A few of the threads have been talking about this as part of other discussions, so I thought I'd start a thread specifically for it. I would love some of you more experienced necros to clarify / expand on high-level soloing please.
How do you solo a mob that summons and is not undead ?
I am a lvl 65 necro with a few AAs (Suspend Pet2 and Mend Companion are the only ones of note) and the only spell I am missing is Blood of Thule (*cry*). My gear is pretty ordinary tho (My Profile (http://www.magelo.com/eq_view_profile.html?num=741237)).
I'm certainly very happy to solo any mob that is either
a- undead (either let the pet tank it and heal the pet with shadowbond and touch of death or tank it myself with forceshield, saryns kiss & touch of mujaki) or
b- doesn't summon (aggro kite or root and dot)
But I haven't really been able to solo the rest since fear stopped working. They just hit too damn hard and fast for Saryns Kiss to be much help, and chain-casting mujaki runs me out of mana too fast and doesn't really do much dmg to the mob, to say nothing of the interupts (although putting my back to a wall helps in that regard).
Once I hit level 60 I pretty much just resigned myself to the fact that shammys have taken my spot as king of soloing *cry*
But people saying things like this :
When you get to the Higher levels Necros will have a much wider choice of mobs to Solo. Shamans can still grind by Soloing at 65 but Necros have a better selection of mobs that they can Solo
make me wonder. I know Keystone had an impressive list of mobs he's soloed, do I have to have gear as good as him to be able to solo all the tough mobs ? Or am I missing something ?
I'd love to hear everything you've got to say, please only information applying to lvl 65 soloing tho.
Thanks in advance,
Ebonstar,
Arch-lich of Innoruuk.

Well it sounds like you are stuck in the lower lvl pet tank deal. At higher lvls Im not going to pretend to know everything as to high lvl necro soloing. But pretty much if its undead your pet can tank it if ya slow it. Other than that you have to agro kite. Meaning you keep agro and shut the taunt off your pet. The mob follows you around while you run dot sick pet routine. Ad then you keep agro on it allowing your dots to do the work with you pet beating the hell out of it. And pet suspend works great if you get into trouble.
HoH graveyard is a great place to agro kite as long as snare stays on.
PoS forrest frogs even at 65 house some great AA exp and they dont summon.
PoTactics safe room is another good spot.
Nadox is great for farming.
Seb is a cash crop at 65 end of story.
Plane of Hate....yes thats right you heard me. Agro kite at the entrance and I couldnt really tell you were the other spot is. Id have to show you. But there is this awesome spot in PoH that has the perfect pathing for it running between pillars. Even better with a Beasty partner. And it drops components for a quest item. Ill Copy and post the final result of quest here for you.
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/equipment/graphics19/marsingersglimmeringgem.JPG
There are 4 steps to the quest. Here is the first result.
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/equipment/rpics/gem_of_sorcery.jpg
The second result.
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/equipment/fpics/gem_of_enchantment.jpg
The 3rd result.
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/equipment/rpics/gem_of_conquest.jpg
And of course the final above. Now why in the hell they have FT3 as the next to last and the last doesnt have the FT I couldnt tell you. But the stats in itself are worth it. And then there is.
Trakkanons Teeth cycle for cash.
Felwilth guards easily for you for cash.
Veksar you could farm all day everyday.
And thats it for my list for now. Ill let you know as my tired arse can think of more.

Thanks for replying Xavier.
Yes I've gone a lot of aggro-kiting, Tactics rocks for that, as does HoH GY, etc.
And yes, undead are easy, just slow and then they're cake.
But what if they summon and aren't undead ? Then what ?
A certain shammy (who shall remain nameless) said he had solod the following mobs :
Guardian Wurms in Skyfire
Guardian Wurms in VP
Cliff Golems
HoT wurms and Drakes
Lodi
Cazel
Severilous
Emp. Chottal
Mycoid Sporeking
Tons of WW dragons
Kael Arena mobs
And a certain necro replied (paraphrased) that he could solo all those mobs. Ok, some of them are fearable (GW's in SF ?), but most are fairly MR. How do you fight those ?
And what about unfearable mobs ? I can't see any way of going toe-to-toe against a summoning, unslowable mob, so what do you do ?

