Don't know if anyone else is having this problem but it seems like my FD is not working good lately.I can be in NC, try to throw a few FD and I get nothing but me laying on the ground thinking I feigned but get attacked .By the time I can stand up to run I see POK naked.I died 3 times in there in a row because of it.Trying to split named from trash and such.Just me?or after big patch?I've never had this happen before since recently.

Some zones have modifiers that effect FD... I dont know if its true or not but i got a SS from a dev saying so... Who knows it may be bad luck or it may be true.

Sorry need to edit...

Sauruman your an idiot.

Can you post that SS? I think you'd win the SS contest hands down.

And you need to re-edit again. It's: Sauruman you're an idiot. If you're going to call him one, make sure you get the sentence right. ;)

I ran over to NC today and used the DP aa about 50 times and i only failed a few times. I didnt fail enough to make me think there was a problem.

That and I can't remember the last time it failed on me when i really needed it.

I've had this happen plenty of times. You cast FD,and u get no message either way telling you if u failed or what. Then u get beat down of ur life.. I also noticed this with other spells on other characters. You cast a spell, and you get no messaes saying u did damage or the spell even got resisted. Not sure why this is happening or if its designed.

I'd rather get that message saying if it failed or not. Especially on FD, hate FD and it not work and you dont get that FD message: such and such as fallen to the ground..Its annoying, and frustrating at times, but I guess theres bigger issues that they are tending too, what that is I have no idea.. Only the Devs know, scary thought....

I'd love to see the SS. Not that I don't believe you or anything, but the whole conversation would own.

I've noticed an increase from time to time, then I just think it's the RNG screwin' with me. I'd love some factual data to explain "why" shit happens.

OMG i hate this shit... why dont they fucking fix it!!!! seriously I have had it fail more times than it has worked today. And that type of thing is not once in a while either.

I'd love to see the SS. Not that I don't believe you or anything, but the whole conversation would own.I know I have seen the conversation of a dev saying this. I have also seen a conversation with a dev that directly addressed the previous conversation saying that it wasn't the case.

My guess is that some devs don't know what they are talking about. EQ is a monster, its life has spanned many devs in many areas. They have bits of code that they dont' know what it does, and they have code doing things that they don't think is happening.

I havn't personally noticed any poor FD performance. I use audio triggers for fail messages and it seems as reliable as usual the past few days...I've mostly been hanging in the nest feeding my gambling addiction though.

Sissl actually got a response from a dev on the FD fails. He is the one who let us know about the zone modifiers, I think.

Anyways, to pin down something like this that doesn't seem particularly off the wall, we need a ton of testing. We would have to check FD rates in many zones to the tune of thousands of tests.... then send that raw data to the devs and have them check the intended FD fail rates. So, unless its really bad like above 5% or so, it probably isn't necessary to check it out. Keep an eye on it though, folks.

Alternatively, we could ask a question on FD fails, asking what the % fail is in like 5 zones we list. Up to you guys :D

Why only ask for 5, why don't they just tell us?

sauruman
07-06-2006, 02:46 AM
If the goal of asking a question is to get an answer, the question must be reasonable. I seriously doubt the would give us the real numbers to hundreds of different zones. They could say anything from company secrets, to risk v. reward, to the most common thing of just ignoring the question.

If we were to say something like... What is the FD fail rate with Death Peace AA in these following zones:

PoTime B
Ruins of Illsalin
Demi-Plane of Blood
Dreadspire Keep
Arcstone
The Hive

Maybe up to like 10 zones or so... we might have a chance of getting the question answered. Especially if we asked it in such a way such as why do some zones have higher FD mods then others, does it always scale with difficulty, and in the future can we see FD fail rate reduction aa's introduced?

Schaeffer

FD failure rate reduction AA's...

How about they make willful death worthwhile first.

Asking this FD question could be a backdoor way to re-ask Willful Death again... Hmm.

FD zone modifiers, great... As if our FD weren't already significantly worse than say Monks.

