I have a small black drum Drogmor, (the cheapest). I'm wondering because of someone asking me if I like the extra mana regen from it. I've never heard anything like this before about mounts, do they or do they not make mana come back faster than sitting? And also the most expensive drum or bridal per say, I've heard these are bard speed, is this true? If so, since I have no means of movement increasing spells, I think I'll buy one. Thanks again.

No, mounts to not provided extra mana regen on top of sitting. But in many situations you cannot sit for long periods of time enough to make it efficient anyways.

Dunno about run speed, never saved up enough to buy the 100k one, I always get greedy and splurge.

I think what your friend meant was that you get mana regen as if you were sitting but you aren't really when on a mount. You can cast and whatnot (I think, haven't been in game a long time). So, you really are getting extra mana as opposed to when you are sitting.

Just a thought.

I agree as far as it being me have the benefit of sitting while casting, I think it does kind of shroud the fact that you dont have to sit between fights and you can keep the lich line of spells on all the time. It does make mana regen faster in a way, because your always getting the benefit of sitting, I was pretty sure that there was no bonus because everyone would be after a mount just for that reason. If anyone knows how fast the 100k mounts are please post, I value that information more than any cause us necros are slow. Heheh...

Mounts allow you to mediate as if you were sitting down, except while casting a spell. But health increases as if you were standing. So for a necro its only useful if you are moving alot, if you aren't moving around then put the thing away and when you are in a camp and have lich on you.

I dont think you regen mana any quicker on a mount over sitting, although it probably hasnt been tested officially, its mostly based on ones perception. I think it is about the same.. I have horse on cleric, and drog for nec, but I have never noticed a significant difference between sitting and mount meditation..

As far as speed is concerned, the only mount that is as fast as bards selos, cannot be bought, it is dropped.. and it drops off Lord Seru and or Emp from SSRa.. those horses are AS fast as bards selos and are the fastest mounts in game..Unless you're in a guild who has done the necessary timesink to kill Seru, or have the keys and power to kill the emp, you're never gonna see that horse no matter how much money you have. The 100 k horse/drogmor is about as fast as sow.. the middle class drog/horse is about as fast as run3.. for all intensive purposes, Id just go with the cheapie for the sit/med thing.. FD is really nice if u draw aggro :P

I think it goes like this

Rope: Run1
Leather: Run3
Silk: Sow
Chain: >Sow+ but <Selos
Ornate chain (emp seru, emp ssra): slightly less than selos

Ornate chain and the AA horses for pally's (Holy Steed) and Sk's (Unholy Steed) are the same or very close.

I have the most expensive horse you can BUY and my son can outrun me on his bard with selos and a very good drum. I am however much faster than SoW and have never found a mob that could catch me so I dont care.

The benefits for casters having a mount are

1) No sitting agro while on your horse
2) Mana regen of sitting, but with the ability to move and cast while mounted.
3) Faster movement - depends on horse or drogmor.

The Cons

1) Cost - A chain horse can run you up to 100kpp
2) Slow starting and stopping. This is marginalized with the faster horses on the starting. The stopping could still be an issue.
3) Can't cast in indoor zones.

Horse Vs. Drogmor

Horse
Pro
1) Looks cool.
2) Smoother movement than Drogmoor

Con
1) Head gets in the way of targetting

Drogmoor
Pro
1) No head to get in the way of targetting

Con
1) Rough run movement

My giant black drum(fastest droggy) is *almost* as fast as selos, and a bit slower then the AA knight horses. I still believe nothing is = selos.

Well sounds like the fastest mounts can be useful, but by my own experience the horses suck as for any class that needs to target something (all). The head gets in the way something aweful, but sounds like the drogs and horse are equal in speed. Only major problem I have with drogs is the fact on a long journey you may end up with a stomach ache from watching the screen bounce up and down... 100k could buy a lot of things... and I already have the slowest.... I dunno its a hard choice, maybe I should just look for flowing thought items. :P

Doh! I just thought of something that could change around the whole thing... Now I have had a bard and I have a ranger so I've fooled with both speed increasers. Bard is no doubt faster, but, are we talking about maxed out spells here? Like a lvl 65 druid sow and a lvl 65 bard selos? Because if a mount is anywhere close to the speed of a 65 bard I would crap my pants. Anyway, with that last bit of information I will make my decision... oh that fateful decision. One thing I have almost changed my mind on is the type of mount, horses provide so much more of a smooth ride it almost makes me think they are faster. But there is that head in the way again. Also, unless they fixed it, you could go invis on a horse and then take the effect off and your horse would stay invis. Oh well, post some more ideas, plenty of peeps would like all this information cleared up lol.

Well, the whole targetting issue could be averted using hot keys. Use the F# keys to target a group member and then have a /assist hotkey. As far as targeting a corpse, it's still a little bit of an issue with a drogmor, and the running is annoying as hell. If you know where you are going, you can always use Page Down to look at the ground while your running and use Backspace to bring up the zone map if you have LoY. The maps are great and I suggest getting LoY if you don't have it just for that fact...

talk to soemone in game who has a horse drop from Inquisitor Seru, or the Emp of SSRA.. speed is faster than the 100 k horse/drogmor, and just slightly slower than selo's.. but not noticably..

I get most of the info from friends who have them and have raced..

Hmmm, looks like I'm better off to keep my money for now. I do have FD if I get into trouble, it would be nice to get around that fast though. Guess I'll just kinda compare the pros and cons and figure it out later. I have all the info now so it makes it easier.

Something I should have made clear is that you cant BUY the ornate chain horses. They are the ones that drop from Emp Seru and Emp Ssra. The highest you can buy on the horse is the chain.. not ornate chain.

Re: Mana Regen

While sitting on a mount, you gain the benefit of having your Meditation score (well, 1/10th of it, anyways) added to your mana regen. At high levels, this is an extra 25 mana/tick (for Meditation 252). Not chump change.

More on mana regen here (http://www.necrotalk.com/index.php?showtopic=313). (Ignore the shaman trolling.)

Re: Horse Mount

I have yet to try this on my mount, but I've heard that getting shrunk while on a horse removes the horse's head, and lets you benefit from being on a mount, without having the damn horse's head in your way. Has anyone tried this? If this is true, I'll be hitting up the guild tinkers for a shrinking device. :)