Well the magic resist is easy. Pull with darkness and instead of dotting at first hit them with a scent spell of anytype. Plus you can buy some stones in the bazaar that have nullify magic. So you can debuff them without a mana cast.
Guardian wurms in sf....um ya he used his DA for that and made himself invinicble for that. Noway in hell he agro kited that or went toe to toe with it. Hed have some mad gear for that.
The ones in VP....revert back to mad gear period.
Lodi is cake. If your pet does the majority of the damage at first hes done for. Let pet attack and use your mend companion aa and then dot him up. With a suspended pet after the first dies and you have him snared. Hes done.
Severilous....well Im not gonna call the dude a liar because I really dont know him. So these are my opinions for what Ive tried of named mobs. I dont see this one happening. Id have to see it before I believe it but thats just me.
Sporeking.......easy.....this is a standard pull and pet kill dealy. trust me it can be done. Fungai anyone?
WW dragons are pretty easy if you study them and find thier weaknesses. Like rooting dotting and getting the hell out of spell range. DA as ya running away. And DA is the invicable spell for clerics. Im so damn tired I couldnt tell you what the necro version is. Brain = mush right now. Long day at work.
HoT wurms and drakes.....can be done. There is a method to it. Id say search some website ya bound to find something. I couldnt tell you they have pumeled my ass everytime Ive tried. But I know some that have done it. Just never asked how.
Kael arena mobs....can be done gove or take who it is. Certain ones though he had help. Or its back to the Id have to see it bit.
The rest Ive never tried I couldnt tell you. I personally have damn near soloed Gore. But in the end it required me rezzing myself and getting a beasty duo partner. He went down like a freaking rock. And Ive soloed that stupid fish in Kedge. Which is pretty easy and a great way to make some money if you are the kind of person to capitalize off someones epic. Basically you kill the mob for them they loot it. COUGH bards spine epic piece COUGH. Plus you get bragging rights since the person watches ya do it.

I dont know about you but we can steal agro like a SK I like to tank once and awhile, so Ill do it bet in and dirty and saryns companion will backstab the shitz out of the mobs while you life tap with touch of mujaki and saryns kiss and keep landing ch's due to aa' theft of life 3, works fer me "keep pumping aa's in stam"

Well the magic resist is easy. Pull with darkness and instead of dotting at first hit them with a scent spell of anytype. Plus you can buy some stones in the bazaar that have nullify magic. So you can debuff them without a mana cast.
Well, the Scent line only debuffs fire, poison and disease, not magic (and even then, only by 36 so it's really not worth using). And Annul Magic only strips buffs, it doesn't lower MR, so I can't see how this would help unless the mobs have MR-buffed themselves.
As for using DA, well even if you used both HS and QVoX, that would only give you 6 ticks. Admittedly if you dotted the mob up the wazoo then those 6 ticks are a reasonable whack of dmg and some good healing time for you, but still, I would've thought fights like these would go for several mins, and I wouldn't last half a min in melee with an unslowed mob.
I guess you could use Infusion too, although that only cycles once every 10 mins (same as HS), and 1000 mana really isn't all that much, only 2 spells really, so I don't see how that helps all that much. Besides, now you're starting to run out of spell slots, 1 for Infusion, 2 for DAs, that only leaves 5.
I guess you could use WTD if you had it and a suitable corpse nearby, but that all sounds a bit hard, and besides, I don't have it yet.
Thanks for all the ideas and stuff so far guys, I appreciate it.

Guardian Wurms in Skyfire---kite, with sk, and forceshield have pet backstab...
Guardian Wurms in VP-same
Cliff Golems-tom tank
HoT wurms and Drakes-sk, tom
Lodi-/shrug he can't hurt me, no matter what I do he just dies
Cazel-is nothing...tom tank
Severilous-is kinda a PITA....tom tanking with sk(you have to be in melee range to cast on him. your resists have to be very good too. He runs at sow speed at 20% have a horse, get ahead of him dismount, nuke, repeat.
Emp. Chottal --if you need help here...quit eq
Mycoid Sporeking..LAND DARKNESS, after that just tom tank
Tons of WW dragons try not to kill more then 2 at a time, it's almost challenging then
Kael Arena mobs-quoting keystone "who gives a fuck?"

