Greetings,
I just hit level 39, and the only spell I dont have is the LDON spell dark soul.
This costs 48 AP (mistmoore), and my questions are these:
1) is it worth it, and for how many levels will I actually use it
2) how many adventures does 48 points equate to at level 39?
The spell is 160 mana, 77 damage/tick for 5 ticks. Good, quick damage at this level, should i get it??

If I remember correctly, you get ~4 adventure points on a successful "normal" adventure at level 39. Doing simple math, that'd be 12 MMC adventures, assuming you have no wins there as of yet. The sad part is; assuming you don't die, or get a high % rez for each death, by the time you complete 12 adventures, you should be close to your mid-40s. While the spell will still be something to keep in your front line DoTs, it's not as much of a "showstopper" at that point as it would have been at 39.

hmm, OK. As a related question, I have never done low level LDON missions- my 65 cleric has done some, what is the XP like at lower levels? Is doing these a viable way of grinding, or am I better off just Xping in Echo/DL?

Currenlty level 46 necro.
I got Dark Soul, and when soloing, use it and Asystole along with a darkness. Either root or fear the mob, and send pet in. Used this on Hill Giants, and in Dreadlands. Mob usually <20% health by the time Dark Soul wears off, and dead before the darkness wears off. With a dot damage increase focus, I average about mid 80hp/tick damage on Dark soul, and see it in the low 90s quite a bit as well. I went ahead and bought it just cause at high levels, when you will be able to afford the better stuff, this spell would take 1 or 2 adventures.
On the exp in LDoN for lower levels, it depends. On a normal risk adventure, at victory I usually walk away with about 20-25% exp gain, and if you clear the dungeon, maybe about 35%. On high risk, victory is usually about 35% or so. I have not been in a group that has tried to clear a high risk, but I would guess about 40-45%. It rarely takes an hour for victory for most of the groups i'm in, usually more like 45 minutes or so, another 30 killing after adventure is over. So you would get 35% in a little over an hour.
Note that experience has pretty much remained constant for me in LDoN since I started at level 36. It will also vary depending on the group, of course. Best experience was when I was 4 levels below the next highest level in the group. But if everyone is 35 and you are 42, will be somewhat horrible, as everything will be light blue and green to you.

I have DarkSoul and i don't regret spending my 48 points on it.
It does very good and fast damage, it is very hard to be resisted (i only got one resist vs a dark blue mob once compared to constant VoS resists i used to get) it adds curse counter so it will stack with disease, magic and fire DoTs :)
Plus the graphics look cool and sometimes i get a tell from someone asking what spell that was. It sounds like gate when cast! I once was in a LDoN and started casting and that "gate" sound made one of my group ask, Why the hell are you gating now?

I was a little disappointed with Dark Soul when I did the math. IT cost the same as VoS has less damage as well. The benefit of it is that there is no initial DD so it doesn't break root.
Because of the shorter duration it's nice to have in a group where the kills don't take that long as you get your DP out there at the beginning. When I solo It depends on the mobs wether I use VoS and Dark Souls.

I think it is one of the most usefull spells in our arsenal.
Great to stack on with other dots. Usefull in group situations.
It is almost always memmed.

I love Dark Soul. With the current mob poofing issues associated with fear kiting this spell is a big help as I find myself rot/dotting or aggro kiting when I can't get a group. DS plus VoS = fast death. They go well with our short duration root.
If you ever do hard LDON it's a nice DOT as well since, for me, hard missions usually result in 30s or so fights.
LDON points well spent in my opinion.
