hey guys, was just wondering what effects zone time, and what do u need for hardly no lag in bazaar * if possible...
does loading and zoning get affected more of net connection, or ram? or what? and is it possible to not lag at bazaar, or shadowhaven? right nowi have the following....

amd athlon xp 2500 barton core 1.8 ghz perfect for gaming * my opinion
80 gb WD harddrive 8 mb cache
512 mb Corsair ram
asus geforce fx 5200 128 mb graphics
asus a7n8x- deluxe mother board
and some speakers
and a sweet enermax case all for about $560 or so, havent got it on eq yet... cause my dad is so cool and has an ethrenet card in his comp.. lol j/k

well anyways, will this run eq perfect? pretty good? or what with the new spell effects?

I run:

+ Pentium 4 2.4Ghz
+ 1 Gig DDR RAM
+ GeForce 3 Ti500 (at least I think it's a Ti500.. it's the best GeForce 3 they made before the GeForce 4's came out)
+ Sound Blaster Live Value
+ Promise FastTrak100 TX2 ATA RAID card
+ Striped 7200 RPM IDE Seagate Barracuda's (ATA 100)

I have all SOL models on and I run most zones at max clipping with spell effects set on High and usually have no FPS or lag issues until I get around 20+ people on the screen. At about 30 people I have to start turning some settings down. In the Bazaar I still need to take the clipping down to 0 or 10% to get any reasonable FPS, but it still sucks. I have 'social animations' turned off and even though I can't see people smile and wave at me... or give me the finger, it was a HUGE performance increase so IMO it's worth turning off.

On raids of 40+ people I have to turn off all the spell effects, set clipping at 0 and still I end up staring at the floor most of the time.

I zone usually in about 20 secs while zoning into the Bazzar may take about 40 secs.

Long zone times, in my experience, seem to be a bandwidth problem rather than a machine resource issue. Comcast just upgraded my cable modem to 3mbps/512Kbps so I shouldn't be having any issue there :)

FYI: I have known some people in my old guild who just plain could not zone into some areas. One person, for example, could not zone into the Emerald Jungle zone. Whenever she tried it would try to zone for about 2 minutes and then either kick her back to the zone she was coming from, or boot her to her bind point. At the recomendation of a GM she re-installed EQ (after trying a lot of other fixes) and I believe that resolved her issue.

I think that setup you have should run EQ quite well in most situations, though if you're using a wireless card, make sure the microwave doesn't interefere with it... I learned that my microwave interfere's with my wireless the hard way... Can I get a rez, please? :P

As for the new spell effects, again, in my personal experience, they look a lot better than the old effects and they seem to me to require less resources from the machine to produce than the older effects.

I honestly don't think it's possible to build a machine that will not lag in the bazaar at 100% clipping with all the graphics jacked to the max... but if someone has a system that does in fact perform like butter in the Bazaar I too would be interested in hearing what hardware you have in that beast! :D

recently finally hooked it up to the net, got eq evolutions installed in about 10 mins, got the patcher to run took about 5 mins or so *cable w00t  anyways, i set checked all the character boxes, checked everything cept the social animations also and logged on... made my DE necro finally *MY OWN DE necro haha.. YAY.. zoned in about 15 seconds. Set clipping at 100% w00t. zoned into pok in about 20-30 seconds *forget how much exactly, surprisingly no lag at all then i go to nexus lol not to bad but a big jump from not lagging. then zoned to bazaar, took about 30 seconds, not to bad in bazaar with clipping at 40%.. so all in all 512 mb of ram does pretty good for EQ :P and got it for $85 :D