pana, legacy of zek should OWN most of upper seb... I'd suggest root rot just because you don't have a decent heal, but then again...you're gonna get nuked pretty good. If you resists are good, you shouldn't have a problem there at all...Just keep the adds down a bit and it should be cake. I solo'd there at 55(or there abouts), it's all about picking your spots.

the trick also is to learn the mobs summon timer. most summon i think its once every 9 seconds. but i know other mobs summon on different timers. learning that will help you time your Force Shield and life tap casts
I know your post was asking how to kill summoning and non undead mobs but it also sounds like you dont like to aggro kite. if this is the case lemme tell you that pet tanking for "good" exp is totaly dead for the 60+ necro.
By "good" experience i mean more the 2% AA per kill. If you accept that number or less then you have a long long road of necro AA'n ahead of you.
Unless u want to deal with the "fun" of charm kiting in CoD there simply aren't the zones that will give the exp for your level that offers mobs that can be solo'd by us face to face.
Necro's PWN!!! shamans when it comes to soloing. you should have your mouth washed out with soap for this comment
Once I hit level 60 I pretty much just resigned myself to the fact that shammys have taken my spot as king of soloing *cry*
go make a home in HoH or PoTactics cause these are the places where ur gonna be doing ur soloing for a while until u can get flagged for PoFire

Nothing in droga summons and it's passable exp with good drops/cash. You also work on improving your Chardok faction while your there for those rings we loved so much in the past. (SWCs anyone?) At 65, for exp your pretty much resigned to kiting, or root/rotting. Yes you can have your pet tank many of the spawns in Veksar, but if you've ever exp'd there you know how slow the exp is.
HoH is probably the best open access zone for exp for us, tactics is good if you have access and pofire is well, the best I've experienced. Powater is THE spot for grouped exp IMO, with a full group gaining an aa in 25-30mins. Grouping in POEA is very nice exp. Erm...between that and ldon your exp bar shouldn't be stagnant often. Good Luck.

Yes, learn to Aggro-Kite.......something I need to work on also.
A level 63 Necro in my Guild, who has borrowed hand-me-down gear from me (lvl 58), thus less twinked, has gained as many as 6 AA's a day in HoH. During Christmas break, I saw him "ping" 35 times in /guildchat.
As for the Shammy comment.....

Thanks for everyone's input, it's great to get so much feedback.
I know your post was asking how to kill summoning and non undead mobs but it also sounds like you dont like to aggro kite
You're right, that's really more what I was asking. Basically, if a mob doesn't summon or if it's undead it's pretty straightforward, but I'm more enquiring about the rest.
But you're also right that I don't really like aggro-kiting. I can do it, have done quite a bit in HoH and PoTactics, but I also find it boring. It was good xp, although I'm rather dubious about 35 AA in a day (if that's really true I'd love to know what his method was).
Anyway, appreciate the replies, thanks folks.

I will quote myself and will break it down a bit. I would never make such a ludicrious claim as to getting 35 AA's in one day, though if you ever visit PA, some claim to be able to PL you 5 AA's in 2-2 1/2 hours, so I guess 35 is possible if you have $700.
has gained as many as 6 AA's a day in HoH.
One day total......long day.
During Christmas break, I saw him "ping" 35 times in /guildchat.
12 day (Christmas Break) total.
His name is Braeyll, 63 Warlock on Torv. For his limited play time and the number of toons he runs, he is by far one of the best EQers I have ever met.
I wish you luck in finding something that makes your EXPing fun; for me it is finding a nice Pet Group in LDon.....2 Beasties, 2 Necros, a Mage and a Shammy = 8 Tanks and 6 Casters.......pull entire rooms and rock. 12-0-0 so far with that grouping. ;)

Thanks Orig, that makes sense. Still nuts, but believable.
Yes, LDoN pet groups rock. I had 2xnecros, beastlord, shammy, sk (pet is pretty crappy but *shrug*) and a ranger and it was the best LDoN group I'd ever had. We won 4 adv in a row, each in ~40mins.

Its possible. Come to tholuxe palles sometime and talk to a ranger named Flateous. Now keep in mind hes not working so he had all day lol. 15 hours same group the entire time. Plane of tactics. 24 aa for the day. They have never tried it agian lol. I didnt believe it myself until they posted the screen shots of every ding with time displayed. I would link it if it wasnt for the fact the guild folded last week :(