So, who wants to fd 10,000 times in each zone and record the % failures? If the base fail rate is 2% or so, you'd need about that many...

sauruman
07-06-2006, 07:02 PM
The FD zone modifiers effects monks just the same too, and SK's as well. Though they have better devises in place to cope with those said failures then we do.

This is working as it's intended? If it is, then it sucks.

FYI, I can understand why I was summoned in the first place--I didn't FD through those first few ticks like I should have--I had a good reason, but whatever... but, after that it just kept failing over and over again. I counted 7 all toll last night during Devlin too, but that was just too damn long to post (and most of them were just the AA failing, not the spell being interrupted).

Interrupts and fallen messages happen, I'm more concerned about the instances in which you do not get a failed message yet FD didn't work because you either get summoned or the mobs keep running at you to be honest.

But they "happen" all the damn time, is what I'm saying. 3 in a row last night, "Maeryn has fallen to the ground". Then 2 interrupts, then two more "fallen to the ground", with not a single good FD in between them. What the hell is the fail rate on that thing, anyway? Has anyone ever said?

I believe it's supposed to be the same as the DP spell, 5%, the bonus is a manaless cast (read no fizzles), freeing up a spell gem, and not having to wait for the 2 second spellbar refresh.

I can go count how many times I *tried* to FD during that fight last night, but it seems like it's failing a helluva lot more than 5% lately.

I fall to the ground in hatchet's room quite a bit..and DoB overall is pretty harsh for it.

Instant would wtfpwn...I mean, that'd make us fd like monks..who btw can't fd until 2 levels after us. It'd make sense that the ability be able to be used on the run. It won't happen, but it does make sense. Willfull death is a joke. We kept asking for something, they kept saying no..we kept asking, they said "here..there ya go, it's useless..but now shut up."

I've had this happen to me a few times somewhat recently- FD, no fail message, no spells to break it, yet get summoned yada yada yada (and no, I don't feel like grep'ing a log file, that I should have rolled over and archived like 4 months ago, to find the occurances). It happened to me infrequently enough, I never bothered to look into it.

-----------------------------

As for standard "fallen to the ground" FD fails, I don't feel that there's really much of an issue there. Sometimes the RNG simply hates us (personal record is falling to the ground 5 times in a row, since I started informally keeping track... over 2 years ago). But, on average, the fail rate is fine- remove the chance to fail and you'll have rogues demanding that there not be a chance to fail evade et cetera.

Hatchet the Torturer: As far as interrupts go, he's a very pushy mob, he also seems to get quite lucky in connecting stunning blows. I've done my share of tanking him, I'm no stranger to how he melees and how easily he can interrupt casters.

Perhaps the Demi-Plane of Blood has a higher percent chance to fail FD, perhpas not. If it does, in it's current inception, I'll certainly lose no sleep over it as I don't think it's really that bad. People tend to have a day or 2 of bad luck and label a zone/event/whatever as having a problem, when the problem is more perceived than present.

-------------------------------

All this isn't to say that I never have FD issues- I fall to the ground, get interrupted because I tripped over a pixel, etc. The only real concern I have is when I receive no indication that my FD failed or was broken.. then proceed to get summoned and introduced to random_mob3429374293's little friend.

So last night I was messing around with a few friends in Destruction, the MPG trial, and the other Necro and I couldn't lose agro no matter how many times we FD'd, and afaik there are no AEs in there to knock you out of it. And if there are, we weren't getting a message to that effect. So, I grabbed a SS and compared it to my logs, and you can see at this point I was FD'd for 5 seconds, with 2 necro pets hitting it the whole time, and I was on target up until it died. I even double checked with a few of you and everyone told me that once you FD the mob should no longer have you on target, and as you can see from my logs I got no message saying FD failed or that a spell hit me or anything like that, so, what's wrong with this picture? I Fd'd at 15:31, and that has a 1 second cast time so by 15:32 I should have been successfully FD'd according to my logs. Yet at 15:36, when that SS was taken, the mob still had me on target.

