.. so your topic is a question rather than the answer. I hope someone answers this. I worked on this skill for awhile and I got as far as the reinforced stuff you use with steel boning.. That's all the farther I got.

I am up to LoY robes and make Robe of Ellipse with ease now and have made 1 Robe of Abrogation in 5 attempts......so about even for the cost vs. resale value.
BTW.....until you can make the high end robes.....the others sell for so little, I tend to give better that half away.......every INT caster in my Guild that does not have better (alts included) wears a Robe of Ellipse and every INT caster (non-twinked) I ever see in Nektulos gets a free Robe of Wings. There are more damn DE's running around the Torv Server wearing a Najena look-a-like robe that it is just too funny......must have passed out 100 or better.
My advice.......farm or merchant pharm acrylia pieces and farm the skins to make acrylia armor. So far as I can see, your best bet to getting to GM if that is your desire.
Can't tell you how to get to where I am currently at because other than making lots of Wu's for Guildies and Backpacks for /auc, I forget what methods I actually used.......but I did merchant pharm a lot........wyrven hides can be purchased for 13 plat off npcs but flawless rockhopper cost about 6 gold.....if you get lucky enough to find them.
Good luck and visit this site....one of my favorites:

I don't know the exact levels of the Rockhoppers in DSP, but at 56 some of them were still DarkBlue. So if you are around 50ish farming these for the hides are a source of Exp also. Just something to think about if you are like me and enjoy farming. I figure that {everQUEST} is more than just leveling fast.

First of all Shadow what's your skill at?? My suggestion to save some time and money is to farm(yes you may dread it and hate) in East Karanas for spider silks--Crag Spiders drop 0-8 silks. My ratio of silks per hour was about 200 silks per hour or more, and I do not use a character with track. The other spiders tend to drop 0-5(be warned of a 50+ named giant that stalks the region). Next get some brewing gonna need it to make Heady Kiolas--real cheap and easy skill via vendors. After 152 of wu's I'm sorry but by then you are definetly gonna have to ship out some cash or farm alot.

Easy way to Master Tailoring I just used which is also very inexpensive
1) Silk Swatch = Spider Silk + Spider Silk = Trivals at 15
Keep the swatches as they will be used later on
2) Tattered Mask = Ruined Cat Pelt + Mask Pattern = Trival at 26
Mask Patterns can be bought in Shadow Haven near the Bazaar zoneline
*** Get a skinning knife and you can combine and quality pelt to eventually make a Ruined Cat Pelt ***
3) Raw Silk Mask = Silk Swatch + Mask Pattern = Trival 36
4) Woven Mandrake = Mandrake Root + Mandrake Root = Trivals at 66
You can buy mandrake root from shaman potion vendor for about 2pp each
5) Cured Silk Mask = Heady Kiola + Mask Pattern + Silk Swatch = Trivals at 82
Kiola can be bought in the bazzar cheaply or you can make it by combine 2 packets of Heady Kiola saps + Bottle + Water in a Brewing Cask. You get the bottle in return if it fails and trivals at 46 in Brewing trade
6) Tailored Quiver = High Quality Cat Pelt + Quiver Pattern = Trivals at 115
At this point you are already a Master Tailor
Haven't gone beyond this point yet but at i believe my next step would be to make Wu's Fighting Mask which trivals at 135

There are several sites which have helpped me with trading skills, I'm presently working on trading skills for the shawl quests. My tailoring is presently 115. I'm gathering zombie skins to make poison vials to then make vicious mana (have access to a 33rd lvl enc to do this part, its a 12th lvl spell and uses a pearl), then have to make heady kiola again brewing trival at 46 I think, to then make Wu's. If pottery isn't high enuf for the poison vials you can buy them and save on the zombie skin farming. But I need it for the shawl quest so am doing both.
Check out www.eqtraders.com its a really good site for skill information and boards and forms to give you info on easy ways to do skills. Unfortunely, tailoring is the single most farming skilly you have to work on, you just have to break down and do it sometimes.
If wu's isn't for you, you can go and fram crystalline silks and do those, I've just have a ton of the spider silk already so was going to use wu's would do the others if you have high lvl characters that can do those. Anyhow the site has links and lots of information for you.

