View Full Version : Research Frustration
I spent 4k on words last night for a level 60 spell, I am level 63, my research is at 197, I have both the quill and cap that enhance research, my research failed ! :( Whats up with this ? Will getting to 200 fix this or will research always remain an ify kind of thing ? I work pretty hard for plat and it's frustrating to blow it away with the click of a button. This is happening way to often. Are there any recommendations for improving my chances further ? Thanks !

Unfortunately, no it won't....
Trade skills, even research, have a chance to fail specially if you are trying for those end-game items/spells.

Even when an skill is trival you still have a 5% chance of failing it according to inofrmation i saw on the traders board or forums

Don't feel bad, happens....yes, even if the combine is triv, there is still a 5% chance of failure but the variable is like rolling dice and the % goes up if the triv is higher than your current skill.....i.e., the 5 attempts I made for a Robe of Abrogation....made the first, failed the next 4....you never know. Last 40 spell attempts I made....39 for 40, only failure, the FPoK I was making for myself. Life Sux sometimes.

I have found that at 200 skill and modifier I sometimes still will fail. I have however discovered that my success rate is very much higher with KEI cast on me to raise my int up, so not sure if its the spell or getting int up that helps it alot also.
But so far have only failed once with KEI and lots without it at lower skill lvls at least.
Hope this helps!

That can be frustrating. You can train your last points in research to max at 200. Research is the only tradeskill you can buy with training points.
Everyone mentioned the 5% built in failure, so I won't discuss that further. Kei and a geerlok in primary does help eliminate that. But the part No one has mentioned Yet. Funeral Pyre as an Example is triv around 220, So your chance of Failure is still there. Most of your LvL 60 spells are greater than 200 to varying points beyond.
Unfortunatly, our research Maxes at 200.
On a Happier note, On Funeral Pyre as an Example, I fail 2 out of 6 combines....(sarcasm, 40k poof)

Just a note to above post. I have lucked into Words of Torment for a very very very cheap price so I am selling my copy of Funeral Pyre in the Bazaar on the Nameless Server for 9k. However if you shoot me a Tell in game and I'm there I will gladly make a trade with you or reduce to a much reduced lvl for you.
Well I sold the FP spell now so if you get words and need a combine can try but it's risky given the Trivial on it.
