View Full Version : Why

Why do alot of people spend 50-200k twinking a character, or switching gear out from a wiz/nec/mage (or all/all) and then ask for advice for upgrades? It's pretty easy to see, especially if you have the ability to equip characters like that...that your necromancer IS MORE THEN FINE. Having 1200hps/2500mana at level 35 (for example) and asking for upgrades is pretty damn stupid. If your having problems hunting after that much of an "assist" go play a one dimensional character, and leave the people offering advice to characters that don't have level 65 recommended gear on a level 30. It's rediculous and happens almost every other day. As a quote from the "other" necro board...."use the damn search function."

Here here Jebasiz!

leave the people offering advice to characters that don't have level 65 recommended gear on a level 30.

I find your posts very enlightening and you appear very knowedgeable of the game. Considering I earned all my gear the hard way, (some gifts were rewards for deeds done), I compliment you on your astute assertation.

Seems to me to be people trying to brag by saying they need help with gear just to get people to look at their Magelo. Most of those people have better gear than I do at 60, and I have no problems with the way my gear effects my play. So either they are really stupid as Jeb says, or really arrogant.

There are certain situations that they may really need help. I know I played a druid for almost 2 and a half years before I thought about trying a Necro. I had a good amount of cash to spend and I just wanted to make sure I got the "Best bang for my buck".

Looking at others Magelo is the best way to get an idea for equipment, but maybe somebody can see a weakness in their gear and point it out. Also, somebody may be able to point out upgrades by a certain quest or something that the poster didnt know about.

I know you guys really helped me out tremendously just by looking at your sig. But sometimes we are just looking for an approval from the veteran Necros that we are doing things right :D

However I do agree that a 39 level character dressed in Ornate asking for advice is kinda goofy, but if it's bragging then give them their 15 minutes in the spotlight !

I like and respect Jeb AND agree with what he is saying about people posting looking for upgrades when all they are probably doing is trying to show off their stats for their level or trying to show off how much they twinked themsleves.

However: "use the damn search function" and similar type remarks are exactly why I wont return anymore to necro.eqclasses.com

Not from my being flamed but simply from being tired of most any question that got asked resulting in a Search Nazi screaming to use the search engine.

Now please dont misunderstand me. I know this isn't the situation you are describing here but I've really enjoyed this site and just dont want to see it start going in that direction.

Search engines are notoriously finicky any way.

for what my opinion is worth, I do agree with Dobie... what if they really only want to brag? no big deal really ;) I do believe we all are showing off a bit anyway, by walking around with our magelo profiles stuck to our tails <_<

The only peeps that could (maybe) be really upset about it are the moderators / owner of the forum, for some technical / managing / whatever reason ?

Im all with you Jeb. Its annoying as hell.
I couldnt have said it better. I use magelo as a tool to help me with buying new stuff so i can see my stat change before spending money but i already know noone gives a shit about my gear and its really no point in displaying it

I spent only 10k on my necro and i cant even remember my full hps sincce im always lower then 100% with aod. All i know is i can still kite 3-4 red mobs before i go lom and have to med and heal jebaber

<_<

Ahura, There is nothing that I'd like to see happen here less then it degrade to people screaming "use the search function" It was more of a joke for you and perse, while at the same time....displaying a high level of disdain for Supertwink_91 asking(the same questions as someone else 2 days ago) how they can get more then 4x the hp/mana then they need to level 2% faster. Heh..I guess I just find the whole thing rediculous.

It's cool...I understand the paranoia a bit. I also understand people wanting to get the "most bang for their buck" so-to-speak. It's just the same questions being asked every day, or every other day that are getting old. Heh

well i would like to throw my hat in the ring on this. i just posteed my necro, and yes i asked for advice. i think alot of poeple are unsure about there equipment. yes i have a fairly twinked necro, but i guess that is a reward of playing a monk for 3 years. i have earned all my cash and i enjoy making my char look and play nice. my posted my necro to see if anyone could help me gear it better. i come to the gurus of this class to get well informed. you guys should also take us lowies asking you for help as a compliment. yes we come to you, becuase you know. you have learn the hard way, and we want to also learn. if you all do get sick of the same questions you dont have to answer then, BUT as for me i'm here for answer not shoeing off my gear. i good friend of mine told me learn as much as you can so you can be a great asset to the game. so for the ones showing off, let them, but please also remember that some of us truely seek knowledge to play better. i hope that i do not start a flame with this. im just giving my 2 cents

and guys out there that do reply and offer help, THANK YOU SO MUCH, honestly

The thing is controller, your profiles, models and questions on which gear is more important then others are answered already. There is and always will be debate on the "perfect" gear for each slot, and which way to gear your class/race is greatly effected by playstyle and adaptation to your classes strengths, staying away from environments where you weakest all play a part in which gear you should attain. Also noone here has any idea what someone else has the ability to attain. The general guides, focus effects, hps/mana arguments are here...just read topics where a such and such level necro had the same questions you have, it's all opinion really, and those change for many of us when we log on the next time. I use to be a heavy component for Hitpoints > all. Well with close to 5400hps, I can safely say, focus effects, resists, mana pool and mana pool recovery are equally important. I don't think any one facet of someone's gear can be neglected, INT and STA WILL come with the rest of what I listed.

