A little investigating by several board members revealed that the name for the next expansion will be: Depths of Dark Hollow!

So the news has surfaced! The next expansion is going to be Depths of Dark Hollow!

But what will be the content and the features? Stay tuned, as an official announcement is going to be made later today! I am guessing on Dungeons under the world of Norrath that are being discovered as a result of tunneling under Norrath during the wars yet to come and the smuggling from one side to another.....

Well, well..... stay tuned!

Ok.. so it's not a official announcement.. yet.. but that comes today/tomorrow at Fan Faire (SOE has hinted).

Not sure if this means anything, I am pretty sure before every expansion that I can remember posts like this have popped up. I for one believe that Sony is going to register the names of any ideas that they have just in case they use them.

The next expansion is called Depths of Darkhollow. It appears to be an underdark-ish expansion but details will be thicker during the official announcement on Saturday. The devs seem very excited about it and give the impression that they plan to take it in a new direction. One unattributed quote: "No other MMORPG has done this yet". We'll know more tomorrow.


I'm not totally sure what "underdark" refers to. I guess google would show me the way ...

The "Underdark" is were the "real" dark elves live.. the Drow.

My surname "Belbol d`Oloth" is Drow (it means "Gift of Darkness").

There is this live event with the patch "stirrings in Neriak". And you know, Neriak is "sealed" in the future (EQ2). So.. I guess I get to visit home again.

This will be exciting... I would be interested in seeing a new change to the world... I liked the idea of the poor trolls being thrown from their homes... I think it would be interesting to explore the dark elves more indeed (and their plots with the ogres and the orcs! yes...)

7 zones and 15 missions..sounds like another "OOW" type expansion.

Here's betting you have to get some random/rare drop from the 7 zones to get into the end zone.

Granted, it's hard to really say without knowing what the screenshots were taken on, but...

Does anyone else look at those screenshots and wonder if the current EQ graphic engine can really handle that? There's only so much that the current, severely dated, engine can do. Shaders can only do so much, and that seems to be pushing it a little further than what shaders can do for graphics, given the current engine. New graphic engine maybe?

or maybe they are just taking better advantage of the graphics update they did some months back... and putting a bit more work into the actual "art" of the graphics as well

Most of the concept art I have seen from prelease always have looked better than when the expansion hit the desktop market. The only way you are going to see anything close to that after the expansion comes out is by have some really nice system specs imho. And even then I don't think it will look as good.

Artwork looks more EQ2ish though. :blink:

I bet the instances will requires a minimum of 3 ppl too...
