I have finished run3, regen3, and scm3.

I am not really looking for advice on what to do next (I have read all the posts). But I am interested in knowing the path other necro's took after those first basic three.

For example (in case I am not being clear)....... Next I got SCF and then Death Peace, etc.

Oh and if there is a post like this already that I missed... well sorry

Been awhile but think I spent some in SCF since I was in a semi raiding guild and I couldnt use dots on trash mobs they were killed to fast for the dot to run its full duration unless I cast them as soon as the mob was pulled. At the time BoT was some major agro so that wasnt really an option. Plus was nice to occasionally get crits on nukes or taps... course if I had to do things differently I would have delayed or gotten fewer skills in that until later.

Guessing something like:
run speed 3
regen 3
SCM 3
SCF 3
some from CA/CS/ND
MC 1
pet hold
lifeburn
WTD 1
finished up CA/CS/ND
FoM 3
ToL 3
suspended minion
LR 5
FoMM 3
ID 5
Call to Corpse
run speed 5

But it's been a while.

i did run3, regen3, scm3

then i got PET HOLD (which you should too btw... then get L70 since you are a raider now ;) )

after that, did ToL3 (crit heals very nice)

scf1 (just to see the occasional crit, i'm not much of a nuker)

critical affliction 3 (critical affliction, arguable the best AA)

then avoidance defensives... combat agility 3, lightning reflexes 5

extra spell slot and death peace aa mixed in there too... but neither essential (but nice)

After Run3, regen3, and scm3, I went for CA3 and ICA3 believing they were the best dps I could buy for my aa's. I wish I'd gotten DP sooner once I had it though. Then the 9th spell slot, crit heals/dd's, and I got pet hold early because it's required for raids. Toss in a few toys (pet aa's) for fun, and lifeburn.

Seriously I am gonna get pet hold. But really to me it just seems that it is not going to make that big a difference that I have a pet or not on a raid. I am guessing that it is a dps thing.

A recent raid comes to mind where we had the mob down to 3% then we ran out of time for the event. If I had a pet, would it of made a difference? (I am guessing no since I was dead at the time :P ). But IF I was not dead, maybe it would of helped, I dunno.

This is pretty much exactly what I did. Note that this list is PoP era. There are new AAs now that I would have done earlier had they been available then.

This is, IMO, the most efficient AA progression as a necro.

1. Run 3/3
2. Regen 3/3
3. Mastery 3/3
4. Fury 3/3 (due to Toxin)
5. Plannar Fury 3/3 (due to Toxin)
6. Teft of Life 3/3 (due to Mujaki)
7. Pet discipline (good for pulling in close quarters. Also good for some pulling tricks)
8. Suspend Minion 2/2 (great for some solo feats in tricky places)
9. Innate IVU
10. Combat agility 3/3
11. Lightning Reflexes 5/5 (lifesaver)
12. Combat stability 3/3
13. Innate Defence (lifesaver)
14. Channelling 3/3 (lifesaver)
15. Natural Durability (Magelo bragging rights)
16. Mend Companion
17. Hastened Mend 3/3 (at 3/3, its a pet CH every 9 mins, Quite nice solo tool)
18. Max all resists
19. Planar Power (Magelo bragging rights)
20. Innate Enlightment (Magelo bragging rights)
21. LifeBurn (I guess...)
22. Metabolism (no more buying food every 2 days)

Those 20 Skills are a lil over 300 AAs. As I said, its the most efficient way to level up the necro AAs. As you can see, I havent included cheesy AAs like DireCharm, LifeBurn or Wake of the Dead. I consider them most useless. Someone might disagree, but however that is not the point of this thread.

that's a good point... in the mid-level PoP type raids you are doing, it will add dps... enough to make the difference? (ca3 will add dps too) hard to say... but pets on raids can have other uses... playing short-term offtank for example

and it is great if you ever pet pull or have times when you lose your pet soloing due to you getting hit, fding, and then pet gets eaten... or even in groups (if it was held, it would have lived)

i would say though (just my opinion of course)... that if you choose to skip pet hold, L70 is definitely the biggest bang for your xp time as you move up to the elementals and better, over any AAs (raiding-wise)... primarily due to less resists from the mobs you fight (and more for you), but also better spells

I always value your opinion :) and I am forever in your debt (at least in eq) for getting me FPoK lol.

And it is my plan to keep going to 70 (pretty much have to if I am ever going to surpass the other necros in my guild ;) j/k)

The only times I have AA exp on is

1) during raids (even then not all the time)
2) when my aa exp gets so close to pinging I just want to finish it off

I'm glad I got Death Peace and 9th spell slot. Because then I can actually use all 9 spell slots, and not have 7 spell slots like I did forever. I am currently in the same boat as you, just starting to do AA. and this is how I'm going...

I have:
run3
regen3
9th spell
Death Peace
SCM3
Pet Hold
Suspended Minion 2 (for pet pulling)

and next I'm getting:
Run5
ND3
CritAff3
ICA3
ToL3
SCF3
CombatAgility3
CombatStability3

with probably raising my Int cap thrown in there randomly as I'm upgrading. After that I'm not really sure. Probably get WTD or Life Burn or MGB in there sometime, but they aren't high on my list. Hell I'm even thinking about getting more buff slots before a few things. It's really inconvenient not having 20.

Having Pet Hold for raid purposes has mainly to do with the risk at which you put your raid force with a pet that is not on hold.

An uncontrolled pet aggroing the mob due to an AE can lead to serious issues on quite a few encounters.

Personally - if I was to lead a raid - I'd ask anybody with a pet that does not have Pet Hold to kindly get rid of their pet during the raid.

My guild has the same policy no hold, no pet. I have no problem following that rule.

What are you doing thinking about AA young lady?! Busted! Get 70...

As for pet hold, that AA is more useful to me outside of raids anymore. With persistant minion my pet stays in my pocket the whole time until we have a high-HP target or something. Then I just pop it out, send it in and watch for rage hehe. I got pet hold pretty soon after my Archetype was at 12 pts though.
