Leetil

For a little bit of background, My main is a 55 Druid. I originally made her with the intention of using her to make plat to then make a necro. I made about 10k from various tradeskills and quest items, and have made a Gnomish Necro. Leetil is now level 25 and I'm starting to experiment with how a necro works. I'm used to root/doting and kiting. I have started trying to fear kite and agro/pet kite, but so far have had a hard time with it. Pet tanking and me tanking for the pet are ok, but i end up with little to no mana after the fight, and the down time is horrible.

So, getting to the point where should a new 25 necro go to practice agro kiting and fear kiting?

I tried both in Meru Seru, but most mobs are yellow and red, and are social. I have thought about DSP, but again, the mobs are yellow and red, and social. Both places I end up with very little mana, and I have been unwilling to get Clarity, since I hear that our hp to mana conversion is better.

Any help on where to hunt at 25 would be great and much appreciated.

Echo Caverns - needlites. Use your damage shield.

That should easily take you to 29 - worry about kiting then =D

Though I second Aziroth's idea I chuckle that he didn't tell you the whole story. ;) Tanking needlites is a proven way to level and working on your defense. The latter being the main reason for the needlites camp imho.

That aside you probably will have a hard time kiting mana efficient even with call of bones (next lich for you and first with skeleton illusion). The thing you need to think about is is how fast do you want that mob dead! If you unload all your dots on the poor mob it won't live very long. Neither will your mana.;) So you need to find a balance between killing time and spending your mana. That point is even valid at 70. Just experiment with the spells you have. After all kiting is easy. :)

IMO the late 20s suck.

Once you get Dooming Darkness (real snare) and Invoke Fear (real fear) you will sail into the 50s.

Hang in there.

For the record...

1-24= Easy, one day, at least.

24-30 ish = easy, Needlites

30 - 34 or so, still pretty easy, hit gunthak beach and whatnot, etc etc

Basically up to 52 EQ is super super easy.

What really sucks is low fifties, that's the *hump* - once you get past that, you're home free to just grind horribly...

You do mean solo, right?

There is only one set of Needlites per Server.. I never got mine.

Gunthak at 30 alone might be ouchie.. not sure. I spent 30 to 33 trying to Fear kite with my one tick level 4 Fear spell and frustrated.

34 to the mid 50s were a rush of Fear kiting madness. I became social. Nothing to do but watch mobs die.

I meant 30 - 34 is still easy, then you hit up gunthak beach, and whatnot... Dreadlands later, echo caverns in there somewhere...

Yeah, solo, o.O we're necros =P

I really, really, really hated low fifties...

Low 50's are cake on the boats in dulak once you get the system down. Katta was also an EXP bomb at the time I was there.

Honestly I would not worry about agro kiting until you cannot use fear anymore. If you read some guides on here you will find several camps where you can fear kite until 57 or 58. Fear kiting is more mana efficient, so it will help you kill things faster. It sounds like you will not have a lot of FT, and our lich is not that great until you can get demi lich at 57(somewhere around 57 at least) so you will want to be as efficient as possible with your mana. Therefore besure to fear kite just to move you through the levels a little faster.

And do not worry about learning to agro kite at higher levels. It is really simple. Just be sure to get enough agro on yourself before you send your pet in.

The only thing that sucks now is that Echo is a "hotspot" and is insanely full(or at least on The Nameless) and people won't share. I'm the necro that likes grouping, so i always walk around with my lfg on. If i wanted to solo all the time i'd play Neverwinter Nights.

I spent a lot of my 30s in Great Divide practicing fearkiting on Tizmaks. If you pull them away from the caves first, then fear, they'll run south into the valley which is usually empty of any mobs. South Karana is another good place for this, with Gnolls and Aviaks in abundance, but more chance of adds aggro. Same for The Overthere, depending on your faction needs (I yo-yo kited Sarnaks by the dozens before I started workign on Chardok faction, d'oh)

hmm fear kited skyfire ramp in overthere 30-35 then went and fearkited hill giants in rathe till oo 40ish.. then went and fear kited forest giants in burning woods till 52... i was sick of giants by then!

As ahs been said its pretty steady xp till low-mid 50's where it dries a little (I actually grouped to relieve my unnatural aversion to giants) then 55 is cake again with PoN now. (I didnt have PoP when i was young you lucky lucky ppl)

I tried aggro against fear kiting and personally think that at lower levels the mana regen is so "poor" that fear is a better method. Learn the skills (its not hard run away refresh dot run away) but fear alows you med time. Once youve been at a camp for a while you will know which direction the mobs going to run so get pretty efficient.

PS new fear spells... I dont have em so cant comment. I cant imagine by 60+ they make life any easier than aggro kiting tbh

Lake of Ill Omen is so easy at this level it's sick. You can aggro-kite, fear-kite, tap-tank, whatever you want, and there's a lovely house of undead for your pleasure.

plus if you aren't friendly in Cabilis and want to work on skullcaps(like i'm doing) you can Sarnaks of every flavor and raise your legion faction so guards won't use you as a punching bag.

For the low 30's, both on my Berk main and on my new Nec, I have found that the Thurgadin Mines are great xp, and very safe. In the first area, fear kite or just pet tank with a temp'd pet and 3% off of a white, 1-2% off a dark blue. Loot from a few cp to a couple pp. If you have a partner, then the lower areas have a good number of mobs. No undead, but Boil Blood, Dooming Darkness, Vampiric Curse and maybe a Spirit Tap, and bam, dead mob. The Vampiric Curse works well to off-set the Call of Bones price. After they become too easy, or not worth it, OT is great also. Nice thing about the mines is that you have a whole city right there. Fear kiting is possible, but guards may kill the mobs. I don't know because, well, I burn the mana rather then risk it.

Around level 34 you can solo the Ice Giants in Ever Frost. ( just make sure you invis on the way there) The IG's range from 38 - 42 and drop some pretty nice plat. The IG's are located near the Permafrost ZL. These are perfect to learn how to fear kite. First you root (FD if it fails), then hit with Dooming Darkness then two other dots of you choice then sit. Wait till root breaks and send pet with taunt OFF. Run down the hallway till you reach the other IG by the PF ZL( but not too close). Right before he hits you hit him with fear to send him back the other way and immediatly cast dooming again and other dots if needed. Just keep fearing him back and forth from the ent to the camp to the back room. I like to call it fear ponging. :D

Well thats just my 2 cents!
