Howdy folks!

I thought I would request your input on do's and dont's for pvp as a Necro.
My chanter grew up on VZ so pvp is not a new part of the game, just wanted some pointers from experienced necros... solo, grouped with my mage hubby, or in a group setting.. what spells are more effective in pvp, what spells are fubar'd in pvp, etc..

ty ty!

I always thought shadow step was a biggie even at upper lvls. If those tank/hybrids cant get in close your already winning.

Fearing pets is best but snaring will likely be fine vs pet classes.

Once you have it keep DMF up at all times if you can. Pks can hit you if they are 200ft directly below you but finding your hit box is a bit of a challenge and you can always use it to stand on top of things like buildies that someone w/o lev cant get on top of.

The higher in lvl you get the more important debuffing will be... regen, clr hp buffs, shm focus line, some form of sow... all of these things are easily killed with your debuff and will prolong another chars life needlessly... send them home you are after all a messenger of death.

There are a few other things i'm sure but have forgotten since my move from VZ... mostly just remember stick and move... aka dot, shadow step, dot, shadowstep... for mellee sorts anyway... casters you can outright just tap and dot heads up letting them worry about your pet.

Even better than shadowstep is good keyboard & mouse control. Practise running, strafing, jumping, twisting midair, etc. with your hubby, so that you are totally proficient at moving and escaping far enough away to cast spells - shadowstep often won't give you casting room, and there are locations where it isn't useful, so it's really good to have your movement skills, and as an enchanter you probably won't have developed those to the same level you'll need as a nec.

A necro is in more active mobile combat than an enchanter. You'll want to be moving a lot, be actively evasive and attack. A necro's role alters very little solo vs in a duo or group - you do damage, damage, and more damage.

At a lower level in group PvP, you'll probably want to dot up everybody there. A lot of weaker people will have to zone out if they are hit with a dot or two, so you'll be paring down the enemies numbers to focus on the real targets.

At a higher level, you will often find yourself fighting a single target, pulling them away from the rest of your group while they deal with other targets. Doting up everyone there will be less effective against higher levels/better geared people.

At lower levels, use your best dots, and tap tap tap. On Zek tap dots work and are great... I hate that they don't on blue.

Necros really come into their PvP strength in their 50s. Pyrocuror and Splurt land best of all our Dots. You'll probably still use those in PvP at level 70. Deflux used to have a considerably lower cast time than earlier taps, but they have reduced the times so it is no longer as significant in that manner. Getting into spells in the 60s and 70s you will begin to find a lot resisted - Horror and Dark Nightmare are rarely worth trying, but at this point knowing who you are fighting and what kind of gear and resists they have becomes important. Fire and poison tend to land a little better than the curses.

Specific questions are kind of easier, I'm never sure what to touch on in general. :)

Just to add...

At lower levels its often important to have a "pvp" spell set that can be quickly memmed. As yuo get higher up you find that most "hunting" spells are "pvp" spells too... so it becomes a case to maybe swap 2 or 3 over

Harmshield is fun if u ever have time for it to mem...

It depends on where you are a TON. I dueled a mage in nro once, and shockingly he ran away but didn't zone out to end the duel..he just went off to go regen or something(and waited for his pet to break root, and his turd herd aa to refresh again/yawn!).

I didn't chase him..I was talking to some friends, then went and got a soda..when I came back, I killed some of the skeletons and scarabs for aotd fodder, that worked well.

As stated before, knowing who you're fighting is almost more important then how you're going to fight them. Characters vary SO MUCh nowadays, it'd be really unfortunate to pick a fight with someone and find out later they're in a high end raid guild and have 1200aa's

Harmshield did not move from my spell bar in about 50 levels. It was on every spell set.

If you are used to it being at your disposal you will find a million uses for it, in PvP and outside PvP. A lot of people aren't used to having it up, or are shy about using it, and never see the value... so it depends a lot on your play style.

I found it most useful in group PvP at higher levels, if a couple of melee concentrated on me and I couldn't deal with them and needed a few minutes for my group to mobilize to help with the targets.

It is also fabulous if you see a wizzie begin a manaburn. HS before it hits, and then have a wizzie for lunch.

It was great when PvP was unexpected... as Mallakith says, having a PvP spellset and a normal xp spellset is a great idea. Harmshield will let you sit down and change spellsets in the middle of a fight.

Good in 'tricks' if you are moving from zone to zone with PvP. For example, in PvP in Natimbi and you want to escape and for some reason gate is not an option. HS, walk up to the magus and repeat 'nedaria' a few times. Anyone on you will think you have forgotten you can't be sent while HS... they'll usually zone over or at least key in Nedaria ready to follow you. Instead, type in Abysmal Sea, click off HS and hit enter. By the time they catch up you've gotten yourself lost on the ship (that ship foils SEQ users trying to follow you from my exp). Now this is overly simplistic, but its a start to thinking towards uses.

And when it comes to the PoD going to OoW.... yes, he will not send you invis, but you have time to invis yourself after asking to be sent. Zoning in invis can make a huge difference.

I use harmshield and qvox on vishimitar..and I try to use it on anything that dt's.

It's a fun little spell, sometimes if a guildmate gets charmed(after lifeburning them) I normally HS up for fun too..that or rune tank them(if they're not dead).

Heh amazing what memories return when we have time to reflect...

My best escape tool between level 6 and 10(ish) was the button with "Hail Seargent Slate" in it ) for some reason everyone turned to check and u could be off and running )

Its amazing what you can do to buy yourself those few seconds you need to get mobilized or get out. Similarly to this one I know a lot of old Hate members had keys like that with a guildies name instead of a mob - usually a mana-burning wizard.
