Okay, I have yet to do this quest myself but I have read up on it.
Basically as necro's we have 2 options. (I believe Iksar necros only have one option):
1. Kill Sarnak Berserkers and turn in their war braids to captain Rottgrime(The guy training the skelly army in OT). You need to get Amiable with the quest mob, so be ready to turn in 200ish braids to raise your faction high enough. I think this could be a huge pain in the ass, as not all of them drop braids, the braids dont stack, and theyre nodrop.
2. The second option looks ALOT more reasonable. It involves us charming the quest mob "The Undead Foreman", and giving him the required Jade he requests. In return he will give you the Worker Sledgemallet (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=473). A few things to know before you attempt this: a. The undead foreman has VERY high resists. So I wouldnt attempt this until youre 50+. As I have not yet tried it, I'm not sure if it will work solo, you may need an enchanter or somone who can debuff their MR ALOT. secondly, if you do charm him, turn in the jade as fast as you can, because I hear it doesnt last long at all. If you get adds when you charm him you may have to pull him out of the city fiegn splitting, or with help. Either way if you can stick a charm to him and turn in a jade, this will help you around having to turn in countless war braids. ALSO, this is the ONLY way Iksaar's can do this quest, that I know of.
P.S. This procs at level 50, and dont worry about your 2hb skill, its based on dex...even if you miss.
GREAT tool for camping....bind at your phat l00tz camp, then use hammer to bank your l00tz.
Good luck. I'm gonna try this tonight I believe, to make sure the charm strategy still works. If anyone has anything to add please do!

did sledgehammer last nite. A jade drop while i was messing around in unrest and I thought, you know I should do the slegemallet thing. So i beboped over to Overthere, loaded up Thrall of bones, and charmed the foreman, he can running over like any loyal pet would. I handed him the jade clicked ok and wallah, the mallet was mine. Just 1 or 2 seconds later, the charm broke and he started hitting on me with his whip. Does about 150hp per hit. I Feigned death and waited a minute to assure agro was wipped, and I was on my way.
The most important thing I can say is this:
1. You should probably be 54 at least before doing this (im 61)
2. The charm is Very short lived. I had my Jade out and ready to turn in once he was charmed. I've read where sometime charms breaks after just a few seconds.
3. Have FD ready.
4. If you do get aggro and just cant FD you can always run to the POK stone, but this is a risky proposition.

i did this quest during my 30s and 40s (so i could get exp while working on it)
took a lotta braids im pretty sure it was 120 or 140 or someting like that many braids to turn in.... but its not as hard as it seems if you're getting exp while doing it.... so yeah thats my point, if you're gonna do this quest you might as well do it while you can exp at the same time... oh yes and turning in the braids and killing the zerkers hurts chardok faction if you're concerned with that (i.e the dizok ring quests)

I tried to do the charm method at 51 and got promptly flattened faster than I could FD... so I looked into the braid method for faction.
There's a set of Sarnak ruins in OT (around n1500 p500 IIRC) with 8-10 static spawn sarnaks on a fast timer (maybe 5-6 minutes at a guess). About 1/3 of the mobs end up being Berzerkers and it was much easier than tracking them.
It was pretty much clearing greenies at 51 (tho there were enough light light blues that I got a smidgin of XP) but I did it for a little while whenever I had a little time to kill and it wasn't nearly the chore I thought it would be to get the faction for the mallet.

Is there anyway to get braids to the capt. if you are threatingly. I screwed up my faction and forgot all about the mallet quest.
Other question when you gate to overthere where does it put you, by the water?

The landing spot in overthere is in the boat (at least it was 2 years ago, before I screw my faction there and stop using it), near the skellie workers , on the right end shore.

As far as I can tell, every berserker I've fought in OT carries and drops the braid. Sometimes it's not on the body, but that's because someone in my party disarmed it during the fight. It's usually pretty close and easy to spot on the ground.

Question about the Charm method. As soon as I read this thread I logged on ran to OT and cast ED on the Undead Foreman. Gave him the Jade and got my Workers Sledgemallet. I cast FD waited for him to reset and was off to all the newbie zones to beat on spiders and such.
Can you group with a lev 50 Necro and have them give the Jade and get the Sledgemallet after you have charmed the Foreman?

Ok i dont understand how the charm method works.
I had a 54 necro charm the foreman for me.
I am a 38 necro with apprehensive faction.
He charmed it, i conned mob and it was indifferent (charmed).
I turned in the jade and he did not give me the hammer (was still charmed when i gave the jade). Whats up with that?
I received no hammer...

From what I understand, and don't quote me on this, you can't be Indifferent, you have to be Amiable. If not, he will take your Jade all day long but never cough up the Worker Sledgemallet.
Charm only makes you indifferent, it doesn't do a "faction increase across the board" like I understand the spell Alliance does.

If you charm something, it cons amiable to you. If someone else charms something, it cons indfferent to you.
So, you need to be able to charm the mob yourself to make it amiable to you, which is the minimum faciton required to get the hammer.

I did this just the other day using the 53 charm. It took 5 or 6 casts before it stuck and I could turn in the jade. Either take an enchanter friend or can keep em mezzed, or root him while you chain charm.

Hehe did this today at 54, only took 2 casts before it stuck - rushed to throw the jade at him and had no issues at all with timing -> on a side note even though at 54 non of the other mobs will actually agro on you, agro is passed throughout the fort... so when you fd breaking charm... if you don't wait the full 2 minutes for the "your enemies have forgotten you" you will have an interesting time. ie. the foreman went back and reset so I got up and decided to try out my new hammer... only to look over and see a rather large amount of beings chacing me... or maybe it was just a few and I was dazzled by the site of the cliff golem taking chunks of my health =)

Congrats on your new hammer. I tried today and foreman creamed me. Thrall resisted, tried to root him but resisted root too. FD failed. Bah, lost my 54 in the process.
How do I go about this - should I wait a level or 2? Not really interested in waisting essence emeralds on my rezzes =)

i was wondering this myself... i have the hammer but shot my faction recently hunting KC... i'm wondering if an illusion potion of some other evil race would at least bring me to apprehensive?
for the moment i just make sure i have dmf up when i gate, run out over the water and FD to lose aggro from the skellie
btw, when i did the hammer as a DE it took me 88 braids from an unmodified base faction... probably 4-5 hours total for this hunting the ruins mentioned above
