On both my systems at home, EQ was basically unplayable after the last patch. Everytime I would cast a spell, open a window or click to pickup an item my screen would freeze for a second or so.
Then I found this a post on EQLive. Turns out that last patch of EQ has a problem playing nice with AVG (From Grisoft) both the free and paid versions.
EQ AVG and Lag when casting spells and opening windows since the last Update.
Hello Folks,
First thanks to the people who have brought this issue and it's solution to our attention, I just want to sticky it to the top.
There have been issues identified with EQ and AVG antivirus, we are aware of these issues and are working on a permanant fix, in the meantime,
Open up the Control Center
Double click AVG Resident Shield
Remove the tick from Scan Documents
Click OK and close the control center.

This has solved the problem for everyone I have spoken to.
