I have been soloing walruses, snow devishes(sp?), and frost gaints off and on since 29. The main mobs you have to watch out of for are the man o wars and those damn snow griffins (god I hate those things).

Spells - Summon Dead, Dooming Darkness, Spirit Tap, Boil Blood, Heart Flutter, and Shock of Poison.

Method for walruses - Pull with Dooming Darkness then send in pet. Cast in Boil Blood and Heart Flutter. By now, you should have built up enough aggro to aggro kite. If you haven't then cast SoP and that will most likely get the aggro you want. Just run along the Kael ent ravine and you shouldn't see an add. When you do pull, make sure the walrus is away from any other walruses or a man o war b/c they are very socialable and will add. Remember to keep Darkness on the mob b/c they can move very fast if you don't have sow.

Method for Snow dervishes - It is basicly the same as the walruses but you are out in the open a little more. They roam from the gaint fort to the sleeper's tomb to Kael and back to the gaint fort. the dervishes will have to be kited towards any place that you don't see adds at that time.

Method for Frost Gaints - They roam from the Great Divide ent to Kael. I basiclly followed the same method as the walruses but I kited them along the wall. Frost gaints drop frost gaint toes and a head. They are used in the shawl quests.

From experince I can say:
Walruses run from 29-38
Snow Dervishes run from 32-36
Frost Gaints are around 33-40 or higher.

Reason to avoid the man o wars - they are a 40+ mob
Reason to avoid the snow griffons - they can snare, dot and have sow.

One thing to watch though, is the death squad that can spawn close to KD entrance if you set off the trap there. I suggest leaving them alone and zoning into KD. I have taken 2 in an agro kite, but it was nasty when they would catch me since they can't be snared or feared.

Another word of note, there is a dwarf that asks for help on some quest, if you say I will help, three DB giants and a named will spawn and run at you while the kl;klj dwarf Feigns death!. The named giant drops something that the dwarf needs and who in turn will give you a smithing hammer when you return it to him. I have made the mistake of saying I would help and having those mobs jump me unprepared before and it got nasty. Fortunately I ran away with enough life to FD and then lifetap some bunny rabbit to death when the mobs were gone.

I tried it again, this time prepared.. and they still smoked my pet in short order when he got dmg agro when I was agro kiting them. I managed to Kill the named without my pet but it was one exhillerating fight let me tell you. I only posted this to warn anyone from telling that dude they would help (wish I could remember that coldain's name but he is standing alone in the middle of the wooded area close to the bridge to iceclad - between it and the orc fort). That quest is meant for a high level group to kill all of them, and not some solo necro. LoL. I suppose a bard maybe able to solo them all easier with an AE snare, and then DoT, but for any other group it is a super rough fight. I would leave him alone unless you want a good fight and you are 63-65.

If you still want to do it and need the hammer, here is how.
Use engulfing darkness for the non named giants. (fast cast time)

1) Snare a NON named giant as they run at you from over the hill behind him.
2) Run a ways and snare the next NON named giant. Do this in turn till all the NON named giants are snared.
3) Run quite a way from the others who are snared with the named still in tow at top speed. be CAREFUL to avoid agrom from the cats and dervs in the zone.. they only compound the problem.
4) Snare the named giant with dooming darkness or higher. And DoT to your hearts content. Have your pet parked somewhere and summon him to your side once you got only the named alone. (I have a belt that has summon companion on it for an effect so it is really easy).
5) Agro kite him to death. You are done! Loot the (poison I think if I remember right).

Watch out though for the others when they break snare.. they will not give up on finding you so after you kill the named you might want to FD till they despawn. Also make sure that you have run the named far enough away from the others before you snare him as they will be way out of site and will have a time getting to you.

6) Wait for the dwarf to respawn, and tell him you will help again. He will not take the poison before you tell him you will help. This time as SOON as he Feigns death hand him the poison and you will get the hammer in return.. now RUN! cause the giants will have spawned again and be very close behind. lol.

You are right!. he is tain hammerfrost.. and he wants the vial and gives you the hammer in return. Ring 4 Quest guy. lol. Thanks man you cleared up who he was for me. I have a 65 Rogue too, but I have never done the ring quest so he was a mistery. Funny part is, when I looked him up on your link, the picture of him shows him FD just like the kl;j dwarf did to me after I said I would help.

I can remember my first xp with the Kael Death Squad. They just popped out of no where and I was massacred before I could get feign death off. Sometimes, you will get a GM snow bunny.
