looking for ideas on how to beat him....

he has the DoDH pet spell which is spell resistant.

we dueled once...
tried debuffing him, that wouldn't stick,
with his buffs and such I couldn't land anything on him
tried annul, takes too long to cast
tried pet, he ate him in under 30 seconds while I tried landing spells on him

ended up shadow stepping constantly and tapping greenies for HP

he got bored eventaully since I wouldn't go toe to toe with him

tap would hit but not for full, and whenever I did get DN to stick to his pet he would just heal it back up. he ended up annulling me.

So what are the best tactics to beat someone like this?
Are pumice stones an option to strip his buffs, then DoT the hell outta him?

Using a combination of pumice and the spell annual can allow you to dispell a little quicker because you don't have the recast delay. But in a duel situation that really won't help in most situations if they have at least two clickies. If they have good pet control and you can't park there pet, you will have a real problem beating a beastie. Your only opinion is running them OOM and then dotting them. If your in the arena goodluck.

good way to get rid of a BL pet is to fear it with the best fear u have and i have found if u debuff the pet and let ur 68 pet go toe 2 toe with it the necro pet will always win ...well at least in my experiance..... also AA's like Wake the Dead, Swarm of Decay and Army of the Dead are also very good sorces of DPS that they cant resist if u have any of the pet AA like flurry or crit those help alot also as they work on the WTD,SoD and AoD abilities

get him to duel you in an area like NC or somewhere with strong mobs and use army of the dead and swarm of decay and if u got you 1.5/2.0 use that. Other then a few tactics hes got a clear advantage over you. What was your aa count compared to his and if you got all your spells makes a huge difference. Also use dread pyre not being 70 yet i not sure but dotting 1k in a single dot should own anyone specially as a low resist spell. Wonder if 5k a tick is reachable.

Dread Prye can hit 5k im sure i get crits from dark nightmare for 1300+ regularly and thats base 500+ dmg a tick. So figure double that and with the new items that add 50% to detrimental spell damage your looking at alot of dmg, not sure with PvP though.

Where to start...

1 - Don't Fear his pet, don't Root his pet. Either DoT it or Ignore it, but don't take half measures. If he's healing his pet, DoT it up and then shadowstep a lot so his pet runs out of range of his heals.

2 - Strong mobs don't lead to stronger Army of the Dead pets.

3 - Necro > BeastLord in most situations. With even gear you should destroy him.

4 - Dread Pyre Won't land, unless he's not geared at all. Same goes for almost any DoT above level 60. You need to use Low DoTs. Splurt, Ignite Blood, Pyrocuror etc... They have the same resist checks as the higher spells, but land better because they are lower. It's the only way you're gonna get damage on him unless he has resists under 300. Easy to Resist spells like Horror, Dark Nightmare etc... don't even bother loading that crap.

5 - DoTs, and all spells in PvP do 66% of their normal damage.

A beastlord fight is pretty simple, but can be long. The Beast can't really hurt you consistently if you take care of their pet, so this is your top priority. Kill those pets at all costs.

You should resist more beast spells, and they're low enough damage anyway that they're just wasting their mana.

Bring the BST down slowly by using low level DoTs, your goal for most of the fight is simply evading their lackluster melee and forcing them to stop and heal herself. You're just bidding your time, using up their mana, saving a lot of your own and waiting for an oppurtunity.

The basis plan is, as they let themselves start to drop below 60 or 50%, make sure your 2 or 3 DoTs are refreshed...now, stop being so evasive, allow them to hit you al ittle bit, not too much, but move only a little to encourage them to continue to chase you.

Then if they ever hit 40%, Turn it all on. Swarm of Decay, Epic Pet, Lifetap Lifetap, Lifetap. A beastlord can absorb damage from pets, but they don't channel spell casting well. Turning on full damage and every trick after lulling them almost to sleep for 5 minutes or more will catch them off guard, taking a moment to realize the danger, and with a chance of interuptting, or simply overwhelming their Healing.

They have enough healing to withstand any direct Lifetap assault, so the suprise is the way you're going to have to win. If your attack run fails, go evasive again, remember you regen faster then they do, so get your mana back up and wait for the next oppurtunity.

It can take some practice, but that beast should virtually never be able to physically hit you if you don't want them to.

It's not that diffucult a scenario, since you can take all the time you need.

I'm no PVP expert (born and raised bluebie), but I have learned a few things that might help:

- Don't let him get to you with the crap about not going toe to toe; using the terrain to your advantage can be the single most important aspect of your strategy (and Sun Tzu will be proud =P). If you have a choice, pick a zone with alot of trees, hills etc. I like Twilight Sea 'cause you can tap elementals for orbs or life (creating your pet army in the process), and when liched and shrunk you are virtually invisible, hehe. Shadowstep often and keep them frustrated.

- Splurt and Pyrocruor seem to be the only DoTs I have ever been able to count on, if others who have more experience than me know of more DoTs that land well maybe they will share. Other than that Lifetap is your friend.

- FD the pet to buy time if necessary...you'll be asurprised at how often people forget to pay attention after sending it initially. Especially if they are nervous about losing.

Anyway I hope that helps...

don't see this happening anytime soon.

self buffed he's pushing 9.5K which is roughly double what I have. His unbuffed resists are 300ish.

he has epic (I don't) + despair so his melee output is good.

shadowstep is so unpredicable, once when I shadowstepped I ended up closer to him :P

in Lavastorm I used the terrain to hide from him and just FD so his pet couldn't find me. Really embarrassing having to hide. Guess this is why I play on a blue server...

Fear in PvP is ridiculously unbalanced, and I don't really thing it belongs.

However, lifeburn, tap dots and a few other spells work on Zek, and should be enabled on all servers in PvP, its just silly that they aren't.

And our spells should definately have upgraded PvP resists - having to use Splurt and Pyrorcuror as our primary PvP spells at level 70 is just retarded.... some of our higher DoTs should be landing (but don't).