The information for beginning and intermediate gear for necromancers is here already, simply adapt it to how you play....Not ask how you want to upgrade legs that people giving advice are wearing at level 60, and you have at 25 and find insufficient (for example)

ok maybe i thoight about this the wrong way, i guess when i look at everyones stuff it is alot different from mine, i read and try to understand why poeple use what they use but i guess becuase i play a different sytle of play i have alot of questions on what poeple use. im still learning how to play a necro to it full ablity. another thing to is that when i made this char the gear i got was really cheap expect for a few things that i have picked up in the last month of heavy playing. so i just maybe let me ask you this jeb, would it be better for one to ask about a certain peice of equipment and how the effects would be better or worse. as said before i'm here to learn and also sometimes when i do do a search that i dont find what im looking for becuase im not sure what im looking for. but as you said the search function is a great thing. i have been on many a messageboards and you are right about the multi posts on the same thing. so i guess i will try to look for what i can and if i cant find it or understand it then i will post. jeb you have done your job, you have made one more person who all look harder and deeper for the facts before throwing a post. and also thanks for the help on the gear

I'm pretty much new to the whole Necro thing... Let me just ask... Any one feel like making me Supertwink_92 ?...

Sorry, had to comment on that... Jebasiz's posts always make me smile...

displaying a high level of disdain for Supertwink_91

Seriously though... My Plague Sorceror armor is pretty good for my level. I even like the color... Never understood twinking. I hardly ever have to sit and med like other caster. Just Leach and Dark Pact and go from one blue to the next... I Hardly ever die, and then only when I Empathy too much and draw every mob in the zone...

Some people simply dont know. My main was a monk for almost 3 years now. Switched to a necro, had plenty of cash on hand from my other characters and bought stuff in the bazaar that looked good and was reasonably priced. I'm 52 now and have no idea if my equipment is on par for my level or not. I've made it this far, I doubt changing out any one piece is going to make a huge difference now anyway, I'm used to playing with what I've got. Most decent equipment these days has recommended levels on them anyway, so in essence, your equipment does get better as you level.

Most of my gear was chosen for resists while maintaining max INT, which in turn is used for grouping and raiding....raiding mostly, which is the slowest form of gaining XP/AA in the game. Due to my career, I am not on much anymore and when I do logon, I tend to spend most of my time assisting my VR friends and Guildies in their efforts.

I keep in mind, whenever I think about swapping out one item for another, will the benefit of HP, Mana, Dex, etc....benefit me enough while I still maintain a high base resist level. Usually, any item I see now that could benefit me, I have neither the time nor the money to obtain, so I stick with what I have and make the best of it.

I also spend a lot of time tradeskilling and need more AAs so I can join the 1750 club....tradeskills really take a bite out of leveling.

I guess it depends on what type of server (red/blue) you play on as well when it comes to "what gear to get or what gear I need" ... and If someone has questions regardless of their intention of teh "look at me" syndrome, I guess I'd try to help at any rate heh. But thats coz Im nosey and have nothing better to do. :P Part of the thing that sucks about EQ is seeing peeps with uber shit that makes ya wanna sorta better your gear and be similar to them and wanting to better your gear and thnking TOO much on gear losing the the importance of lvling, and getting proper aa's. If u really want nice gear, lvl up 65 with some aa's and join a guild that farms VT and SSra and places like that, no amt of plats can replace no drop gear. I'll be honest I spent a considerable amt of time farming the proper gear I felt I wanted/needed to make my necro as good as he can get, but plats is not important to me as lvling. I ve made a few pieces that I m wearing now, and I get a sense of accomplisment by that. Maybe others do too. But take the advice of an experienced necro liek Jeb and others you may of learned from here, and lvl up w/o being too self conscious about your gear and what others may think of what you're wearing. After all its your toon, not theirs. If you're happy with it, it does not matter what someone else may think of it, If u think you need improvement in areas, improve it, but try not to dwell too much or think too hard on that, your time for good shit is still ahead of you if you play your cards right.

Ok, my main (and only!) character is a level 42 Necromancer. I solo'ed levels 1-20
in Steamfont...then CB....then came LDoN. I bought LDoN the day it came out (as I was lvl 19 at the time) and leveled up to lvl 38 (currently have the gravestone of renewal and about 40 MM points left.) My meager gear is listed below, and I have about 2k in the bank. I am thinking about saving for the Robe of Amorboaienasuhdfhuis ??? (has regen)...Now I solo against Giants if I can find them (good exp and bling-bling) or get a LDoN group...Here's the tricky part: I don't own Velious  or Kunark  !!!! What should I quest for/ save for? I appreciate any advice you may have.Doh! Forgot to save my mangelo...
I will link it soon...but it sucks, any advice is welcome!!!

Sorry Keystone, you dropped the F-Bomb one too many times in that post, I deleted it rather than having the whole topic moved to the inferno. Although I agree that if you have enough plat to twink a charcter then you should know what equipment is good to have and where to get it, we have to understand that we're trying to keep this forum all in good clean fun.
