ in real life. I joined a guild and it wound up that almost all of the officers were real life friends who lived in NJ. When I found that out, we all started talking and eventually went out to grab some diner together. It was a lot of fun managing a guild with people you know in real life.

I am currently doing my masters thesis on relationship development in MMORPGs... the reserach thus far shows that people do in fact make friends online and move to talking on the phone or meeting in real life. If you are interested in this topic, I can post my thesis proposal, it is about 20 pages, so it is a long read, but it is really interesting if you are into the topic :)

I started playing in 1999 and joined the guild I'm still in. I have never met any of my guildies in RL but I have talked to some on the phone and even let one friend use my 51 druid to forage for his crafters.

Although I have never met any of these people we are all very clsoe I guess playing together for 4 yrs does that :D

The best story I have is when I was around lv 30 and some of us were grouped in Veliuos right after it came out and we were using Roger Wilco to chat when I went LD. When I tryed to log back in I was denied because sony had tried to procces my payment (Debit Cards are Evil!) and my account didn't have enough money. I told the guys I'd be off for the rest of the weekend until I could get some cash in the bank. One of the guys asked for my phone number and then called me and gave me his credit card number so I could get back on and play.

I was and still am in awe that a person I have never met in RL and lived 2000 miles from me would do this. You don't need to meet in RL to forge lasting friendships.

yeah i know a RL person that plays EQ my best griend i convinced him to start playing that it would be fun and he did he is a lvl 25 ench on the tribunal server and we talk all the time in EQ and out of EQ it is cool to know some one that playes EQ in RL
