Hail Brothers of Darkness..
A few queries ..First : When I get my new pet at lvl 12 , is he considered "magical" so I can hunt those pesky Wisps in EC/WC >OR if he is not..will giving him a CHEAP Magical weapon do the trick ?
Second : should I be using "mend Bones" or the Health Transfer spell while in battle ? My lvl 8 pet seems to be always near death ..guess i hunt poorly (shrug).I will ding Shortly ..half a lvl away but I SHOULD know how to keep pet alive a bit better for the future when I will not use my own melee skills so much to reduce pets aggro.
ANY advice will be well utilized and much appreciated...suppose I SHOULD use fear when I reach 12 if I can find a hunt area that is not so mob filled..currently hunting close to Kurns Tower in Field of Bones till I lvl. Then I may try Paladul again or Kurns if it has same exp bonus as Paladul..anyone know if it does?
Thanks for your Enlightenment in advance. I hope SOON to be rid of these Newbie type questions..but hey we ALL need to learn at first
Also can someone clue me as to WHAT exactly are "clickies" ? I have a few items with "effects" such as a "improved damage" item and Burn Affliction...do I need to somehow "activate " these or are they automatically "ON" as long as I am wearind the item? (shrug) I know ,I know ...such a damn noob..My Apologies.

A clickie item let you cast without using mana... the difference with focus effect is easy to see, on a clickie item you will see a line displaying the casting time of your spell.. something like "Effect : <name of spell> ( <item must be equipped or not>, casting time = <time of casting>)". This is a clickie item.
Focus effect will not say anything about a casting time, you do not need to activate them, and they are displayed as "Focus effect : <insert name of focus here>"
As for the tips on how to hunt at level 12.. I think I was using fear a lot, but the first fear doesnt last that long so I melee'd quite a lot too... but I really don't remember if this pet is magical or not, sorry.

As for pet heals... almost right away, you should find that there are other spells you want up, and you won't have the room. I never use them as I find them very inefficient, both in terms of mana spent for the heal, and in what else I could be using my mana for. When you find a place to xp using fear you will notice a big difference in the speed, ease and mana efficiency you have in killing things. Make sure you tell your pet to sit while you are medding, and to follow again when you stand up.
You might want to consider an outdoor zone to level in as those are the places necros really show their power, rather than Kurns/Paludal where you are stuck relying on a group much more and using your pet as a shield rather than as the weapon he deserves to be.

Your lev 12 pet is considered a magical weapon so you can use it to hunt wisps.
Fear kite your mobs and your pet won't get beat up as much.
Both your Pet Heal spell and you heal over time spell heal close to the same amount of damage. But, the heal over time spell costs less mana. I would get used to using your heal over time spells while you either leech or lifetap the mobs.

Just remember to use the darkness spells before fear (d'oh, when I was learning, that was the second biggest lesson to learn).
Also, at that low level, I would usually snare the mob with the darkness line, then go in next to pet an melee for a bit after casting any other dots. When my health got low, I would just back up and lifetap, then go back up. My pet's health usually stayed up there, and mana wasn't too bad. But then again, I didn't learn how to fear kite well till I was in my 20s, so I can't really say which was better. Note that this won't work very well later, as the mobs start to really hurt.
Good luck to you, and your fine choice of class

I agree. Get hit as often as possible at the lower levels, before they really start to hurt; when your defense maxes for your level (4x your level, I believe, max of 145) go back to a place of safety and punish the creatures all the more for thier foolish attempts to hurt you.
Fear kiting gets easier when you get Engulfing Darkness at lev 12, since it lasts a whole minute.
Oh, and generally a focus item will glow, sparkle, shine, etc, when it's used. Some kick off when you cast (efficiency or extended types), some when the effect lands (such as burning affliction items.)

when i leveled my sk (caasper lvl17 now) and any of my other low level toons, other than my necro, i went to kurns from 8-19 or 20, then to puludal(sp) after that. you wont be able to fear in kurns, at least not without a huge risk. so you will want to tank for a bit, and when your health gets low back off and lifetap.

Kurn's is extemely easy and awesome exp. I was in there from lvl 6-20 or so. I left there with a bank full of bone chips, high defense, good bind wound and good offensive skills. That was all in the newbie quest armor. I didnt twink my necro until lvl 20. <_<
I didnt use fear until I went to LOIO and OT. Even then, I would mostly agro kite. I found that faster than fearing.

It's been a while since i last went to Kurns but IIRC you can fear the skellies and others won't aggro as long as you don't get in their aggro range and just let pet follow it.
Turn taunt off and use spook the dead, cheap 10 mana fear on undead.
But again, it's easier and faster imho, if you get a group there and there is always some high level dr00d or shammy PL someone and you can get a ride with them.
After that, like Sefrenia said, go to Paludal and group till 23-24.
Oh! And yes, GET HIT! Get hit while you can to raise your defense. This was a major mistake i made when i was little and my defense at 51 is only 56 :(

(4x your level, I believe, max of 145)
Defence is 3x(level+5) for INT casters, at least at level 10 and above. Odd formula, but I've verified it at by meleeing until skillups stopped at a number of levels.