If it wasn't stunned or death marching..it was either lag or fd being bugged. Not knowing group composition, it'd be hard to say if a mob could be stunned for 5 seconds, although it's doubtfull. Does that mob cast?

You might of found something. FD seems a bit less reliable lately.

Group was monk, necro, necro, bard, cleric, pally. I wasn't lagging at all. I tried looking that mob up and couldn't find much on him, but I don't think it's a caster.

caused me a bit of discomfort lately too.

With that combination a 5 second stun might be possible, Paladin's and monks can stun a good bit. It's still unlikely, and you should of been off target before it died. The undead don't have a "corpse march"..they attack and react like they're full health until dead.

By the way I'm not trying to like incite a riot here or anything, I'm just trying to understand the mechanics of how FD works a little bit better. It's entirely possible I'm just misunderstanding what should've happened. Most of you guys have been playing a lot longer than I have, so I'm just asking someone to enlighten me here, because I've haven't really been able to get a definitive explanation out of anyone about this.

So last night I was messing around with a few friends in Destruction, the MPG trial, and the other Necro and I couldn't lose agro no matter how many times we FD'd, and afaik there are no AEs in there to knock you out of it.
I believe instances tie agro for auto-agro mobs that spawn in them to the last toon to zone in.

That's one reason why people in the endurance raid tend to chain die once they died the first time. Add will come and wack them after being rezzed when they havent done anything other than zone in.

Dev's have confirmed this behavior in vet board posts, and some guilds use it to mitigate some parts of events in certain instanced raids.

I am not, however, aware that they should be able to ignore FD. If you FD with a mob on agro, hott may not update for a full 6 seconds. I've seen that happen before.

We made sure the Pally zoned last, and neither myself nor the other Necro died during the encounter.

Were the mobs continuing to swing at you, while you were FD? If not, then it was the HoTT update lagging (as Xislaben pointed out), which is nothing new- it's had issues like that since GoD went live. I was playing "piss the warriors off" the other night in Demi-Plane, and after FD'ing the mobs wouldn't swing at me, yet I was still on target for a few seconds afterward. Altogether, the HoTT lingering isn't new, but I'll conceed that it's a little more common recently than it has been in the past.

The 'auto-aggro on last to zone in' is quite a bullshit mechanic, and I'm surprised the devs haven't done anything to address it yet, since dynamic zones are far from a new concept in this game. Guilds almost universally agree that this mechanic is rather lame, and will take steps to reduce the unnecessary attrition it's prone to create.

Easy enough proof. Dain 3 mission on the last wave. If anyone dies, expect the named mob to summon them automatically as soon as they get into range. We never figured out it was because of zoning though, we thought something was coded improperly and we were retaining aggro through death.

Thanks Xelgadis. It's good to know I didn't break FD! I checked my logs and it looks like nothing actually hit me while I was feigned (although at first I could've sworn they were~ I'll check with Vivee though just to make sure his say the same) so it's probably just the lag, then. I have to admit though, even knowing about it it's still quite the pain in the rear. Six seconds of guessing who has agro is a long time on some fights =(

Don't even need a big dot tick to get summoned in that event, the mechanics of it take care of that. And, if you lost the fallen to the ground message in the dot spam (which I don't see much dot spam in your screenshot).. that's why I run 3 chat windows as opposed to 2. ;)

I use audio triggers for that so I don't have to see it. Makes it much nicer. Now if only I could get a window with JUST my dot ticks while parsing the entire raid... I've found no combination of filters/windows that allows this.

I have my spells, foci, melee spam, dot damage, pet melee and spells filtered to a transparant window, with /chatfont 1. Guild/group/raid/channels/tells filtered to another, with /chatfont 2. Rest goes to a third window, also with /chatfont 2. The setup works for me, which is what matters to me, and the smaller font size allows me to cram more text into a single window, so it's harder to miss things.

