Hey all, this is my first post here. Loving the site lots of great info , Im currently a 55 DE necro on tunare and have been chasing down the parts for the Words of darkness (clickable mini lich) Ive been struggling to get the shadowed book to drop off the shadowed men though (Define stuggling as adding "shadowed man" to the endagered species list) , I heard a rumor that different spawn points for these mobs yeild different items more commonly, has anyone succsefully done this quest? and if so what zone did you get the shadowed book to drop?

I did this quest about 2 years ago, and there was a trick to make the Shadowman necro ALWAYS drop the book. Not sure if Verant/SOE/whatever have fixed or changed it since, but here was the old way:

The item you need is dropped by "a shadowed man" of the necro class. When he spawns you see him holding the book you are after. He'll also pop a skelly pet. It is more than frustrating that he's holding the book every time he spawns but it's almost never in his loot after you kill him. Or so it seems...

Here is the trick that worked about 2 years ago, when every necro and their sister wanted Words of Darkness because the open-book look was "in". When the shadowman necro pops, have with you two junk 1HS weapons (rusty, shadowed, whatever... MUST be one-handed) and a helpful druid over lvl 5. Have the druid cast Harmony on the shadowman necro and any others that are within aggro range of him. Walk up to the shadowman necro and give him both of the junk 1HS weapons. He will then be dual wielding the junk weapons, and THE BOOK IS PUSHED INTO HIS INVENTORY (WHICH YOU LOOT).

This would ONLY work with Harmony. Mezzing the shadowman and giving him the weapons would poof the book, as would charming him and giving him the weapons. It HAD to be Harmony, and BEFORE the shadowman aggro'd.

This trick worked EVERY SINGLE TIME that I did it years ago. Note that it may not work now, since NPCs now won't take items they aren't supposed to or whatnot.

I remember when i was doin the quest for my harvester i found that the shadowed men in Lava Storm had a book sometimes i ran into 2 or 3 when i was looking for the shadowed scythe(i think thats what i had to get from them). Hope this helps :)
