It is my understanding that when you dire charm a mob, its effective damage is reduced. Can anyone confirm this or know by how much? An example of what you charmed and its max damage would help as well. Also, I would imagine that the hit points of the mob remain constant, meaning if the mob has 6k HP before you charm it will still have 6k after you charm.
I am going to finish up SCM3 either today or tomorrow and was thinking on getting Pet Hold or Suspend Minion, keep in mind I don't raid, solo frequently, and group occasionally, if you decide to recommend my next AA choice.
Based on the responses from my DC questions, I may take it if it improves my overall damage output.

Unless you have a reall need for the pet discipline/hold/suspend I would first go for the 9th spell slot (mneumonic retention) and then work on doing your Critical Affliction (+3% dps per level) aa's for more dot power. But that is just me.
and from my understanding, unless they totally revamp dire charm, or you plan on staying <65 for a while there is no reason to get dire charm as it is basically useless post 65 (although might be fun).

Already have the 9th spell gem, and I love it. However, I can't work on Critical Affliction till 65. I have a pretty good xp spot and wanted to milk some AAs while I'm there and then move on to 65 where I'll stay for a bit and get some more AAs. It's just my play style and I am a casual gamer.

It's not even fun.. I want my 9 points back.
I never see anything to Dire. And even if I could find one, it's too low level to do much to anything.
I two times I found something to Dire in Veksar, I feigned in the next five minutes breaking my charm.
If they raised the maximum level (a lot).. maybe.
Edit: Swift Journey 2 is just 1 point more than Dire Charm..

Doh, sorry didn't see it in your magelo - and for some reason thought you could do CA earlier (was thinking it was like 61,63,65 for the levels)
Well if you are wanting to sit there for xp, then go for it :) I was in no hurry to get out of 65 so that I could get a few of the essential aa's down.
Thought I think before I even do my pet tricks (might break down to get it so I can log back in with same pet), I would do ND3, Combat Agility3 - just would get more use out of them really. Though they would be on my first 100-150ish aas to get.

Yeah, I haven't done a magelo update since getting the 9th gem. I think you and Felicite have confirmed my fears with DC, and I probably won't get it. I always did think level 51 (I think that is the DC cap) was fairly low.
I think I'll just finish up SCM3 and make a run for 65. I could really use the new DoTs actually. Anyone know of a way I could solo a spectral parchment? I don't have embracing darkness yet. My play times are very wacky and sporadic that it's tough to get into groups for me.

I would not get dire charm. My opinion is that a solo necro will use FD or a low lvl pet to pet pull mobs in order to single them. Both of which will be impossible with a DC pet.
I would be inclined to spend the aa on the suspend minion ll aa which would allow you to save your pet with all buffs and pet toys intact after you log. I benefit from this greatly in the respect that if Im camping something I know that I can suspend pet, log in the next day and still have a fully buffed pet with toys to play with. No more running to the bazaar everytime you want pet toys and no more /ooc for CV in PoK. Save at least an hour there.
Instead, you camp out in a safe spot in the area you are camping. Log in the next day with a fully buffed pet and be ready to go. =)

If you disliked 51.. you're going to love 46 (the Dire Charm limit).
Edit: SCM3 is job one.
Edit edit: Drunder and Halls of Honor will yield Spectrals over time.. and very soloable (or catch me awake *winks*)

And as Felicite said, HoH for those specs - just make sure to have a sow so that if your snares get resisted (and they will) that you have some breathing room to get in more casts.
Here is a discussion with links to other guides as well:

Hmmm, you think Fabled JBoots are fast enough? If not, I guess I could purchase some SoW potions. As a quick benchmark, are the mobs in HoH basement as fast as or faster than the Golems in PoV? Cause they move pretty fast, even with the Fabled Jboots.
*Edit* Thanks for the link, gonna do some reading.

A SoW was plenty, so a Fabled should work just fine (? ~5% of full maxxed SoW potion?). Though if you can spring for it, just buy embracing in the bazaar and it will make your experience there 10x better... that way when you get your spec drops you can resell embracing back in the bazaar :)

Hmm... My take on Dire Charm:

Your 9 aa's can be better spent.
Ns... Especially these days...
That AA has always been crap, these days it's just... crappier. If you want to charm something, charm something with a real charm. If you don't like your charm breaking, don't charm then. If you're afraid you'll die when your pet decides to bite the hand that feeds, get some HP.
Bottom line is; that AA has always been worthless, it's never been worth blowing 9 AA on, not even back in the PoP days when people thought killing mobs in HoH with DC pets was cool. It's a stupid excuse to be a lazy person's charm...
<san francisco voice>"Oh look *giggle* I charmed this pet, isn't he just silly?" *limp hand gesture*</san francisco voice> <--- That's Dire Charming in the purest sense.[/b][/quote]

on lvl 63, its a waste of points. sorry you are too old. even on lvl 59 its not the best choice but perhaps useful for a lvl or 2, even if the most expensive way.