Stupid question but, how do you change the font size for a specific chat window?

I think you can find it by /help chat. It's been a while since I screwed with font sizes though.

It could even be in the options menu now...but I'm not sure on that.

In the chat window type:

/chatfont #

where # is 1, 2, 3 etc...

I have been screaming my head off in my house about poor FD performance for a while now. Didn't think to come check here. Willful death my a**. I have also thought I was successful with FD (no message) to have the mobs continue to beat on me, or even pause first and then kill me faster then I can react to try to cast again. Doesn't matter if it's regular FD or DP.

Have you guys experienced getting the message "your enemies have forgotten about you" just to stand and have them race across zone to kill you? It's gotten to the point where I FD, get the message, stand and FD again, wait for 2+ minutes before I even consider moving (sometimes I get the message again, sometimes not). There are other times when I get agro, FD, don't get the message, and am fine next time I get up. I just can't handle the inconsistencies.

I can't speak for anyone else, but my experiences with FD issues are minimal enough I don't bother to take much note of it. Given how many times I FD, and how infrequently this problem affects me, from a statistical standpoint the FD anomaly is "within acceptable parameters".

Problem is- the anomaly is quite random, and prone to be blamed for subjective reasoning, etc. Given that (and knowing how the devs tend prioritize issues), it'll very likely take a mountain of evidence to get them to really look into the issue deep enough to find the root cause.

It could just be anti-(insert person's name here) coding. ;)

I had a coworker who, when we had down time, would play against me in some silly games like Zuma and Collapse. When I'd get a ridiculously high score because of a good run and he'd try to do the same and couldn't get there, he'd through his hands up in the air and say "this game cheats"...

To which I'd LMAOROTFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111111

But yeah, we've all had bad run-ins with the RNG and we've all experienced glitches, they happen but they don't happen that often. I've had bad days where I've screamed and cursed Smedley's name and all of SoE, I'm sure alot of us have, but I really don't think FD is broken, with the amount of FD'ing we do it's easy to forget that it's supposed to be failing 5% of the time and it was intended to be interrupted, apparently alot more often than it does since we know now that channeling was meant to suck as opposed to being okay.

The "Your enemies have forgotten you" mechanism assumes that when you FD you have no aggro on the mob. So, if you snared the mob before you FD'd, its a lie. Its a good pulling technique to do that, though. So, if you have a dot on the mob, you need to wait 2mins after the dot fades (I usually do 3) before your aggro is trully gone. Also, if you FD'd your pet, make sure and suspend the lil guy and bring him back out, otherwise his aggro isn't reset. The FD part of the pet is just plain broke for wiping aggro regardless of the time frame.

oddly from how aggro seems to work for me when pulling that does not seem to hold true.

I often play around with FD/snare splitting and i have many times gotten up the moment X dot wears off which comes after my de-aggro msg...

My forgotten messages act as zonewide agro reset every single time. There have been zero times when this has been anomalous without the following happening.

Only time it "fails" is when my snare ticks on a mob and damages it (new agro), if I am already in agro range (new agro) or if I un-FD my pet without summoning it (Broken agro).

Yeah, definitely need to wait until after dot's wear off or mobs path away even after you get the forgotten message. If you stand up with darkness still on the mob after the forgotten message, the aggro will be re-attributed to you. It's still your dot on the mob and if he thinks you're alive when it's still running then you're getting aggro again, not still.

However lets say that is happening with the 5 spawn skinwalkers in 69.1, the tick only affects the mob which the DoT is operating on, using the same standard rules as all fresh agro. The 5 do not reagro on you*.

It is like you are agroing a fresh mob. Yeah the DOT is yours but there were previously nothing on its agro list. Get up. You'll get a fresh agro message from mob, and comes after you.

