Just two nitpicks .. they don't really bother me that much, but it's slow today, so ...

Preview Post under Mozilla produces a horizontally squished (or is that vertically stretched?) block of text with less width total than even this textarea. It looks like the formatting there is done with DIV's which have historically been bad for cross-compatibility. Mozilla 1.7.5 on Windows or Debian and Mozilla 1.7.2 on FreeBSD all show this behavior. It looks like it's licensed. Maybe they have compatibility fixes?

The blinky skull eyes seem to show that a new post existed within the last so-ever-many minutes. It's obvious that my last viewed stuff is tracked because threads with new posts get the little new post icon deal, right? It would be much better if the blinky-eyed skulls indicated a post I haven't read in this forum and not a new post within the last half-hour or whatever. As it is, when I check the board the first time for the day I can see where the new posts are, but after I read them and refresh I still get blinked at until something somewhere times out. Maybe I should just use the view new posts targeted search deal.

Anyway, like I said, nitpicks ...

Can't comment re: blinkie skulls.. I live on the "Active Topics" page. But, I have the same result with "preview" in both IE and Firefox:

See?

Edit: I mean, horizontally squished, yes. Just showing a picture.. it's worth a thousand words.

Umbrello might be able to look into those.

For the skull blinky problem a ghetto fix is to simply always click back into the forum of posts you had been viewing using the link at the top or bottom of the post. If you click back into the forum where you have now viewed all posts, then click out to the forum selection instead of using the back button, the skull stops blinking, at least in explorer.

Thanks for the screenshot. That is it exactly. I checked it in Konqueror 3.3.2 on Debian after I posted that with the same result. I never thought to check IE. I guess it isn't a cross-compatibility issue ... unless they targeted Opera or something.

So, I *fiddled* with the blinky skulls some more. I'm not sure, the ghetto fix might be working for me. I'll have to play with that one. Maybe I'll turn into an Active Topics convert.

Thanks guys.

Then you are doing it wrong. It works for me and for my bf, on all computers I have tried it on and with both IE and whatever he uses, Firefox or something.

Once you have read all topics in a forum, click on that forum name specifically. Then once you have the forum with all topics read on your screen, click out to the main page. This only works if you have read all topics in the forum and once you have clicked into the forum, and you cannot use the back button.

Again, not ideal, but if you want to use the skull blinkeys this does work.

or you can use the "mark this topic as read" button and it will only blink when there is a new post.

Didn't work for me.
