Anyone ever soloed the 7th isle in Sky? I was up there a couple of days ago and was thinking about soloing a few drakes after the rest of the raid left to see if I could get a crown for my Mage, but didn't feel too safe on an island full of death-touching mobs :).

Well I've never done it and I doubt that anyone had ever tried it. After all the only way to notice you've aggroed a DT mob is when it death touches. It just is absolutely no fun imho.

Well, I know Mages solo the island, but their pets are quite a bit tougher than ours for tanking the mobs. Admittedly that's often solo as in 'I kill the mobs but I have a cleric bot camped in case I get DT-ed', but they can do it with essentially no defensive spells other than the pet.

I consider every mage who does her/his epic desperate. :) Especially if they do it solo. I did organize and lead a raid for a magician friend of mine to get her her epic piece and all I can say is "I hate PoSky". ;)
And if a death touch mob aggroes doesn't the DT work on the pet owner?

Haven't done this for a bit, but yes you can solo depending on your gear. Don't go near the center of the island, and if the hand of veeshan has been spawned don't go near the opposite corner of where you port in. The death touching mobs on the island are static spawns around the center building. The hand of veeshan if up on island 8 can death touch you if you gain agro on island 7. His agro range reaches over the port spot from island 7 to island 8 but he doesn't see invis.
So only fight roamers and only fight them near the port in spot to be safe, have fun.

BIG problem with soloing is that the pathing sucks. I found it impossible to pet pull mobs as pet would hit an run off then mob would path away only to come back via every DT mob and bam dead me.
You have to aggro and baby march mobs away from the ramp in front of the building. if you get 1 its fairly easy but more often than not i was getting 3 or 4
AND!!!!!
My mage is not "desperate". My mage was a twink LAN character that we were maintaining at 52 to farm Vox and Nagafen so for better dps I did my mage epic and got him a pet that at level 52 out damages Child of Bertoxx...
A 50 mage with epic pet is a scary pvp prospect!

I've never solo'd in poair. Epic'ing 100 +people without aa's and level 60 being the cap will make anyone sick of PoA. I do know that DT's and adds spawning on mob deaths kinda suck for the solo'er. The 5th isle is where our cloak drops, so I'm not even sure why you'd wanna go that far. I guess if you camp out there and wanna expirement with it..I did that with txevu and qvic alot in gates..no other expansion really warranted expirementation outside of raids imo. Original planar mobs are kinda on the tier 1 pop difficulty imo, and really just not difficult anymore unless they're special mobs, with DT or split on death etc..maybe knockback(which I believe the eye of veeshan on the 8th isle does(but it's been a few years). Pathing has always sucked (see harpy island)...I guess if you really wanted to, pet pulling almost always works...but back to my original question, why bother?
There's tons of time sinks in EQ that aren't really rewarding, why create artificial ones?

The main reason for bothering is that my Mage has everything for their epic other than the crown from the 7th isle, so if I can get one solo it will save having to take a group up there. The Mages say that the mobs resist their nukes all the time, so I was wondering how I could actually fight them unless they spend all their time casting rather than meleeing.

I'm pretty sure mages use that huge ds they get in oow and chain it with pets. Its unresistable.

It's been a while since I was on the seventh isle, so add salt... but from what I recall, the reason they resist all spells is that the drakes are "belly casters", like dragons, IIRC. To cast on them, you must be in melee range - this will tickle a bit if you're solo.
Since mages have no real way to heal (bandaids being the exception) few of them are willing to solo the seventh isle unless they're desperate or VERY equipped. Casting spells beyond melee range = 100% immunity. I might be wrong, but that's what I seem to recall.
Chaining Pyrilien Skin would probably work well enough (particularly with a heavily focused pet) and I think tap tanking might be viable as well - but I'm not crazy enough to try soloing around DTing mobs yet. I'd take a cleric or a lot of EE's, and keep a stack of coffins in the bank... just in case. Don't even try the sphinxes solo, and stay out of the temple proper.

Fortunately it looks like I'll be able to trade a ride to the 6th isle for another guild for a crown, so hopefully I won't need to do this now, but once I have a few more AAs, a lot more hit points (buffs get stripped zoning into Sky) and a pet focus I may give it a try... I hadn't thought about the belly casting thing, you're probably right.

Before my last reformat..I had over 50 screenshots of different mobs DT'ing me or one rounding me. Just a series of "you have been slain" and guildmates going "wow, jeb down again". They're usually pre-empted by a "You will not evade me." In my own defense(I'm not stupid) alot of them are like after tanks die, or we were whiping. It's funny to see the escalation though. Everything from dracholiche and old inny, fright, terror etc, cazic(pofear) all the way through pop, some mold droppers, elemental gods. Heh, just about every mob in time(save trash, but some of them too!) Just about anything in Gates..still remember that 10k backstab I got in txevu...
Going from getting hit for quad 400's to quad 4000's+ it's truly been quite a ride.
Conversely, our mt got "dt" in inktu'ta (it's 20k) called the curse of noqifiel, and lived, until the mob immediately hit him for 4k. Spell shield, runes, and alot of hps heh..

I remember when I did Inktu'ta, as a guest of my guild (have something like almost 2k more hp unbuffed now than I did then raid buffed). After dying god knows how many times on the way to Noqufiel (AE rampage, tank dying -> 'You will not evade me, Xelgadis!', etc), the DT'ing mobs were a welcome refreshment. :P
a vacuous cursebearer shouts 'Die!'
'Course, after doing Ikkinz4, Uqua, and Inktu'ta (all in one weekend), I had a fairly good idea of exactly how mortal I was (and how long I'd be running at 90/10 again to get back to 99% into 65).

Just Curious, I have collect all but POSky pieces and the Mansi Herb from Chardok.
We have a raid set for POSky this weekend, question is can I do turn in if we get all 3 pieces for the Spiroc Cloak, or should I wait and get the Mansi Herb then go back and do turn in after I complete all the other parts. Will it mess up the other turn ins I'll be doing?
Thanks...

Pretty sure the cloak is a seperate quest: you just do the turn-in to get the quest cloak, then hand that in later on.

Thanks Nigyl, I went on raid on weekend and got my Silver Disc and Spiroc Feathers, now we'll go back for the big kill. Those that can speak from exp can you describe how the fight went against the Keeper of Souls.
I will likely have approx 3 grps lvl 65 and up, maybe more but would like as much info as you can provide. I read up on him some and Know that it is a Unicorm/Horse of sorts, and that he DT's every 30 Secs and need to know if he also has an AoE, and how hard was it to pull him. It seems to state he spawns under the island we'll be on, is that correct?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
