Ran into a funny situation while on a LDoN today. <_< Was grouped with a Necro (not sure where his head was) on a Hard LDoN this evening. I must apologize, as I wasn't playing my Necro at the time. During the 46 seasons my Necro has been around tho', DoT'ing (Damage over Time) has pretty much been the first among many spells I cast on a Mob. At any given time I have counted up to 100+ HP loss on the Mob per tick. More so at higher levels. In this particular case I would have definitely DoT'd the mobs that kept healing themselves over and over again. After getting rez'd  , I politely asked the Necro if s/he ever used the DoT line of spells. S/he would rather use the Lifetap line of spells over and over again. So... To DoT or not to DoT? That is the question. Sorry if this sounds like a /rant. Just curious really.

Well here's the thing... If DPS is good, no need to DoT. At high levels, DoT's are mana Intensive and don't pay when you can nuke. Also Lifetaps are High Resist so they work well as a nuke, but the Lifetaps DoT's are also high resist and should work better in that situation being as that s/he should be liching as well. Our fast acting poison and disease dot's are high taunt so you also want to wait till the MoB is slowed and the tank has plenty of aggro, but again if the group has good DPS it's not worth it at that point.
In my opinion, the best way to deal with a healer is to chain stun it and nuke the hell out of it. Don't cast DoT's to counteract the heal, don't let the bugger get a chance to heal, beside's if the MoB CH's then all the DoT DPS was for naught anyways...

Aw, I see. Thanx Schaeffer for the input. It's always good to get another point of view. Good Point, and well said.

In LDoN, DoTs are not mana effecient. The mobs don't last long enough. So nuking (including lifetaps) are much more mana efficient in a LDoN adventure. Why DoT it for 18dmg/tick for 3 ticks, when you could nuke it for 150 and it cost the same amount of mana?
DoTs are good when things aren't going down fast. In LDoN, DoTs aren't too mana efficient, except on the harder mobs/bosses. But even then, a few lifetaps would probably end up doing more damage...

i would recomend the envenomed bolt line of spells cause they only last 49 some seconds and is fast enough to get off damage and not be nonmana efficent ( if that makes sence)

In Ldon, I usually only dot if we're rooting adds. If there's 2 healers and no mezzer, Embracing darkness and Blood of thule will get one's attention, root it out of heal range of the other, and then go nuke the one the group is on, possibly clicky pyro/splurt(if you have those available to you) and horror...on the parked one and then FD(if your on hard level). Most mobs just don't live long enough to make dots efficient in a good group though.

I usually snare and use neurotoxin....
here's the thing every group is different....some groups you find yourself in their dps is low, so you may have to throw in an extra dot.....
Like if Im in a group with low dps I will throw in funeral pyre as well...dont make hard and fast rules like dont ever dot in a LDoN group because every situation is different you must analyse the benefits

I only use horor(or bot if mobs mr) if we are rooting, oting or boss mob. I throw zevfeers on sometimes to help with healing. Other then that I am all neuro and destroy undead with tap if needed for self heal or speed. Also been using insideousn regression some for the snare debuff factor some places it is rarely resisted. And have tried incinerate bones against ch cause it has stun in it but not too happy with it.
