Teh POI Hinge

Ok,

I've slaughtered the entire zone of POI around the factory, starting from the entrance, going left and looping around back to the right side entrance. Killing EVERY Scrap collector along the way.

I've done this countless times, for countless hours with RL friend and 8 toons total.

So far. Nothing. WTF is that all about?

We even had a Druid tracker in the group. All bots but me are lvl 70, so we make it around the entire zone in 15 mins for respawns. So I know were getting all the scrap collectors for ourselves.

Is there a secret voodoo incantation I must do over the scrap metal before I search the damn things in order to make this thing drop?

I'm about to just quit it all. I've got everything to complete my epic 1.5 including the raid force.......this damn hinge just continues to allude me...

Oh, and slap me in the face with terrifying taunts everytime I zone into POI.

Mark my words, once it drops, I'll NEVER set foot into that god damn zone again.

I just cleared 10 or so mobs deep on both sides of the zone in for days. Got it on my 8th or so scrap collector kill :)

Bring yon raid force to the zone with you and clear the whole thing, that should make it go faster.

you'll kill mobs fast and someone will wack the gnome before you get to the dragon anyway, so it won't take too long :P

That's pretty bad luck, when I did it, I was in POI all but 30 mins and got my hinge. Then SOE made me pay for my good luck by having to camp Torgiran Mines for 4 days killing trolls around the bridge for the dang gleaming zraxthil ore when most get theirs under 2 hrs :rolleyes:

Seems like you either get it right away, or your cursed to camp the hinge for the long run.

For the most part, we are a raid force. We cut through the entire ring of the zone in about 15 mins. Druid tracks them all, and we kill em.

I've killed about 75 of them thus far....

And no hinge.

It took me over 40 kills, maybe 60 or so, lost count at some point. Finally dropped for me 2 mobs from the zone in despite cherry picking the zone for I can't remember how long. On the bright side I leveled about 2/3 of level 69 soloing light blues there. Just keep going...

i killed every damn mob moving his metal ass in this f... zone for 28 hours in total.

then i got a call from a newbie group at entrance: "hinge rotting")

afterwards this day i went on a pretty senseless poi raid for our alts: this clockwork dragon, forgot the name.

on our way to this freak, just a 10 min move and a few dozens of mobs, i saw 2 (in words: TWO) hinge rotting.

honestly, it can become worse)

The f***g hinge eluded me as well back in the day when i did my 1.5 ...was in PoI for the whole week few hours per day. Few days after i got mine we did a chanter fight in PoI 2-3 damn things dropped lol ...

On the other hand a friend of mine for his hinge off 1st scrapp collector. :D

I got mine on about the 4th scrap collector I killed, while several friends on the server killed the bastards countless times before getting theres. When I was there later getting gate neck drops for my sk, like 2 or 3 more rotted in a time of 30ish minutes.

I just sat my ass next to a ZL group, told them what i was after, and made a hotkey that twitched their cleric.

did housework for 2 hours pressing my twitch hotkey every 10 min or so (3 twitchs, not alot but was enough to keep them killing nonstop). Cleric started spamming me vtells when it finally droped.

that was after me and a mage duoed the ring 2 or 3 times around lol

i hate long camps, and PoI is kinda empty these days... so i use the find, flop and root rot method... once when i log on and once when i log off... only about ten collectors a day... slow, but less painful (and some killer trains in the process)

duoed with a pally then a rogue last night for about three hours... nothing... logged on this a.m. and two collectors were near factory entrance... clear trash, pull one, nothing... pull number two... hinge! pally hunting time!!

I killed a bunch with no luck until a friend suggested I park over by the small building down the path to the right of the zone in. I started clearing that area out and had a hinge within about two hours. Probably just coincidence but you might try it.

I think I am going on week two in PoI.. actually I can't really remember anymore but is seems like forever ><

I have been going in with a ranger also so we have been tracking. I don't think that we are missing any, but still....

NO FREAKING HINGE :angry:

I got 2 in under an hour. I hung a left at the zl and didn't go too far in. The zl was camped so I stayed a bit of a distance away from them so they still had mobs to pull. I just kept killing in that spot until the scrap collector would spawn. It spawned quite often. I did get my hinge from the zl because I asked the group there if I could check for loot. Then another dropped at camp for my necro friend. I think it's easier to stay in one spot and keep killing until scrap collectors pop rather than trying to clear the whole zone.

Just to add to the spectrum of "possible".. I have seen approximately one every 1-1.5 hours clearing "around the circle" in the evenings for Saltpeter.

That's 4 so far.

I am killing everything that moves. Heads up re: the metallic slime that is basically immune to spells.. that was an "oops' the first time.

yeah...that's a big circle...with far too many mobs to clear.

I did this all the times I camped this zone with a group of 6. Ate right through them.

But my group is always raiding now, so I am left to solo.

Lost Soul can tank one.. I tank the other when two come, too lazy to split. Been as many as four now and then (with roamers), then I kite.

Better with a full groups DPS, sure.. but.. 100% do-able alone. I go around once most nights.

Edit: The Noam is right (below).. but I am there for Saltpeter pharming. Since I don't *want* the Hinge, I get more.. don't you know anything about Epic drops?

You can also find a mob mostly alone, and then fd at its feet, wait for agro to clear, and then stand and and kill it. Sometimes you get 2 but you can pick where you fd.

I went to PoI looking for saltpeter. Hinge dropped in about an hour, got about 2 saltpeters in 5 hours. My advice, go there with the intent to farm saltpeter and you'll get the hinge to drop. Go there to farm the hinge and you'll get saltpeter to drop.

That is a sad Saltpeter drop rate. I kinda expect 10-20 an hour to drop usually. I went weeks and months without the hinge, now I get it at least once ever PoI trip :angry: . Your best bet seriously is to contact someone who does not want the hinge who is farming PoI, they'll get it all the time.

Got the hinge last night off the third scrap collector I killed (while farming for saltpeter). So the theory of going to farm and getting the hinge works. ;)

Felicite's map is superlative for the purposes of harvesting saltpeter or finding the hinge. Three of us pillaged the hinge for about a couple hours the other night with no luck, but we did get 20+ saltpeter. We took down the metallic slime with three of us - mage/nec/dru. Incredibly, stupidly, totally(?) MR. The pets, however, had a field day making like blenders.

I got my hinge a day later, while I was coding a program for school - my wife went a-hunting and got a hinge to drop just past the factory. I logged in, invis'd up, and skated past the single SI repop to pick it up.

Haven't done the turn in yet.

I'm just angry cause I wanted her to do some MMs with me last night before the stupid patch today. But she wouldn't cause of that f-ing hinge. I kept telling her that the hinge would be there today and the exp for mm wouldn't but she insisted that she was getting the hinge and damn it all she did. <_<

It was suggested to me to try the "bedroom' area, and I got all three in one clear. The area I am talking about is all the way on the west side of the map from when you zone in. There is a hallway that has 4 rooms (with beds in them) off of it and one larger room at the end of the hall. There are 2 or 3 mobs in each room.

I've been levelling a shadowknight in PoI with my Shaman watching over him since level 54. He's now 56 and has spent about a month in PoI. Finally the other night the hinge dropped for me. So I logged off the SK and logged on my Necro and looted it. The mob was in the second camp to the right of the entrance.

I did 2 clearings of the Bridge area and got 2 ores before I was wisked away to some halloween events. I will go back soon and see if I can't get the other 2. Maybe a rendezvous in the Bedroom is in order :ph34r:
