Saryrn's Companion?

When I'm in the mood for soloing I've been mainly hunting in NC for AA. I recently got the LDON pet focus (pita to get), and the the 61 pet seems extremely effective there.
He constantly stuns the mob which is a huge boon for me when kiting there (incase I get a resist or don't move to max distance for casting Skullcap health drain).
It also has high regen so I don't mind letting it take a few hits.

I understand that the 63 pet does do much more dmg (plus with ldon focus), however it doesn't stun.
Is the improved dps that much greater to make up for the lack of stunning power the focused 61 pet has? Anyone have any parses on it's dps while kiting murks? My 61 pet does between 44-60dps on the murks - not sure why it varies so much from one murk to the next (well only able to parse 6 mobs, I don't like staying that close to the murks heh), everywhere else the pet usually does consistant damage.


I'm only 61 atm, so I guess I'm not in a rush to get it either way. How much should I expect to pay for Saryrn's Cpmpanion? I see one for sale in the bazaar for 8500 (and there hasn't been on sale for the past week, so I'm thinking it's a decent buy).

I would say buy it (picked mine up for 8500 as well) - hehe you aren't on Drinal are you? (note I am selling a second copy for 8500 atm =) )

I like the stuns of LoZ, but I would go for more dps any day of the week - maybe if I were in the habit of sowing my pet (?possible? sleepy today) this would mean that a snare resist or an oh $#!^ moment might make the stun more useful. Though I don't have the skullcap with a 10sec cast time to worry about so that could factor in - though honestly at 63+ I would probably use Saryrn's Kiss over the skullcap anyways for xp mobs (excellent damage and not that much more expensive than Vexing).

i'd be curious to see some pet comparison DPS numbers as well... especially against high-level mobs... i remember noticing a decent difference between the 61 and 63... but the 63 and 65 seem awful close (subjectively), though i've never checked the numbers

Ah, thanks for the replies. I'll have to give the 63 pet a try when I get to 63 then heh. I wish I could find out how much more dps it would do though.

Also, I am on Drinal, and yes - I saw you selling it for 8500. Sell it to me for less!!! :D

I think I plan on continuing to use skullcap for a bit longer though. Saryrn's Kiss does seem like a good spell, however with dooming/cascading, funeralpyre, pyrocruor, mana-free skullcap, splurt, and darkplague I'm using a bit more mana per time then I should be. I am unable to kill them non-stop (with ft6 - 5 from tribute), unless I get an outside buff - which I don't usually do.

I might change that at 64 though, when I get a 15mana/tick upgrade from seduction of Saryrn (well if I can find that spell, I was talking to someone last night about buying it, but he logged off :/.

If you want those spells for cheap kite in HoH for awhile. It is neither sexy nor the best xp, but if you are short on cash it is a really easy place to load up on some parchments.

I think you should pick up saryn's companion because of the dps it can provide..

personally, I did use saryns kiss when i was kiting the murks there in nc. Course I was lvl 64 or 65 when i started there so I did have better mana regen. When the murk died I was fm.

I will say that when the mob stopped fighting and turned I would tell my pet to back off and I would use my skullcap to lich then send pet back in to finish it off.

The NPC is never free heh sad.gif I have the items ready for a trade in, heh.hehe I got it on Saryrn last spring before the first time they reset the mobs (has happened multiple times now) - it is an awesome neck, if we could guarrantee the mobs not resetting for at least a while it would be a great service to the server to free the slaves again.

The same is true for poTactics. About the same exp as HoH, although I would think at 61 the experience would be very passable there, but still boring as sin.

If you are worried about losing hps from lich just buy some stalking probes (or hebs) and tap them in between mobs

And yes i would be using the 63 pet due to it's dps.the thing is a killer

No point in using EB, also Pyro has a better resist mod, against murks, PoS, PoV soloing it will never be resisted, while EB will be resisted 1 out of 5 casts atleast.

I'm thinking the EB is recommended for agro, although I'm not sure how effective that still is since agro reduction should have taken place for poison DoT's. A debuff might be a better choice for second spell like asystole or cessation of cor if one is having trouble gaining agro off a pet initially.

Since the mid-50's I never have difficulty maintianing agro (when kiting alone) and I don't use any spells beyond my damage set.

And that is all that is needed. Redarkness as FP/Pyro wear off (or Splurt is around 160ish)

hehe if the mob you are kiting are over 55 you can always use the good ole low level fear trick! it is a hate generator! but they may have nerfed it as I have not had to use that trick since horror!

Unless they fixed it recently I wouldnt try the probes/HEBs... necro eats an eye of zomm, crashes off server.

Started that BS around the time DoN came out... I wound up selling my HEB because 1) I could not use it and 2) now have a regen of 28 so really dont need it anymore.

But it worked just fine when I got it, and after DoN came out psssstt!

Seems the server dont much care whether it is an eye you summon, or one someone else summons... eat an eye, bye bye to server for you until you reload.

It sucks.

They fixed the bug with duration taps a couple months ago or so, instant taps never had an issue.

Get SC, skip 65 pet and get 67 imo..Unless someone hands you CoB. It's always been a minor upgrade, but the 67 pet just is phenominal.

I about to ding 68 and I still use my skull cap all the time. 65-67 I was kitting in wos doing the undead murks. I would use the skullcap to recover the damage I took from lich (SoS) during the kite. I always keep life tap up incase snare is resisted and I need to get hp back fast, otherwise the skullcap is good enough