* Unless your pet is retarded and zooms back off to the tower once the mob you work on dies, this is the primary cause of glorious trains when you forget to reset Jebobers' agro list (especially with casters)

Yeah, you gotta spam /pet back while you're FD otherwise he's taking off. When you're only splitting two though it's not so bad because he then goes and pulls for you =) But 5 is bad, /pet FD 4tW.

Wait 2 or 3 mins after dots fade? Wtf is that bullshit? Seriously, man ... as on the line as you are with most people about incompetance and just sheer stupidity, might be wise to just stay in your box if you ain't gonna think before you post shit.

Just like Horc said ... when you get your emote, you have zero agro at that moment. If you get a tick after that and you're standing, well then of course you get fresh agro .. fresh, new agro. Which starts your cycle over again.

All this assumes that you pull with snare anyway. Oughta practice pulling with debuffs and dispells. Takes a liitle practice, but goes faster alot of times. Chain agro is less of an issue without the damage once you figure it out. It's not as safe as snaring, sure; but it's a good option. Watch monks pull. Works the same way.

And .. why would anyone pull without their pet on hold to begin with? I'd hope y'all are referring to times when you just forget to do it beforehand, lol.

The problem there are often casters, when you tell Jobober to hold he still maintains an agro list, any that hits you even if he doesn't retaliate he will maintain it until the time you tell him to attack a mob.

After that mob is dead he goes Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee off to try and kill whatever. So yeah even with pet hold you still have to remember to tell him to back off on a pull like that.

Qedd
07-20-2006, 11:43 PM
Ahh, casters. Ok, yeah, in those cases it is annoying.

I have 'back off' in my 'hold' hotkey, myself.

/pet hold
/pause 1
/pet back off

Do still have to remember to hit it, but it saves having to mess with 2 separate ones.

Guess I'm just overly anal about keeping my pet in check. Too many memories of pets going wild and wiping raids back in the day, lol. I tend to make very good use of my hotkey, heh.

Rdarkwill
07-21-2006, 12:38 AM
I use this hotkey....

/pet hold
/pet follow
/pet as you were
/pet hold

I know it's kinda redundant... but it works for me. My question is.... Is 'back off' any better or worse than "as you were", or is it the same thing with 2 different commands?

Schaeffer
07-21-2006, 03:16 AM
Not sure, but I think /back off and /as you were are the same, it makes sense that way. I'm not a favorite of putting /back off in a hot key when pulling for a group. The reason being that I can /pet guard in camp then go pull. If it's a long pull i can sig the pet on the snared mob while the other's are still pathing back and then hit /hold and let the pet pull it the rest of the way to the group.

A good tank can have aggro before it totally gets in camp, and a not so good tank is what the pet rune and pet FD are for ;) With a second hotkey bank I have all my pet commands in there and mapped them to "ctrl #" so

ctrl 1 pet attack
ctrl 2 pet FD
ctrl 3 pet follow
ctrl 4 pet guard
ctrl 5 Army of the Dead
ctrl 6 suspend minion
ctrl 7 pet taunt
ctrl 8 Swarm of Decay
ctrl 9 pet hold
ctrl 0 pet health (to quickly tell me what buffs he has, but will be pet focus when i eventually get it)

I have pet attack and pet hold still in my regular hot key bank until I get 100% used to it. I force myself to use "ctrl #" for pet control but keep the old ones still there to not screw me over until I get totally out of the habit.

I've been working on leadership aa's and working on populating hotbank 4. Hotbank 3 [shift #] is bandolier plus some /group hotkeys and lifeburn. So far i've got mark npc 1 and 2, group hott and delegate ma. Looking to get mark npc 3 and delegate mark npc.

I needed to get that cause it urks me when people refuse to listen that we are not monks and you don't pull the closest one because it's not snared and I'll either have to kite the snared one or if it's a hard hitting sumoner I'm staying down and you're killing that one with lackluster DPS. Also if I'm pulling multiples for a druid or ranger to tag to let people know not to send thier pets in as soon as they tag the add. Send your pets on mine and let the poor druid build up some aggro for pete's sake.
