Well, I use to play EQ and I had a 54 vah shir beastlord, now, I decided to come back to EQ and I'm not sure if I'd rather have a shaman or a necro. I really like soloing but I was really just wondering why I should be a necro over a shaman. I know all about shamans but know hardly anything about necros so I thought I'd check out this site :)

Thanks

Necros and Shamans can both Solo excellently. Some things to consider in making your choice.

When you get to the Higher levels Necros will have a much wider choice of mobs to Solo. Shamans can still grind by Soloing at 65 but Necros have a better selection of mobs that they can Solo.

A Shaman will have a much easier time getting a group then a Necro will. LDON seems to be changing alot of the bias against grouping with Necros, but Shamans still have an easier time getting Groups.

hehe yeah I'm still thinking about it but I'm leaning towards necro right now. I'm rusty from the game but when I get it I think I can get 51 in 2 weeks RL time. I don't know about played time.

The main reason I pick necro over shaman is because I'd be able to solo to 65 rather than have to group more or grind it.

Shaman are slow at some periods to level solo. Why? Because of their limited ways to kill a mob.

They have basically 2:
Root/DoT
Slow/DoT/tank

Necros have many more, and therefore are better solo'ers (generally). HOWEVER, there are cases where that is not true.

Shaman and Necros are very balanced to being able to take you tough, high-level mobs solo. Why? The Shaman can survive being summoned if the mob is slowable. However, if the mob is unslowable and summons, shammies are out. If it does not summon and is unslowable, possibly. If it is slowable and does not summon, Shaman > the mob.

Necros, on the other hand, can take out just as many big targets. DoTs with a -resist modifer, this is a big help. Lifetaps have a -200 MR modifier on them. However, if a mob is not undead and summons, the necro may have some problems. Key word there is may. Necros can take out anything that does not summon and can take one-on-one period.

Necors have lots of ways to solo, I'll name some:
Aggro-kiting
Fear-kiting
Pet-tanking
Root and DoT

and there are more for us necros. That's the great thing; being able to solo and kill in so many different ways.

Good luck in your choice.
