I can't believe I forgot to mention this before:

So I was in Vegas for a conference on business last week. Thursday night I notice someone wearing a T-shirt with Firiona Vie on the back at the Hilton. So I introduced myself and asked if they were here for the fan fair.

They were and so I proceeded to find out some details to see if I could make an appearance. I figured out where the stuff was happening and decided to show up in the morning to see what I can see.

I stayed up all night playing poker (one of the dealers used to play EQ as well, so we got along, but he switched to WoW) and I left for the Hilton at 7am, figuring everyother conference in Vegas has an 8am start. I get there at 7:15 and the place is empty except for two guys half asleep on the lounge chairs. I asked them what was going on and they were just hanging out until things got started. They play EQ2, but they didn't know when things kicked off.

There was a sign up saying that stuff started at 9:30, but I figured registration had to start before that. The doors to the conference rooms were open so I decided to tour the first room. There were a bunch of tables set up, and around the walls of the room were banners with Server and class names for both EQ and EQ2. There was also a big banner for the new expansion coming out.

So I go on to the next room. There's about 10 people in there and it looks much the same except for the big Antonia Bayle contest display which was taking place that morning.

So this dude comes up to me as I'm looking around and asks if he can help me. I tell him the deal. I'm looking for like a day pass because I'm leaving the next morning and I'd like to check out what was going on that day. He tells me to come back around 10-10:30 and it'll be $100. At that point I turned, walked out and went to bed. Woke up at 3pm, went to eat, then went to a karaoke bar.

And that guys and ghouls, is my EQ fan fair experience.

Why Vegas?

They would better do Fan Faires in Idaho, where nothing happened since the Civil War.

PS: I know, Idaho didnt exist these days.

I agree, while Vegas is definetly alluring, there's alot of competition there for something like Fanfaire. Personally unless it was next door and free, I can't see going out of my way to goto Fanfaire. I've definetly give SOE enough of my time and money to justify not giving them anymore of either. Conversely, I live an hour from Disney World, so if my guild or whatever *wanted* to get together there or New Orleans or something, I'd do that.

I understand what you are saying, if I was in Vegas I would be hard pressed to spend time at Fanfaire. I love the game (most of the time) and it is getting a lot more fun now that I am getting close to 70, but in Vegas I might find a few more things worthy of my entertainment.

Idaho, that there's Napoleon Dynamite country...Heck yes it is!

In Preston Idaho they have a billboard that states "There is a little Napoleon in us all" - and I just went to their Web site and found Napoleon Dynamite Fest 2005 (http://www.prestonidaho.org/pics.htm)!!!

Hell, I live in vegas and didn't go. I thought about it but decided to go golfing =)
and hang out at the bar with some dancer friends ...
$100 is just ridiculous.
(even though I probably spent $200 on other stuff)