Firs of all, if you really and truly hate to farm materials, DON'T take up tailoring. Do something like fletching, that you can basically do to 250 on vendor bought itmes. Tailoring requires the most farmed parts of the 5 tradeskills I've worked on.
If you're still interested in tailoring, choose your evil - farming or high bazaar prices. It's going to be one or the other, there's almost nothing you can make from vendor bought items. If you just want to do the least farming possible, the first thing you should do is get a list of tailored items and head to the bazaar... check the prices ingredients and tailored items are selling for. If you're looking to avoid farming, you're going to want to sell things you make from the beginning to be able to afford the more rare drops in the bazaar later.
I recommned the spider silk route, beacuse I found it to be a bit easier/cheaper than the crystalline silk route. DON'T waste your spider silks on raw silk armor. DON'T bother with the patchwork armor, move straight into Leather Padding (which actually sells in the bazaar on most servers) and then studded armor mask then cured silk mask, then backpack, reinforced armor mask (you have other choices here that are the same cost, but why not keeping going with the mask? :) ) then move on to the quiver.
Here's where to choose to go with spider silks or crystalline silks (- in my case because the viscous mana was selling cheaper than the crystalline silks and I could always twist an enchanter friend's arm to make me some more easier than I could go farm the crystalline silks, I went with wu's - also, the spider silks are easier and faster to farm) If spider silks then make Wu's gear (this stuff actually does sell in the bazaar too). In this order: collar, mask, cap, mantle, sleeves, pantaloons, shirt you use the least parts. make the folded bearskin potion bag, then whichever higher level golden ribbon (167) you can get dye for easiest, then platinum ribbon (again with whatever dye you can get easily), acrylia studded mask, robe and/or fleeting quiver (the quiver sells well), and acrylia reinforced mask.
I recommend against using a skinning knife this route because you will just be shooting yourself later for ruining the higher quality pelts you need on the next item.
IMO this route takes you up with the most items readily available on vendors and in the bazaar, and makes the items that sell back to other players the easiest/for the best price. The acrylia and rockhopper hides are going to drive you crazy no matter what though  250pp for a pelt on a good day on my server.
Also, spend some time talking to greenies xping where stuff you want drops. It's easy to get some really good deals on their stuff.
Finally, I saw East Karana mentioned for spider silks... for pelts I'd reocommend RM. There's one hill there that has tons of bears... just run the circle killing them, and there'll be a never ending supply of fresh bear pelts of all qualities, including the thick grizzly bear skins. Plus it's usually empty there cuz everyone just thinks giants in RM.
Good luck to you and hopefully we've all scared you off of tailoring by now :D

Too bad they put the sell back costs for tradeskill items down to make the profits even lower on a recent patch

There's an easy way to get your skill up to 95 or so: go to Marus Seru, summon a pet, and slaughter all the hoppers there. Most drop hopper hides, and many drop LQ hopper hides: the hopper hides can be used to make hopper-hide armor (one hide plus a pattern, AFAIR), and the LQ hides can be used for leather padding to make a few plat on the side, or to save away for smithing. If you're 44+ your biggest problem will be finding enough hoppers to kill, as they'll be trivial for the pet... probably even for lower-level pets.
Alternatively, if you have about 1k plat to spare you can get to 70-ish with purely vendor-purchased components making picnic basket parts.
I am currently at 190 in tailoring and making my dark elf cultural robes (Ellipse, Cyclone, Burnishing, and Wings) - these are all sold back at a loss, except Ellipse but the Ashen Dye is hard to come by on Stromm.
I am also making Acrylia Reinforced and I dont farm my items. I think I'll give the Hoppers in DSP a shot now though, the Flawless hides are selling for 350p+ in the bazaar and its getting very expensive.
After 200 Im probably gonna go with Black Panther and Tigeraptor pieces and some Ceremonial Solstice Robes.
