I read the insane pet thread and other posts about tricking out our pets. I have not given anything to my pet in a long time and have had no problems. I am wondering if most of you experienced people still give weapons/armor to pets on a regular basis. Does it make a noticable difference?

If some mage sticks weapons on my pet thats great and all, but I don't go out of my way to get them.

What Xislaben said.

Heck, lately I havn't even had my pet out, mostly because I've been pet pulling in devistation/arcstone

I'm too impatient. Only time bonsey gets toys is when a Mage takes the initiative on a raid - and half the time I don't have one out anyway.

If I am pet pulling for my group I'll usually get him a vic or wunsh to go with bulwark but that's about the extent of it.

Ok thanks, I am just now learning HoH basements and was wondering if it would make them die significantly quicker.

If you're soloing it helps, especially at lower levels, but I won't pay for them.

if youre just starting out a new class that has access to a pet, giving him wepaons and such helps out tremendously. i personally famred the pet potion in upper guk one time for a druid alt, gave him a weighty poleamr and watched him hit for around 90 at level 1. also giving him armor, temp and other goodies will help as well.

one of my favorite past times is making a new character and tricking out his pet and just raping stuff in field of bone. get to level 10 in like 30mins or so :) its fun! but ya i never go out of my way to give my pet anything other than haste and bulwark. i usually dont even use him on raids unless i already had him summoned for something. the AEs just eat him up to fast, even with bulwark.

when I buy pet toys, I worry too much about my pet dying... what can I say, I'm cheap!!! lol. Plus, in some areas, the drops totally suck. it makes me sad  POJ, POD, PON...etc. Great exp, loosy loot tables.

definitley still works, find the highest damage 2 hander you can in the baz (i chose weighty polearm cause there was one foir like 200pp but there are other choices) give it to garer and watch him tear up. if you use Brazier of Elemental Summoning (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=3611) you'll get a lvl 12 mage fire pet, usuable at level 1. thie little guy will just rip through all mobs in FOB or a similar area. I used him up to 25ish i think on my druid, but then again i had healing.

remember than a pet can use any weapon regardless of its recommended/required level for max efficienty, also, to reall ramp up the hp for these guys, buy a crystal belt off of a mage. its +450 hp i think and any level pet can use it. dont forget your muzzle and plate armor too. grab a temp, HoS, maybe a haste and a regen for the little guy and you dont have to do anything other than /pet attack.

i HIGHLY recommend this for leveling a low level character because of how quick it is. theres a great right up on this method here (http://www.rpgexpert.com/4560.html) by a guy who plvled a cleric into the 30s using this method. thats where i got the idea to try it from. its a good read if ya have some time, check it out

It gets less noticable at higher levels.. once a pet is dual wielding naturally the bonus for a 2hander gets lower and lower.

From what i recall pet damage with weapons remains fixed (ie it doesnt change with skill) so a level 1 pet with dmg 30 2hander will hit for 2*weapon damage and a level 70 pet with dmg 30 2hander will hit for exactly the same.

Altho its been a while since boner's been out what with raiding all the time again :)

I buy the belt and mask when I can find it in the bazaar. Usually find a bazaar mage selling the summoned items for 10-15pp each. Stats on belt help and 11% haste on mask is not an uber increase for the pet, but then again 30pp is not a burden either.

Weapons? Never parsed it out really. Never seen what the flaming weapons and how well they work. Might be worth the investment? Getting procures an extra dps is never a bad thing is it.

At 63 your not going to find it an overwhelming increase for your pet, but even at 4 pieces, a 60pp investment shouldn't be a burden for a nec. I wouldn't sit in PoK all day auctioning for pet toys, but if they are sitting in the bazaar I think its worth my time to grab a set. :D

I only get pet weapons when I am going to be kiting in fire or the nest for awhile and there is little risk of boner (or myself) dying. Then again, I haven't done either of those zones for XP like that in a very long time.

raid: my pet gets toys, dont worry, i dont even have to ask for it.
group: if mage in group i ask once, maybe twice, or i disband, if pick up group.
solo: i dont need toys, i am a nec) - this drama above was just for fun -

such simple.

PS: to not have a pet up, is either proactive demolishment of damage or just uber arrogance. or simply personal disability to use a pet in uber game at all)

ive found keeping a pet up in tacvi to be far too much of a hassle. if i really dont want him to die, i have to juggle between pet FD, pet hold and my pet heals. all of this time while i could be dotting... its just not worth it for the crummy little damage he does. maybe if it get pet affinity and get him raid buffed it would be a little bit better. but with the AEs that i resist less than have the time even with infusion on, i have a feeling it wouldnt make too much difference...

I keep my pet alive and active in all content up to and including Tacvi and CoA.

For Tacvi you just need to know which mobs ae ramp and at what % they do it and he lives np with a single pet hold click.

Exceptions:
I use pet pocket on Ture because jabober isn't going to resist Wanton Destruction and I don't want to spend the time healing him.
I don't use a pet on tail snake (south pixxt) in tacvi, cause that could end badly, so I either pocket him or just put him on guard in the hallway.

Why?

With lots of pet AA's (and I don't even have em all) and buffs your pet actually puts out a decent amount of DPS, and as mobs start to resist more spells jabober's percentage increases.

From a sample of 1 (I'm cheap) with all the background.

Rezzed somebody's friend's mage alt in DS & got paid alot more than I expected.

10EE, I had none on me atm, that was the opener. /em faint
(necro main somewhere I suspect)

It gets better.

Mage medded up & summoned his pet. I figure he's gonna equip his critter & I expect nothing else in payment. He then hands me a full summoned bag and a few more goodies.

By the time he was done, bonehead had full summoned plate set & the mask, belt & 1h slashers with the cold proc. A focused 67 pet with all the bells and whistles.

That pet lasted thru a fully Ikky4 run (the glorification nonsense one). And I tend not to back pets off on mob temper tantrums either.

I've found Murphy's Law works wonderfully whenever I have pet toys on my pet. I always end up dead within a couple hours or so. :P So I really only ever get them if they're free or I happen to be in the bazaar and they're insanely cheap since I can't really afford to spend 100+pp every hour or two for 2 weapons, mask and belt. I also don't notice much of a difference in my pet's damage either. If I worry about keeping the pet alive, it's disasterous. If he's not geared and easily disposable I can often keep the same pet for days on end.

You mentioned pet FD in yer post. I am a lvl 51 nec on povar. I don't know what pet FD is. Can somebody explain that to me? Maybe I know it but it's a different term? All the help is much appreciated :) Thanks!

All the help is much appreciated Thanks! It is an aa that you may purchase that will give your chance to FD. it has 3 levels with a 25%/50%/75% success rate tied to it. It is a pretty cheap aa as well, iirc it is only 3aa's per level.

Pet FD fails for me when I need it more often that not it seems. :)
