Weapon for a New Necro

Hello from Tunare,
I Finally joined the "dark side" and have a Necromancer of 11 seasons. Most of my previous exp has been a 39 Cleric (ugh) and 24 druid..SMALL levels considering I started this game in June of 1999 ..sigh..took 2 years off..whatever..to the point...
I would like advice on a decent weapon that would carry me through to at least lvl 20 or 30 if possible....also should I continue to split training in Pierce AND 1HB ? Seems an aweful waste if eventually a high lvl Necro would prefer one to the other. May I have your thoughts on this please?
Hmm..while I am at it, this being my first post I may as well fan the flames and really get burned...I tried to type /join serverwide.necrotalk:necrotalk...and I SAW conversations..but HOW do I chat there? Back when I left the game I don't think we did chat channels..only guild and group..forgive me if I am wrong..I am OLD ..have only TWO remaining functional braincells named "Ding" and "Dong".
Well thats it for now...a Necro is SO much more fun than a Cleric ..wow! Thanks for any input. B)

Back when I was doing some tanking for the pet I used a Skull Shaped Sacraficial Hammer. It proc'd a dmg absorber and actually went off quit a bit. It's cheap, and an ok ratio. I used it just to get the mob's attn not for dps, plus a free dmg absorber is nice. Oh, and it looks cool. ;)

As for chats.... if the necro chat was the only chat you had going then just use /1 to chat in it.

Much like /g for group, /gu for guild.

If you have more than one chat going then use /list to see all the chats and the corresponding chat number.

I would just go for whatever weapon you can get cheaply that has some OK stats. As you get to higher level you will NOT be melleeing at all, you take too much damage and the DPS you do is feeble (miss, 1,1,miss, missm miss,6, 2, miss)

If you plan on raising all you melee weapon skills as I did (for the heck of it), I would suggest getting a 2hb first, because as you level and still melee/assist your pet while fear-kiting, you will want to do so with a 1hb/1hp at higher levels and have a nice stat boosting item in your secondary slot.

Ok, I DO realize that at much higher levels I will not be doing melee but I sorta figured the first 30 levels or so ,SOLO, I would be doing some dmg alongside the Bony one . As for 2HB ...No way ! why would I waste the secondary slot that I can have a stat item in ? Ahh ,well, Got a Smoldering Brand ata Good price so ,For now, I have that and will look for some kind of decent piercing weapon next. I just about stripped my Cleric and Druid to get this Necro started so the cash was not the biggest issue..just wanted some decent reccomendations.

Bah! Who says we don't melee?! If I'm grouped I AM melee'ing all the time. Alot of weapons we have hold some very nice procs, whether it be soulwell or timelapse or any number of mana drains/lifetaps. I don't think anyone should overlook the value of melee'ing in groups by all members. Yeah it might suck early on if you get some agro, but that's why we have fd...melee'ing adds another dimension to your character, and some of the time it even serves a purpose. Don't sell it short..it can help.

as for a weapon, I think the polished stone staff was ok. Maybe the blind fish thing, if there's no level restriction there....

This thing procced for me as soon as I started using it and at lev3 with a 14pt proc I was uber. You can pick one up in the bazzar for a few hundred plat. Have leveled 3 different chars into their 20's using it so far. I only wish I knew about it when I started my Necro instead of using a Drachnid Leg tip for all those levels.

Ok Thanks for the replies ..not sure what a "soulwell" is or a "timelapse" for that mater..hmm will have to search the bazaar..I am currently wielding a Smoldering Brand and yes it "procs" quite often and enables me to do decnt dmg to help out my pet. I haven't Quite got the hang of the Necro style yet but am on my way.

Hi ! I used a shaded dagger for quite a few lvls........nice piercing wep...........give it a try, maybe you'll like too. (Lol, still have mine in my bank, an old friend ......how sad am I ?).

I also used a shaded dagger till my 20's when a friend gave me z's heart. i keep the shaded dagger around for any caster i create. good weapon with good dmg/delay and ok stats for a newbie toon!

I have to agree, the Smoldering Brand helped me start a LOT of funeral pyres as a young necromancer.

Heh, this makes me think of just a few levels ago... I was soloing in SD, up on the plateau. Had the reaver pretty much taken care of... when it rooted my pet, last thing before it turned and started walking away. All dots wore off, but it was under 5% health, so even not snared it's not going anywhere... and I think to myself, no need to waste mana, I'll just finish it off.

First problem... do I even have a weapon? I use my zheart all the time, can't run up and whack it with that.... (might have been convincing back when it at least looked like a sword).. hmmm, haven't seen my weapon in ages, maybe 15 levels or more, but I wouldn't have banked it, would I? - Beginning to feel I'm going to be whacking it with my fist, shortly - Frantic searching of bags... Finally find my old Smoldering Brand in my inventory and equip that (it's the first, and only, weapon I've ever used).

So here I am, all proud of myself, weapon up, being all effective and conserving my mana, walk up to the reaver, hit attack... and hit the damn thing for 1 point of damage. 1 Point!!!!!!!

*Sigh* That was the longest 4.5% of health on a mob EVER. But my good old trusty Smoldering Brand did the trick eventually. I knew there was a reason I had kept it!
