Does anyone know why when you give your pet 2 weapons it sometimes defaults them both as the smae when sometimes they are completely different weapons? Is this a bug or something? Most of the times i spend money on weapons with Procs and It changes them, and it does not just change their appearance, but it also changes their PROCs

I have noticed that too. sometimes I will give pet a 1hs and either a 1hb or piercer and the both show as 1hs same with a 1hs and a h2h item...

Yep that is what i Mean. Not sure if that is a bug or not, but it does change the weapon effects also. I gave my pet last night a Gnoll whip with stun effect, and a dagger. It showed 2 daggers and never once proc'ed a stun at all in 2 hrs of combat(

Here is what happens.
if you give your pet a velium war hammer as the first weapon and a fine steel sword as the second the will both look like hammers.
this will happen. you weapon will still proc. the one that was turned into a sword will not it is just a hammer.

i belive this happen when you get a proc weapon and a non pro weapon.

well last night I was messing around and I gave my pet an ulak first and then gave him a bastard sword, when he "equiped" the bastard sword, they both looked like bastard swords....

Yes, seems to be the case. You give pet 2 different weapons and it takes the form of one of the two. Not sure about procs though, don't use proccy weapons much.

Never noticed a change in proc, but have noticed the changing appearance thing. In my experience it seems random though, as sometimes my pet'll have two different weapons, and I get all excited that it's been fixed. Then next pet I do the same and bam, one transforms again. Blech.

Not much of a deal atm, just hit 59 and nothing shows at all now lol. But still an annoyance.

Not really sure still about how Weapon Appearance changes Procs, but sent Verant some Emails. No replys as of YET. . But I will Say that i am 44 now and the 44 Pets do Rock. They hit like a Tank Would to an Extent  , and Their Damage output rocks also ;)

I try to give them the BEST weapon first. But honestly I tend to be cheap with Procing Weapons. I have found that there are certain weapons that seem to always perform better though. In Paineel there are those two cave miner skel's. Those pick axes actually perform much better than you would expect so U kill them for them when I am heading to Dualk or Gunthak.

Cool I will try the Picks Next time i goto Gunthak. I never been many Places near Paineel. Where are the Skellys Located

Can we also give our pets armour to wear? If so, does it have to be a specific type and would it really make a difference? I know I can give them shields and swords, etc., but didn't know if they could use armour.

yes you can give your pet armor, I dont know if it truely helps. has anyone parced this? or tested this?

Yes and it doesn't help much. I have given my pet everything from phatom leather to phatom plate and it doesn't help much. Belt of Magi'not(sp?) and the Worn Haste summoned mask work at any lvl.

Just last night, I handed my pet a luggald trident and a FS rapier and clicked okay...then they both were FS rapiers. Whatever I put in last tents to be the wep they both become. I put a procing weapon in the second hand and it allowed the weps to show as what they actually were. there is a definite bug there.

Have you tried giving the weapons one at a time? I'm not sure about the procs, but it does seem to make them not both have the same graphic...

I've parsed damage with spectre pets with summoned Mage armor and weapons - the damage difference is only barely noticeable while the Muzzle of Mardu and high level summond Mage armors make a difference that is enough to let the pet offtank for an extra minute or two ;)

Necro pets can't dual wield till the 44 pet, and even they can only dual wield if you give them TWO weapons. The 49 pet and higher will dual wield all the time with or without weapons.

Actually i have never noticed that issue with the weapons. But i have never given them anything but Mage summoned proc weps. When i do that i usually give them on Fire proc and one cold proc. The muzzle is 11% haste which is nice but i dont always get it. The girdle is nice for a direct 500HP gain as well as the +10 to the pets dex for proc action.

Regarding armor i have never parsed it but with my 61 and 65 pets tanking in seb and chardok they last quite a bit longer before i have to Touch of death them. I dont get the armor often as not many sell phantom plate in bazaar and on my play times i dont see many mages. However i hope that helps a bit.

Hand of ixiablat = Fire Proc
Blade of Kedge = Cold proc
Blade of walnan = Stun proc

those are the main ones that i use.

Pets take stats (hitpoints, haste, resists, proc, etc.) from the weapons, but they do NOT take the dmg / delay. They hit the same with bad ass weapons as they do with junk. I tested this again this weekend and they do not care what the dmg / delay is. NO it is not that they take the dmg if two times the pets innate dmg either. I dont care what you put in your pets hands they don't hit harder unless they are focused pets and that has nothing to do with the weapons. They don't hit more frequently either.

AND it does seem that they also do NOT take a weapons magic rating either. Even rusty weapons in the hands of our pets, will hit the mob, which means it is totally ignoring a rusty weapon altogether except for the graphic.

I also summoned a level variety of our pets to try and see when they actually use the dual weild skill and quite frankly I couldn't tell. The graphic doesn't mean shite. Just because you can put a weapon in the hand of your pet and it shows, doesn't mean he is actually using it. I have to do some parsings this coming weekend to actually see. It definitely isnt obvious like it was when my rogue got dual wield.

They dual wield at 29. Give him 2 different types of weapons. Even if the graphics bug makes them look the same, you'll still see a lot of hits with the main-hand weapon type (i.e., slash, crush, pierce), and some (not many, but some) hits with the off-hand.

You'll also see some double attack attempts with the main hand, but none with the off hand.

This is what I observed:
29 - Summon Dead - Some double attacks with main hand. Doesn't dual-wield much without 2 1h weaps. If you hand him a pair of weapons, he'll do so noticably better. Not great, but observable dual wielding. No double atks with off hand.

34 - Invoke Shadow - Better double attacks. Still forgets he has a 2nd hand unless you give him a pair of weapons. When you do, it prompts him to remember.

39 - Malignant Dead - Pretty reliable double attack with main hand. Uses his off hand most of the time even when bare-fisted, but "prompting" him seemed to improve it. Some off-hand double attacks.

44 - Cackling Bones - Double attacks frequently, and about 1/3 to 1/2 the time with off hand. Seems to recall he has a left fist, since I didn't notice any increase in off-hand attacks with a weapon.

49 - Invoke Death - Quite the happy little bonepile. Dual wields and double attacks with both fists pretty regularly.

Haven't reached the heights of power yet, so no further reports for now.

I have become more addicted to summoned weapons than I ever was KEI :)
The first thing I do every time I log in now is run to PoK, grab some plat from the bank and start looking for a high level magician to summon up a couple of pet packages, mask(s), belt(s), and fist(s) or sword(s). Then I go grab a quick virtue from a friendly cleric and I'm ready to go. Find a mob that you marginally can or can't kill and these things make a difference.

I agree with doomfir, that it doesnt matter the wep, beit crappy or uber, but procs do make a difference.. I see my pets procs all the time when I give him velium weps, or summoned mage ones, just seems to be doin the job. In gunthak/dulak, shivs are plentiful, and drop off all the mobs in the zones, and are cheap..

Yep. I get weapons for my pet for the procs. I put two gnoll hide lariats on my DC pet in veksar and he owns. The stunner proc keeps the taunt on the pet and away from me. I also get mage pet toys to help. I esp like the belt as a way to add hps to my pet. Too bad we dont get any such stuff / spells. Then again a mage cant lifetap or FD so I am not jealous one bit.

/agree on the last part!

At least we can buy those mage items and so very cheap (around 12-15pp in Povar) and mages, OTOH, can't buy FD or Lifetap *grin*
