View Full Version : Good Place To Farm Low Level Words?

Since I have not combined my first spell, I thought I would try to farm some of the words instead of buying them. Maybe I can get xp while I farm them.
I was hoping to hit Echo or Paludal.
My other question is this: Do my combines have to make a spell? I downloaded a sheeet with a bunch of spells on it. Is that the only combines I can make? In other words, is there a way to combine any words in my book or do I have to use certain words that make up our spells?
I was a bit confused when I read all of the information on about 4 different sites.
Thanks again for the help.

For old world research, like any recipe, requires a specific combination of ingredients to work.
For DoDH research, I recommend reading the stickied thread in the Spell Research forum. It's complicated, convulated, but some of the recipes do provide a decent skill up path to around 100.

If you are just starting out with research, completely ignore DoDH for now, it will just confuse you :D .
You do indeed need to combine specific words. Each spell has its own recipe, and you can only combine the ones that exist. The spell list you have probably has everything, just in case here is a complete list of basic necromancer research at EQTraders: http://www.eqtraders.com/recipes/recipe_pa...tr=080105060000 (http://www.eqtraders.com/recipes/recipe_page.php?article=122&rsa=Spell%20Research&sb=trivial&rc=NEC&menustr=080105060000)
Necros tend to like to do Arch Lich because it only needs Words of Ethereal instead of two like the others.

Thank you so much for the information and the link. Someone was trying to help me in th egame the other night and I was more confused after talking to him (he had not done low level stuff in a long time).
I think what had me so confused was a page I had printed that showed The Word that you used on one column on one side and the spell it made on the other. It made it look like that was how you made the spell (put that word in the book and combine it). After seeing theat link, I think th elist I have just is a reference that shows what each word is a part of. The list I had which is like that link was much higher as well.
Thanks again, I really appreciate it.
I loaded up on trader satchels last night so that I can load up on spells and spend a few stretches researching at one time (in addition to doing it during any down time that I may have).
Vendor diving is 1000x better than farming low level words. You can make cash like a madman. Pointless to kill level 20 greenies. Just use your imagination, find the right vendors, then hit them at certain times and before you know it, you'll have an alt chock full of research components.

You used to be able to find plenty of goodies on vendors in or near the newbie/lowbie zones, ie. the gnome merchant in the windmill of LoIO was a good palce for buying/selling there, but the zone is rather empty these days.
Instead go to the vendors nearest the banks in PoK (or in Shadowhaven). There are two vendors outside the small bank (wood bank/Dogle bank) and the tradeskill merchants facing the door of the Main bank which most people go to sell.

Great idea. I am only level 24 now so I was hoping to pick some stuff up along the way.

We used to drop all words and runes and other research material in the Guild Bank (it's our Guild, and one character per on FV... so no Research mules).
After we filled it, Selka (230 research atm) patiently sorted and purged most of it.. being as it was non-necro, and super common.
They are three levels of what you could do:
1. Make mules for all Word/Rune/stuff drops (like "Staff Shard of Luclin, etc"). Every night, put your stuff in shared bank. Log in mules and sort into bags.
2. Get a list of necro words (all of them). Also, I would keep the LoY priest research words and runes. I was doing this, but it's a pain to look them all up.
3. Get a list of the 10-20 words that sell for $$ (like Yeath 73 right, etc) and hold those.. purge the rest.
My experience is.. you will never personally gather enough anyway, without Vendor diving.. using /buyer etc.. so why bother. I only play maybe 4 hours a night, not spenting an hour of that sorting. I kept a list of what I was using now/needed for spells I didn't have. Everything else was tossed.
YMMV.. up to you.
