Welcome Deadmaan. I'm working on my research. Mostly using my practice points for it (paying my guild master).

sure research is worth it, if you plan on researching the new research and 50+ spells for yourself or other wis/int casters.
i payed for mine as well, up to 185 with a few practices from combines here and there. check out other places in theboard there are further threads about research =)

It is sad to say.. but I bought all my spells that are research. I just have NEVER liked filling my bank up with stuff with useless crud. We don't have the bank space to both fill up with quest stuff AND research stuff.
Now, I am a rich player in that I have been playing EQ since just after it went live and have 3 level 65 charectors (well, 2 and 1 that will be by this weekend). And all are very capable farmers. Sooo.. I bought all my spells. Do I recommend this? Not unless you are rich; otherwise, yes.. you need to research your spells or you will likely have to do without a few esp when you get upper level.
For eg. CoB cost me 30kpp on my server, and my 65 DoT BoT also cost in excess of 30kpp. If you are in a high level guild, then you might can just aquire them through the guild, but like in my case, only my main is really sanctioned by the guild and not my Necro.. so I am SoL and have to buy everything.

i say research is definetly worth it... especially with the new LoY updated research... heres an example...
a rich guy i knew was making a new character (a necromacer) and didnt want to bother with research so he payed me 20k for every researchable spell up to 51 ( so basicallly just all the original ones and group dmf and sacrifice)... well i finished the next day and am now 20k richer... i had about half of the spells already and didnt take me long to find the rest of the words on vendors... probably cost me less than 250pp to put the whole thign together

Good day, my fellow Necromancers. I have been away for a long time, however, viewing some of the new spells and such, research is very important. I, even though I hate it, having been doing research myself trying to raise my skill in it so I may one day research higher level spells. I would recommend ever Necromancer to do the same, for we all know that if you want someone to research a spell, most of the time they will charge an outrageous amount, or, if they dont like you for any particular reason, may just take your research items you gave them and simply walk away with them, and we all know GMs are rarely on anymore, ,and even when they are, they rarely do anything but give a warning. Well, my my fellow Necromancers, I bid you all a farwell and a good day.
