Well, my 50s are fast approaching, and I find myself looking for more adventure in groups. With bigger zones on the horizon, not to mention the prospect of drops in LDoN, I'm starting to get ideas for raids.

Unfortunately, I have no experience leading such events... yet... B)

I was wondering if anyone had advice for leading raids, or if there are resources available. Also, how often do you see Necromancers doing it? From an RP perspective it makes sense, considering how intelligent we are.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

You need to be more specific on where you want to "Raid". Also "raiding" usually refers to large MULTIPLE GROUP events.

LDoN requires no hunting party experience because there is nothing for the group leader to do except pick the adventure.

Let us know where you would like to lead a hunting party and I'm sure you will get more advice.

Gee. That would make sense, wouldn't it? <_< Sorry about that...

Anyway, I would like to raid Kael, the Temple of Veeshan, and possibly the Planes of Fear, Nightmare and Hate (when I'm bigger). I was wondering about ways to manage group leaders, healers, goals, loot, etc. I've been on a couple raids but I would like some outside advice as well as more in-game experience.

While I see your point about LDoN, managing 6 people in a group, and 36 in a raid is a bit different. While there's less forethought involved (pick a time and a dungeon!), the management aspect is what I'm really worried about.

In my opinion, learn to follow before you try to lead, and i dont' mean that as an insult in any way, just saying that all raids have different little tricks and whatnot that you may as well learn from people that have already been there because you have that option. Just try to make friends with some people that you see raiding the targets that you mentioned and ask them if they mind if you tag along...even without a chance at the "phat lewts" or whatever and try to learn the encounters and what's involved, then you can make an more enlightened decision as to your ability to lead a group of people through the raid.

I've led some raids.

The #1 biggest thing is: RL < EQ at this time. You cannot leave your comp. You need to be there, responding to a million tells.

Next is group management, I try to put at least 1 healer and tank in each group, as well as an evac'er. If you've got enough healers, throw the most expierence ones by themselves.

Puller: the puller needs to know the zone, and bring one at a time. More is easily possibly if people know what they are doing (my Fear raid got trained, about 1/4th of the zone on us - and we only had a 15% wipe).

MA: This is the main tank. They will attack the mob for a period of x, or until a mob drops to x health. This person will call an assist, and make sure everyone listens. This will make sure that only the MA/MT gets and keeps aggro.

Pets: Unless space is a matter, allowing pets is not a bad idea.

CC: Crowd Control. This is the person in charge of one of two things. a) mezzing OR B) tanking an add.

More group management: Try to put the main slower in the MA's group.

I form my first 2 groups as my strongest groups, and the rest are more shallow. The first two have my main slower, puller, MA, and CC. Most times, all in one group.

Make sure everyone listens, and volunteer to help lead raids when you can. Learn to coordinate things.

When I lead a raid and am not in one of the major positions (MA, main slower, CC, etc.), I am the main looter. That way I can personally get the clerics their peridots (usually the only component you have to pay for). The rest of the cash (if it is not a guild raid or something like that) is mine to keep. I always do CAWU on loot, anything that no one CAWU goes to a) guild bank (if it's a guild raid) or B) me to sell for raid costs.

If you are hosting the raid, the extra cash goes to you. Whoever is hosting the raid gets all the cash/cash loot. They supported it financially, so they get paid for it.

Good luck raiding. If you want anything special, lemme know and I'll try my best to help you out.

Best advice posted so far. The best way to learn how to do something is to do it. If you go somewhere not knowing what you're getting into your screwed and wind up with a 3 hour corpse retrieval or an expensive coffin run. Go on several raids in a certain zone before you decide to lead one. This way you'll know what to do to defeat a particular MoB. Knowing when a wipe is inevitable and having a clicker camp out is invaluable. Knowing the MoBs AE and what the best way to get around it is is also invaluable. The second best advice I could give is, even after you've gone on some raids, start small. This might not seem as exciting as taking out a dragon or a god, but certain targets are harder than you think and you'll be happy you did. No one ever starts in NToV as they're first time as raid leader and has success. Do smaller zones like Chardok and Howling Stones and Sebilis. Work you're way up. Do lots of research on the zone layout and the targets and possible faction issues as well on the loot tables. Make sure you have Clickers with plenty of Peridot's and Necros with EE's and Coffins and Mages with Pearls for CoH.
