Im a newb Level 38 necro and have my research up to 130. I ve made a few combines and my skill isn't going up at all. Is there a level cap or what??

research is one of the more funky ones as far as caps go

the "claimed" formula was ( level - 15 ) x5

but it doesn't quite work in practice (that would mean at L38 you could only have a skill of 115)... so it may be ( ( level - 15 ) x5 ) + 15

or it may be something else :P

but, if i remember right, it use to cap at 200 at around L52... so you can just subtract 5 per level backwards

sooooo.... if i were you i wouldn't try for more than 5 skillups per level from here on up so as not to waste stuff

Actually, there used to be level caps, back when the entire skill was capped at 200. When they raised the research max cap to 300, they also removed level caps in the skill. So, you may just be having some bad luck in terms of getting a skill up.

Im guessing it was bad luck. After reading the replies I went at my combining again and I got it up to 143 easy. 13 combines in a row and not one research increase I was a little worried that I would continue to waste my ever so precious words.

Also something I noticed with my Ranger when i combine something for the first time, regardless of success, it goes into my combine list right away. With necro spells I have to have a successful combine to have it added.

Getting a recipe into the known recipes should only happen when either a: its an automatically known recipe (usually the common stuff, like common metal/gem combos in JC), or b: a successful combine. I've never seen a recipe added on a fail before.
