View Full Version : Research enhancments
I can't find the thread I'm looking for, so I'll just ask here.....I have both the cap and quill that enhance research 5%. Someone posted awhile back that the effects do not stack, you could use one or the other, but it does not help to wear both. Is that true ???

I have 200 Research and wear both when combining....
...on combines that are 200+ I had one failure in my last 40 attempts. I made 7 straight "Form of the Hunter" (lucky Druids), 3 Banishment of Shadow, 1 Divine Intervention, 3 Legacy of Thorn, 2 Moonfire, 2 Khura's Focusing, 1 Unspoken Word, 1 Word of Redemption, 1 Torpor and some others that escape me now, yet failed on my only FPoK combine. Drat, double drat.
Had a marathon session one day making spells for Guildies, level 59+ and never once received a "triv" message.
Whether they stack or not...if you have both, does it hurt to wear them while combining?

One or the other. Don't waste time or plat on getting both.
Thanks for the responses. No, it doesn't hurt to wear both, but if I remember correctly, I paid very little for the quill and about 1k for the cap. If they don't stack, I'll keep the quill and sell the cap.

Was going to test this out tonight, but I was unable to acquire the cap. Anyone that has both mind posting on if they stack or not? You can check now when you open your book and it will display your current skill. With just a geerlok I am up to 210 now for research.

Tradeskill modifiers do not stack ever.
Only ability modifiers stack, i.e., dodge +%, channeling +%, backstab +%, etc..
My main is a Grand Artisan and has confirmed this many many times. Even the Devs say that this is so.

Ah ok. Too bad I guess. Was not sure if anyone had ever tested this before.

As I understand and will believe till a EQ rep says otherwise is that. The modifiers mod the roll not the skill level so say when you hit combine a random 100 is thrown 50+ you suceed 49 or less you fail but with the +10 modifiers it would make it so 40+ succeeds and 39 and lower fails. If you think dfferent fine but this is what I have been told by many people and its the only thing that makes sense to me. I had a few alchemy mods on shm and i would combine a item that was a few lvls above me and would still not get trivial so believe what you want to but if you cvan afford it then go for it.
