I think the whole idea for charm undead is stupid. Necromancers use undead and throw them away when they are done. How many "charming" necromancers are there? When you think of a Necromancer, do you see a suave dapper gentleman who tricks undead into doing his bidding?
The charm undead line should be changed to chromatic save. Change the word "Charm" to "Compell". The spell should be an undead only DoT, that only takes effect if charm wears off before X duration (for example sake, say that X is 1/2 the possible duration of the spell). For roleplaying purposes, think of it as putting a gun to the zombies head, with the understanding that if it turns against you, you pull the trigger. That way, the devs don't have to worry about Necromancers "Tashing" mobs to stick their curses more easily. Just my opionion, feel free to flame away.
One more thing...for any Charm type spell, do something like WoW. In WoW, a mob that has been charmed as two sets of chains circling their bodies, so that it is easily visible to others that the creature / person is charmed.

EQ has the ability to not show spell graphics, so people would be able to note see them, only other way i can think of is a nw model to spawnwhen charm lands, but SOE wont even give us new pet models.

I can be quite charming when the situation calls for it. B)
Have some fun charming low-level undead in noob zones and screwing with people. That's all the spells are good for anyway.

i dont like ideas about "removing" something. there are better and more appropriate ways to make the game better.

All we need is a better method for making undead charm more reliably stick for a decent length of time and you might just see necros using charm more often.
I for one would love to be able to charm things occasionally, but the way they currently have it implemented makes it difficult to use it for anything useful other than fun.

Next time, please read the post and not just the subject line before commenting.
My disagreement is with calling it "Charm" undead. I think that Necromancers should have their own flavor, rather than being ghetto Enchanters. Also, I feel that the devs should be looking at ways to allow Charm to be useful in exp situations. I gave an example in my post above. Sure, we can use it to play around, but it has little usefullness (outside of helping folks with a couple of quests).

Dont remove Charm, fix it!
When it had the MR debuff on it, I used it. Since then it started sucking and breaks way too much so I used it very little.

I don't think I would like to see anything in EQ to reflect anything done in WoW. As previously mentioned every player has the ability to turn spell graphics off, so that won't work for everyone.

I know quite a few Necros who can and will use undead charm when the situation suits them, including myself. I like the idea of having the capability there when I choose to use it, however limited it may be. Undead are ugly, how "suave" does one have to be to "charm" them to do ones bidding anyway?

I don't really understand how other than the save portion of this proposal would be any different from someone dotting an NPC when charm broke, save using extra mana.
Obviously the Necromancer class ability to charm undead is really limited. We all know what those issues are. I'd have to agree with other people and say these abilities should be further enhanced in future expansions (wishful thinking). I'd also like to see more content from either a solo or group perspective where these abilities might play a role (also wishful thinking).

I really think are whole undead line needs slightly more attention in the fall expansion, among other things =p.
I doubt charm will change much. The lvl 54 and are PoP versions rank as the most entertaining ones. Past that they nerfed the dmg output on charmed mobs slightly above lvl 60ish I think.
Anyhow are undead spells should be far superior to any other class IMO.
