After a night of raiding OoW content, my guild decided to hit up M`shas last night to help gear the newer members. By the 2nd M`sha, we had a nice collection of trash corpses. The other necro present, and myself, work our magic and hit AotD.

Watching a total of 7 Kyvs rush in generated the usual reactions, and a couple unexpected ones. We got the usual "jesus christ" etc., but it was when one of my leaders said that we need like 5 necros doing this; that caught me completely off guard. I noticed that people stopped ninja looting the trash corpses after he said that too. Alot of them do that just so that we can't use WtD or AotD.

Army of the Dead is a nice little bit of mana free dps that doesn't get utilized as much as it should, mainly because other people bitch about it etc. Anyone who's grouped with me more than 1-2 times knows that I plan on using it, and will leave corpses special just for me to wake (4 bazus in WoS does wonders for scaring the crap out of 3 groups at once :P).

Army of the Dead is a 3/4/5 pet Wake the Dead, essentially, at levels 1/2/3 respectively. The main difference is that Army pets will strictly melee, so it doesn't matter which class you wake (chanter pets were notorious for screwing things up).

It's been 666 for at least a week.. since I know he has played for more than the 12 minutes it takes to get an AA (*inserts tongue in cheek*), I am betting it's cool enough that he stopped pressing sync.

Felicite knows me well =). I'm at like 680-690...I don't know where exactly. I just figured I'd wait til I get a new item, since I liked the number that it worked out to.

Army of the dead will flurry and crit if you have those aa's, so they can be atleast decent dmg. The only single cast that is gonna match it, is gonna be lifeburn...if the pets live and melee for their full duration, so it's definetly a well spent 4-5 seconds(cast time).

I still like the reaction I get. When we have 4 necros on raids, it gets real real fun /grin. Pets, with archers, epic 1.5's(x3), and regular pets. It's 39 pets going at one time, from 4 people. Then the 2 mages with their trail of **** pets, and shaman with there spirit call...it gets a bit insane.

Jeb, are you saying Army of the Dead single cast is about equivalent to (your!) lifeburn? or that the army of the deads you can cast during 2 hours 24 minutes is equivalent of (again YOUR) lifeburn? Either way...if its about matching jeb's lifeburns...this seems like a GOOD AA to get. (sorry, can't remember the recast time on AotD, not sure I really looked) (also, guess that would be with them critting/flurrying maxed out too, but still, very nice. i image non-crit/flurry would be more equivalent to my little 6k lifeburn)

No..it's not equivelant or close to my lifeburn. It is better dmg then any other single dmg cast/ability that we have though. Our best single dmg spell is probably Pyre of mori, or Ancient curse of mori..depending on foci. Neither spell is going to break 5k without an insane crit rate, and that won't be able to be relied upon. IF army of the dead melee's for it's full duration, on mobs that don't heavily mitigate melee dmg of that type, it will do 5k+ dmg...with crits and flurries.

That's odd... I use AoD specifically because other people bitch about it. In fact, I go out of my way to find large model mobs because I know they're the most annoying. ;)

I said that in general. Overall, I love finding the biggest things I can wake anymore, especially on raids. ;) Sucks tho, the guild chanters have gone to a mode of assuming that several adds at once are necro pets, so the fun factor (from that angle) is reduced somewhat... but the melee still bitch up a storm. :D

Haha, I could see how they would get freaked out and think they have some adds.

The Army of the Dead entry in the AA master list says

Army of the Dead
(Omens of War) / Secrets of Faydwer)
# of levels: 9
Cost/level: 3/6/9/6/6/6/9/10/12

I was looking at my AA list, and I see that this AA has 12 ranks now, not just 9. I imagine that 3 new ranks have been added with the Seeds of Discord expansion.

Anyone know how much those cost, or add in DPS?
